Howdy from Arkansas!

Hello Everybody! I'm a lifelong resident of NW Arkansas and a retired musician. I do a fair amount of shooting, mostly handguns, but some blackpowder too. I've visited here at The Firing Line Forum many times and figured it was time to pull the trigger so to speak and get on board, which I just finished doing. I'm also involved with several other forums from firearms and bluegrass music to Martin guitars, so I'm not a newby to the forum world. I'll do my level best to live up the the rules here. I play guitar, fiddle , piano, bass, and just about everything else that has strings on it that you don't have to blow through. If you happen to be visiting in NW Arkansas, be sure and let me know your gonna be around here! I'm always good for a cup of coffee and a guided tour of the area, especially the great Civil War sites we have around here.

Thanks for having me! I'm very glad to be a member here.

New member from Utah

I have been around guns my whole life as grew in the Idaho high country, they were just a normal tool we used to live like many others. It wasn't until I moved to SF CA for work that started to appreciate how lucky I was to have guns and healthy atitude towards them and not crazy paranoia of the bay area in CA. I am into the mode now I back in the real world, mountain west, Utah to learn more and own more. I look forward to learning from you. I like small caliber target shooting the most but I enjoy all it. I want broaden my knowledge base and get past some prejudices I have toward some types of guns like AR 15's. Thank you all in advance for your help. I own a number different guns I shoot regualrly but would not care to list them here.

Hello

I am new the forum, been lurking around for awhile and finally registered, looks like a great place with great people. I've been shooting since I was a kid and love it. I just recently got back into shooting after not owning any guns for the last 12 years, my wife was not a fan of guns when we got married due to a ex-husband who would terrorize her with them. But now she knows and trusts that I won't do that so here I am buying guns and shooting again. I am also starting to reload with a buddy of mine, not sure if I like that part yet. Anyhow just wanted to say hi.

Greetings, everyone.

Hmmm.... Well, what is there to say about me?

I was born and raised in Ohio. Both of my parents are from S.E. Kentucky, so I spent lots of time growing up and as a young adult there, roaming the hills, camping and shooting. Genealogists have me of Scots-Irish ancestry with a bit of Cherokee apparently thrown into the mix. My paternal ancestors seem to have come over from Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Ulster Ireland in the 1760's or so. According to the one genealogy I went over, I had direct ancestors fighting in the French and Indian War, the Revolution and the War of 1812. I had ancestors on both sides of the Civil War, with a few more heading South, it seems.

I'm married to my college sweetheart, and this year has seen twenty years since she inexplicably said "I Do." Let me tell you, I am glad she did. We have two daughters, both far more intelligent than I am. No, I'm not kidding about that one.

I shot on the club trap and skeet team in college, along with a couple of my fraternity brothers, and we did fairly well.

I'm a lawyer and I have spent all but just a few months since graduating employed as an assistant prosecutor. Well, aside from 2008, which I spent deployed.

While in college I joined the Army Reserve, where I was first trained as a medical lab specialist. I was activated for Desert Storm (On my wedding day), and spent the duration in San Antonio at Ft. Sam Houston waiting to deploy to S.W. Asia. On the bright side, Iraq did not take Texas while I was there. Some call it a coincidence. After my med lab unit got RIF'ed, I transferred to the support company of a Reserve Special Forces unit. I had high hopes until we were also victims of the RIF. After finishing up law school, I joined the National Guard, with the intention of becoming a JAG Officer. The opportunity to become a 91B, combat medic (now 68W), came up and I went that route and never really looked back. I'm proud to have earned the nickname "Doc." I have spent the vast majority of my time holding down that position in the Field Artillery. I deployed with the 1/134 FA as part of the 37th IBCT in 2008. Come 2011 I should have my "twenty" and will finally put away my boots.

