We get a lot of Hispanics around here, most of them just work and pay their bills like anyone else but some do insist on causing trouble. When the influx first started I was as indignant as any of you about what was happening but I've changed a bit over the years.
Maybe it's because of the "legal" (passport, visa and everything) guy who dated a local girl until she became pregnant, then went home, or maybe it's because of the "illegal" one who picked her up and took care of her and her daughter with the money he earns as a night janitor.
It could also be because of the three "illegals" I know of who have been arrested, convicted and sent to prison for crimes they didn't commit.
Don't start! I'm perfectly aware that no prisoner is guilty in his own mind and if these guys had told me they were innocent I'd be a bit suspicious, but in all three cases I know they were railroaded by our system of "justice." That the police and prosecutors failed to find the witnesses I found can only be due to criminal ineptitude or even more criminal bias.
Perhaps my views have changed because of the blond welfare recipient down the street that never seems to have time or money to clean up her yard but always has a guy around, throwing beer bottles in it. On each side of her is a house with "illegals" living in it. They mow the grass, paint the window frames and dress their kids properly.
Of course 'Welfare Mom' can't be deported (more's the pity) so she doesn't give a damn about anything but her crack (define that as you will) while her neighbors know what they have to lose if they screw up.
It's been said here and on other boards many times that freedom isn't free and that it has to be earned by each succeeding generation or it will be lost to all of them. These people are fighting for their freedom; freedom from hunger, from injustice and from discrimination. So far, they're doing okay on the "hunger" part.
I have here on my desk a copy of "The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America." It says that "all men are created equal," not all men who were born in the united States but ALL men. It further states that they have certain "unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
In closing, let me say that my ancestors came here from Wales in the late 1600's. According to the residents of the area at that time they too were "illegals." Unless some of you can show me a visa issued by a native American indian tribe of the time, your ancestors were no better than mine and you're just a later generation of their original "anchor babies".
