Illegal Aliens rallying across US today

Don't know what time in your area, but Lou Dobbs has a special tonight from Hazelton Penn. That is one of the recent towns that has crafted laws to stop illegals from renting and working in their area. Hazelton has found that their crime rate and welfare costs have go through the roof in the past three years. I guess the idea that illegals bring economic benefits is lost on Hazelton. Welcome to the real world. Now the true cost of illegal labor is surfacing.

Being a good humanitarian is really great, but having four or five families move in next door (in one hose) to you in a family neighborhood can take the edge off your high ideals. But if you can find a place to park your own car on the street, or tune out the noise, or put up with the property value loss, then it's not a bad deal.

"they did not come here looking to take "your" wealth. they came here in the hopes that this was indeed the land of the free they have herd about. They came here with the idea that they can make a better life for them selves and their families." MDman.

Interestingly they have had a long time to deal with their internal problem there in Mexico and adjacent countries as well. All they have done is succeed in fouling themselves up. Now they wish to spread their concepts and culture here, which inevitably will foul us up, in the US. Doing the same thing more than once, then expecting a different outcome is a sure sign of insanity.

Sadly, America has asked for this and they are going to get what they deserve for asking. Socialistic programs and the lack of personal responsibility has led us here. Ignorance and apathy is going to speed us along and in the end it is our just desert.

"they did not come here looking to take "your" wealth".

What they are looking to do is not the issue. What the result is they are costing many times what they contribute.....yes they are taking our wealth.

I have been debating this issue for more than a year on other forums. I have seen a change on how most of the illegal supporters are presenting their arguments. Over a year ago OBL (open border lobby) was saying things like cheap labor, Americans won't do the jobs, good for the economy, etc. Now they have been beat down by the real facts of illegal cost to this country. So now they tend to make more emotional arguments. These people are human, they just want to work, they have kids, etc. Nothing wrong with humanitarian feelings, but we have to pay bills...that's just the real world. It would be OK if we could afford to feed, give free medical aid & housing to all people in this world. We can't. Having the USA founder under the burden of cost for illegals will not help...then we will all (in the USA) lose.

Also, we sometimes forget the security issues of having millions of unknown illegals in our country.

Back to what Harry Callahan said several pages ago. The Mexicans DID have their 1776, in 1810, I believe. They have had 200 years of freedom from colonial oppression but have failed miserably to do anything constructive with it. They blame the evil gringos, the Yanquis for all their woes. You'd think that living next door to the world's greatest democracy might have lit a few fires in their butts by now to take charge of their destiny but apparently there is some cultural bias against freedom, prosperity and peaceful transfer of power by the government.

BMoore, I agree. I worked in Mexico for an American company for years. I think we are suffering because they have not changed their corrupt government. The problem is there are enough in Mexico that are well off and don't want to stir the pot. So far, the safety valve for the lower educated & income is to come to the US illegally and over burden our system. The Mexican government fears us shutting the border. Then the pressure would build and they would have a big problem. About every Mexican knows in his heart that their system is completely corrupt, and many are ashamed. But not enough to force changes. One of the shames is that they (me too) are afraid of their own federal police & Army. Getting stopped out on the highway by Mexican police can be real fearful. Happened to me....no fun.

Anyway, now we have to act here to protect ourselves. This is the latest one State is doing.

***Lou Dobbs had a good show on our leaky borders tonight on CNN, and that point was made. American businesses are profiting from the cheap labor, so our government isn't really trying to stop illegal immigrants from Mexico.

One economist on Dobbs show said that the biggest problem with giving amnesty to the millions of illegal immigrants already here is that then they would all have to be put into the social security system, and as everyone knows, that is already overburdened. He also said that most illegal workers make fairly low wages and have families, and that they cost the country far more in services than they contribute by their labor (a very unpopular thing to say in a PC society.)

Before anyone jumps on me for being anti-immigration, let me say I'm only anti-illegal immigration. I've personal experience with what it takes for a foreigner to reside legally in America, and don't see why Mexicans (and Cubans) should get a free pass when everyone else in the world who wants to live in the US has to go through lengthy bureaucratic paperwork and extensive vetting before they can get a green card, much less citizenship!

