Actually, I don't consider Bush the lesser of two evils. I think he is doing a decent job. Yes, there are things I disagree with him on and would do differently. The only way I'd be 100% satisfied is if I were president.

+1
Can I be VP

Rimrock, I almost didn't bother with this, since its quite obvious that you are one of those people who will blame the person they dislike the most, rather than the people who were the most responsible. That tells me more than a little about the character of the person I am dealing with.

Now, 1st everyone, including bush supporters, and GW himself have accepted blame for the presidents role in all this, after all, he's at the top. Fine.

2nd, where are nagin and blanco's acceptance of blame? Do you think they weren't AT ALL RESPONSIBLE for the disaster that happened IN THEIR OWN YARD? Come on, wake up and smell the sewage. Blind hatred isn't good, neither is blind following. ;) The FACT is that Bush gave the ball to blanco 2 full days before it hit. She was indecisive, or stupid, and dropped the ball. Plain and simple. Black and white. The president CLEARED FEMA, and blanco refused the help until after the fact. (it doesn't really matter now if they underestimated the damage the storm would actually do or not, the fact is that it WAS UP TO BLANCO TO ORDER FEMA IN, AND SHE DID NOT)

3rd, Nagin also had advance warning to get the job done, and dropped the ball. 500 busses were SITTING THERE. Ready to get people out. Did he take the initiative and get those busses filled? No. He sat on his hands until his feet got wet, literally.

So if you are at all rational or logical, how can you not admit the fact that nagin and blanco were HUGELY at fault in this? After all, the president can only do so much. The constitution leaves the ball in states court. I think GW is a good president overall, though he does have his faults. I am willing to accept that he had blame in this, so WHY IS IT that pure bush haters REFUSE TO PLACE BLAME, even when it is SO CEARLY DESERVED, on anyone other than Bush? It just doesn't make any sense...

When I saw the title, I thought this was going to be another thread about the DEA agent who was the only one experienced enough to handle a handgun.

This thread is proof that some peoples technical skills would be better served with one of those wooden paddles with a rubber ball attached to it than a keyboard. I just read this whole thing, now I gotta go slam my head in a door. I did think the "exclusive " new video was enlightening. I guess the President wasn't just trying to off some black people after all. I guess I was wrong abot Mayor Wonka too, after all he did go swimming right after the storm, how could he bear any responsibility. bushsucksbushsucksbushsucks. Cmon guys I'm tryin:cool:

What a clustershuck we're heading into as a nation...*sighs*

hey rimrock, the whole situation is still just like highschool, where that smart kid with the glasses never gets elected, it's always the good looking guy/gal for class prez...Now I know why it's the popular vote

There's more than a little truth to that statement according to the book "Bush's Brain" although it's the author's contention the individual you describe is Karl Rove. He then set out to recruit someone cosmetically acceptable for the role of Pres.

IMHO this entire tragedy was more like "The Three Stooges meet Laurel and Hardy." Nagin and Blanco should have stepped down out of respect for humanity. I guess I never expected much from them in the first place. This huge disaster was custom made for a Fed response from the git go. Many, including James Lee Witt believe that FEMA would have been better positioned to react had they not been put under the umbrella of Homeland Security. After all the playing of "hide the winnie" the truth is this wasn't our finest hour! Those behind the wheel get praised or bashed based on the preception of their performance.

Don,
I actually found a few other posts which we were in agreement.:) In the final analysis we both love this country but it's in tough shape right now. Maybe we've all gotten fat and lazy in the past several years waiting for a handful of elected officials to "tuck us in at night" and tell us they'll take care of everything. Bad medicine regardless of our political base.
This country is unbeatable when we're united. Hopefully we're on our way back in that regard.:)

Rimrock

I'll give you a +1 on that. I really don't want to be a criminal, but fear it's inevitable with the way "our" elected officials are taking us. What they just don't seem to see is that for every dimwit who shoots up a school there are over a 1000 responsible good hearted hard working Joes who just enjoy guns. As to the rest of our situation, I see most all polititions the same. If their lips are moving they are lying. You just have to choose which side you want to be lied from, even the guy who seems like he cares won't give two squats about the people after he has reached his political goal.

AMEN! ....and it's a heckuva lot more than 1 in a 1000. It's not the gun community shooting up society...it's the ignorant non gun community.
I can't remember a bonafide shooting sports enthusiast ever hurting anyone intentionally unless he went brain dead and left his guns out for non gunners to go off! We have too much respect for guns!
That's why my friends and I make an effort to introduce shooting to as many new folks as possible. They always want to learn more and truly enjoy it!
We're all less likely to be afraid of something when we understand it!
The more gun education ....the better!