I have numerous hobbies, including shooting (Life Member, Amateur Trapshooting Association), martial arts (Brown Belt in Kenpo), model building and playing guitar (I'm not very good at it). I am currently planning to giving cowboy action shooting a try, and we'll see how it goes from there.

I'm Dave. I've been on here for a little bit, but after some email troubles, I can finally post.

I just finished 8 years in the military, being stationed in Germany and Ft. Bliss, Texas, with three deployments to Iraq. I'm still in El Paso but I will shortly be moving back to St. Louis, MO sometime in December.

My MOS was 11B (Infantryman), so I am not new to shooting. I am the proud owner of an LaRue Tactical/CMMG AR, a Winchester Model 70 in .223, which I am using to learn long-distance shooting, and a 12g Mossberg 500 SP, with my eyes on a Springfield XD in 9mm later on down the road. I shoot every Saturday, nothing beats a day at the range.

New member here....New York

Hi,

My name is Sean and I am from New York. My username is H1N1 (swine flu - :)).

I am not sure exactly how to post new threads but I would like to. I am getting some real slack here in New York when trying to purchase a firearm. I think I am almost ready to up and move down with the rest of my family in North Carolina where they still have the right to own firearms.

Sean

Hi guys, first post for me here. I belong to a couple of other forums, as many of you do, so you might recognize me by my user name.

This looks like a great forum for just about anything under the sun that is related to shooting.

Hello from snowy Northeast Ohio! :)

Good morning. While I have lurked on TFL for some time, especially when I searched for topics on Google that pointed me here, I never registered until yesterday. I came across a thread in the semi auto handgun section about the general difficulty in separating the receiver from the grip frame of a Ruger MkIII 22/45. So I registered and posted my experience that may make the task a little bit easier.

I have been shooting as a young kid but it was not until I was 18 that I purchased a Winchester 1300 to shoot clay targets from a Hoppe's spring loaded trap as well as a Marlin model 60 for general plinking and to learn accurate rifle firing. However, those guns sat idle until April of this year when I found out there was a bona fide trap range around 20 minutes from my house. I also purchased my first handgun, a Ruger P90, back in May. Needless to say, while the recoil of the 45acp is minor, it was an eye-opening experience shooting a handgun with no real experience (aside from general plinking) thinking one could be as accurate as a long gun. :) So I recently purchased a 22/45 MkIII and a Ruger Super Redhawk with part of my severance pay. I also purchased a range membership to a local range to work on my handgun accuracy as well as having something to do while laid off. And I am beginning to see improvements after shooting about 200 rounds twice a week through the MkIII.

So I am here to enjoy the wealth of information available here. Hopefully, I will not embarrass myself too much being a handgun noob! :D But we all have to learn to walk before we can run.

Greetings, Right Wing Extremists and others....

JUst kidding...THe name is GoOfY-FoOt, but you can call me Bill.
Oh wait, scratch that....reverse it...

New to this site, but I've been a gun nut for decades. There's just something about carrying a tec-9 under your jacket that tickles the heck out of me...

Call it a sense of security, or just call me a gun nut, I don't care. I truly believe in what our Founding Fathers were trying to do. It's a shame that greed and atheism took over.

I look forward to defending our Constitution and exploring our hobby, together.

Bill

Hello everyone,
I was doing a little research online and found a post from this forum that was very helpful to me so I thought I would check out this site a little more.

I manufacture a handgun safe and sell them online. The idea came from wanting fast access to my gun and the safe being more secure than what I was able to find. While my sons were taught gun safety and I really didn't have a concern for an accident happening I was given a wake up call from one of their friends that told me "I know where your gun is". I was shocked that one of my kids showed it to his friend and replayed in my mind what could have happened. Apparently no one handled it, but what if the boy reached in the drawer and grabbed it? It was loaded! Finally a couple years ago was able to make it a reality.

I love to shoot and lately wish I had a little more time to do so. Have shot skeet, sporting clays, and some handgun competitions in the past as well as enjoying a good day plinking with the .22's.