Someone said earlier

"I say give the immigration issue a rest....least of my problems. I suggest we focus on the real and pressing issues facing our nation...terrorism, drugs, outsourcing of jobs, taxes, inner city decay and crime, homelessness, government and corporate corruption, AIDs, public "education" "

Most of those issues do relate to our lack of enforcement of border security, hence illegal immigration. (Please come here legally, Legal immigrants come here, work hard, stress education to thier kids, and kick the butt of complacent long term Americans, they work harder and have real stake in the American dream)

Terrorism- can you say for certian that only people looking for work are coming across the border, I sure as heck can't, could there be terrorists-maybe

Drugs- most definitly coming across our pourous borders

Taxes- well I think that has been discussed here and in other threads enough

Inner City decay and crime- well our inner cities sure don't need another group coming in and being at the lowest level, because inadvently the lowest economic class commits more crime, lives in the cheapest housing.

Goverment and Corporate Corruption- Enforce all the laws, including Immigration, Safe Work Enviroment, Fair wage and all the rest, and to do some of this you have to have documented and legal workers.

AIDS and Public Education- I lump these two together because the higher the education level the less likely for STD and other associated social ills, and illegal aliens are highly unlikely to particapte fully in the education system.

If 20 million were given Amnesty the number will actually be (estimated)
at 60 million + because they will bring extended families. What will that
impact be to our services.

I will draw a parallel. It is easy to think when you are on top of the world economically that things will last forever. But you can break any system. I am retired from a large company that I think all here would instantly recognize their name. This company was living high from the late 30's to the early 70's. I came to work in the mid 60's. In those days they spent money like water. Nothing too good for the employees. Complete (no cost) medical coverage, first class travel, etc. Then they made a series of bad business decisions. Now they have been sold. The many plants across the USA and other parts of the world sold. None of the USA plants are even operating. So, you can break a company or a country. There is nothing stopping the USA from becoming a third world country...just good or bad decisions.

I think amnesty is one of those bad decisions.

People say that immigrants burden social services while not paying taxes. Actually, undocumented immigrants are ineligible for welfare, food stamps and Medicaid; and although they do use hospital emergency rooms and schools, they also pay sales taxes and payroll taxes, and one in three pays income tax. The net result is that immigrants cost the average native U.S. household an extra $200 in taxes each year, according to a study of 1996 data. Once you take into account the boost to pretax incomes caused by immigrants' contribution to growth, the total effect of undocumented workers on native-born Americans is roughly zero, according to Gordon Hanson of the University of California at San Diego.

***How do they pay payroll taxes and income tax without social security numbers? Or do they just use fake SS numbers? I take it you fully approve of this, despite the fact that identity theft (using someone else's SS number) is a major problem in the US.

I'm amazed that anyone on this forum supports mass illegal and hence unvetted immigration. Not only because we can hardly absorb millions of additional people every year, but for security purposes. Are you also for getting rid of passport inspection at the nation's airports? After all, some people flying in may not have visas or even passports, and we wouldn't want to keep anyone out--that would be discrimination!

well, using a fake number is not the same as using a stolen number. the taxes are still taken out and sent to Uncle Sam, they just don't get to file for a refund

Exactly Redworm...those collected taxes which typicaly an undocumented does not file for a refund has been estimated by some to be between 4 to 10 billion dollars a year...a boondoggle for the US Treasury coffers...more money to pay for more wars.

This whole thing is stupid. There is absolutely no way the framers EVER intended that people who break the law be able to protest or have the right to assemble or anything of the kind. Because some judges have granted due process protection to these people doesn't mean that 1) this is corect and 2) everything else under the bill of rights is automatically theirs as well. I would hope everyone here would agree that illegals have no 2nd amendment rights, so to say that they have any 1st amendment rights is ridiculous and logically indefensible.

As far as the costs, I don't think there is ANY definitive evidence that suggests whether deporting all of these people would hurt or help us financially.

What I do find shameful is that the dollar value is even being discussed. There was a time when people did the right thing regardless of how much it cost or how unpopular it was.

I don't know about you, but I'd gladly pay twice as much for that head of lettuce to know that our laws were being respected, our emergency rooms weren't being filled, and the police and first responders werent being overextended by having to deal with the crimes and incidents cause by illegal aliens.

Well the cost to my household is only $200. Any one else want thier $200 dollars back. Please raise your hand.

Of course I would like my money back from corporate bail out and mismangement by the Federal Goverment. Again my money being wasted.

And I stress, it is MY money.

What is this all about? It isn't mentioned anywhere that NAFTA allows the free trade of people. Trade refers to trading products not people. It would be nice if the US could trade people. It could trade all the bums who live off welfare for doctors, scientists, and engineers. We could trade Hillary Clinton as well. :)

NAFTA
North American Free Trade agreement.
