Whats your favorite handgun caliber?

22 Long Rifle-I didn't learn to shoot a handgun until I practiced Bullseye with a 22.
Centerfire-38/357. Easy to reload
Semiauto-9MM or 45 ACP

I like the 41 magnum for hunting and hiking, its a reloader's dream caliber, for CCW I am a 40 fan, but own many other guns in various calibers.

Some things to think about.

.44 mag is ok if you have earprotection and do not mind lugging a lot of weight around. Also, because of the recoild, if you miss you will take a good amount of time to get back on target.

If max hitting power is the only criterion - I will take a bazooka or rpg or at least a shot gun. A .50 cal machine gun would be a good choice, too.

I frequently carry a .357 and like the amount of stopping power available. I like my 9mm because of the 17 shots.

Guess what I carry most? My kel-tec .380 in a wallet holster. It is light and hides in my pocket looking like a wallet.

big tossup

I set my self up for re-loading 4 calibers:

1) .44Mag
2) 10mm
3) .357
4) .45 ACP

In a semi-auto I prefer .45ACP, in a revolver the .44mag (loaded down 10% of so from factory). Both are a little easier to reload than the other two and I love to shoot them. I actually shoot the 10mm from a S&W 610 revolver and I like that also - it's a very unique gun

For a handgun, .38 Special is very hard to beat. I know what the chronograph says. But the Jello says different.

And platform matters. For concealed carry in a pocket, the snubnose revolver is king. The fact that you can launch a projectile that will penetrate 10-12 inches and end up at .6 inches diameter in calibrated ballistic gelatin and do so out of something as carryable as a 642 makes .38 Special #1 for me.

In order:
.45 ACP
10mm Auto
9mm Parabellum

Of course, this is only for centerfire pistols. Adding rimfire and rifle chamberings into the mix, my all-time favorite cartridge is .22LR

I like 45 and 9mm. I have used both calibers for years and have guns chambered for each. Ammo for both is available almost everywhere where I live now.

1.) 9mm
2.) 45 acp
3.) 357 sig
4.) 40

The first pistol I ever bought was a 9mm, and through practice have become very efficient with a 9mm, and I still carry my M&P 9c almost every day. I also shoot 357 sig naturally well, and 45 acp pretty well, hopefully with more practice with my new kimber and I will improve even more with 45. I don't shoot .40 that bad, but definitely shoot it the worse of these calibers.