Remember bringin your rifle to school (I don't but I've heard such stories from the elders...)? What were the old classes in highschool...something sponsered by the nra back in the day? Yet as much as I would love to see such a thing, I can't see a bunch of suburbanite parents really wanting to greenlight such a class anymore, maybe out in the sticks though (ahhh, the sticks).

Damn... I guess that makes me an elder.

When I was in high school (town of 100,000+), a lot of guys drove pickups, the pickups had gun racks, and the gun racks were usually full. The pickups were driven to school that way on a daily basis - and nobody cared.

yes but the thought of that makes some people's butt's pucker, and we can't have that, however beneficial it may be...yeah, some kid's might accidentally get popped here and there but overall our country will be filled with better marksmen (and perhaps more responsible people) and therefore better prepared for war (or life). Going with that logic you'd think that uncle sam would threaten to pull funding unless they start teaching people to shoot (coincidentally what will happen if your high school refuses to allow recruiters to stand in the lobby or don't give over name/addresses of all students for recruitment purposes)

hmm...wonder what would better serve recruitment quota's, charismatic people talking about the perks of joining the military...or donating a bunch of old guns to schools for kids to play with (gotta be a better way to say that... )

Who was it, ted nugent? talking about how you should educate young kids early in school about gun safety...to take them in to a whitewashed room...all white. With a white desk with a white can of red paint on it...Give all the kids hearing protection then show them what happens when you shoot something with a gun. Blow up the can of red paint and explain to them that it's never ok to point a gun at someone, ever (explaing later the whole concept of 'they needed killin'). I believe that If i arranged such a demonstration for my child around the age of 10 or so that He'll be better for it...

North Dakota News

This text is from a county emergency manager out in the western part of
North Dakota after the recent snow storm.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here in the Northern Plains we just recovered from an historic event ---
may I even say a "weather event" of "biblical proportions" --- with an
historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that
broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of
motorists in
lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities, and
cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:

George Bush did not come....

FEMA did nothing....

No one howled for the government...

No one blamed the government

No one even uttered an expletive on TV...

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit

Our Mayor's did not blame Bush or anyone else

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else either

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5
snow
storm

Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.....

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House....

No one looted...

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something

Nobody expected the government to do anything either

No Larry King, No Bill O'Reilly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews, and No
Geraldo
Rivera

No Sean Penn, No Barbara Streisand,! No Hollywood types to be found

Nope, we just melted the snow for water

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a
penny

Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered
it to the snowbound families

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers

We fired up wood stoves

Broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns

We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die"

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a
mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes
for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this
early...we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 43
degrees North Latitude, 90% most of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me... I hope this gets passed on..
Maybe, SOME people will get the message, The world does not owe you a living!

Wow, you're totally right with that great comparison...So how many thousand people died or permanently lost their homes up there again?

Yeah That!

Remember bringin your rifle to school (I don't but I've heard such stories from the elders...)? What were the old classes in highschool...something sponsered by the nra back in the day?

Our high school had a skeet as an elective and a team of sorts (though they won by default) up until 2001.
Our community had a rifle range adjacent to the high school's property which has since within the past 8 years been closed. CA is not all feather dusters, wine, health spas and guys named Dorian. Most of the state's geography is rural with guns.

I did a presentation in my 10th grade speech class on how to field strip and clean an AR15, so I guess that makes me an elder too:eek: We also pretty much shut the school down for the first week of deer season and the first day of trout season. I almost always had a .22 or shotgun in the car for an impromptu hunt after school. MMMMMM.........them was the days. Funny thing is it was only a little over 20 years ago.

+1 JMAG,
Reminds me of growing up in Michigan and the blizzards in 76 and 79. We were snowbound for a week and the national guard came and helped dig us out. Nobody griped about it.....it wouldn't have done anygood and there was too much work to be done helping each other.

Who screwed up?

The Government under which we all live has its good and bad, it's overlooked and it's properly taken care of's...........For you dummies, there are three branches, I won't bother to name them. The presidential Branch, The Executive,
has Bush at the head gets the blame for every tiny glitch, mostly from the opposing political party, minorites that are never satisfied about anything, and the leftists and liberals. If I have stepped upon your oversensitive toes, I offer no apology..........There will be another Presidential election before long and you have the right to speak at the ballot box! Our Government has many flaws and Bush is not one of them, try Teddy Kennedy and his ilk.
