Illegal Aliens rallying across US today

This has to be one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever seen. Do you know where drugs come from? From Mexico. Did you know that while the border remains as open as it is, that smugglers will smuggle just about anything in this country if the price is right(firearms, explosives, etc). Did you know that having lots of "undocumented" people coming into a country increases its risk of having an outbreak from disease? That is why the US prefers to control who comes in and gives them a thorough check before letting them in. It sounds to me that these are problems we will have to worry about unless we got our act together.

The US performs medical and background checks on those that come in legally. This eliminates the risk of an epidemic occuring and dramatically reduces the risk that one of these immigrants will become criminals. My wife went through the entire process. It truly pisses me off that some think they can get a free pass. Now that the US proposed a potential reform which involved illegals paying fees for the chance to become legal, they are whining about it. Those that did the process legally had to pay fees and waited in line. Those who broke the law should have to pay more for their "express" service. My brother-in-law just attained legal resident status and it costed him a few years of waiting and thousands of dollars. Illegals want to become legal and pay much much less than those who did the process legally. That is BS.

"I say give the immigration issue a rest....least of my problems. I suggest we focus on the real and pressing issues facing our nation...terrorism, drugs, outsourcing of jobs, taxes, inner city decay and crime, homelessness, government and corporate corruption, AIDs, public "education" "

People say that immigrants burden social services while not paying taxes. Actually, undocumented immigrants are ineligible for welfare, food stamps and Medicaid; and although they do use hospital emergency rooms and schools, they also pay sales taxes and payroll taxes, and one in three pays income tax. The net result is that immigrants cost the average native U.S. household an extra $200 in taxes each year, according to a study of 1996 data. Once you take into account the boost to pretax incomes caused by immigrants' contribution to growth, the total effect of undocumented workers on native-born Americans is roughly zero, according to Gordon Hanson of the University of California at San Diego.

The High Cost of Cheap Labor
Illegal Immigration and the Federal Budget

Executive Summary

This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget. Most previous studies have focused on the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion.

Among the findings:

Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.

Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).

With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.

On average, the costs that illegal households impose on federal coffers are less than half that of other households, but their tax payments are only one-fourth that of other households.

Many of the costs associated with illegals are due to their American-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth. Thus, greater efforts at barring illegals from federal programs will not reduce costs because their citizen children can continue to access them.

If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion.

Costs increase dramatically because unskilled immigrants with legal status -- what most illegal aliens would become -- can access government programs, but still tend to make very modest tax payments.

Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.

The fact that legal immigrants with few years of schooling are a large fiscal drain does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a net drain -- many legal immigrants are highly skilled.

The vast majority of illegals hold jobs. Thus the fiscal deficit they create for the federal government is not the result of an unwillingness to work.

The results of this study are consistent with a 1997 study by the National Research Council, which also found that immigrants' education level is a key determinant of their fiscal impact.

What about the 10 billion dollars they contribute to the treasury

What, I heard it was 55 trillion. When you invent numbers why limit yourself.:D

Sorry, I guess you meant deficit...now you are bulleye.

The report was stating that after everything was accounted for, currently illegals are costing this country $10 billion a year. Who knows what they contribue to the treasury but the bottom line is they are not good for this country nor the economy. The only illegals who voluntarily pay taxes(through forged documents) only do so to claim dependents from other countries and make huge refunds. This makes them not only guilty of stealing from this country, but felons due to tax fraud. They are violating many laws in this country.

I don't know about you but I would spend a lot of time in jail if I got convicted of tax fraud. This isn't fair. Then you have the sanctuary cities where people get a free ride on criminal convictions due to their illegal status. Some cities are actually letting criminals go simply because they don't want to have to tell ICE that they have detained an illegal alien. Does this sound fair to you? Look at what happened in Virginia. The guy was busted several times for drunk driving then killed 2 teenagers while driving drunk. What was this guy still doing around? The situation is deteriorating quite rapidly and something must be done. The nay-sayers simply haven't seen the problem or are not intelligent enough to comprehend the entire impact that this issue is having on this country's infrastusture.

So actually you are paying their taxes for them. You are paying for dependents that don't even live in this country for people who came to this country illegally. The IRS knows that illegal immigrants are claiming taxes. They even know where they live and work. They even began issuing ITIN#s in 1996 to allow people without SS#s to claim taxes. The FBI only gets involved when an illegal is actually using a legal citizen's identity.

What about the 10 billion dollars they contibute to the treasury...has anybody offered a solution as to what to do with that money?

10 Bil, that would build a heck of a good fence. Maybe on the North and Southern borders, not to mention it might make a good dent on Port security as well.

Who was it that said "good fences make good neighbors"?

Now Rotorhead, aren't you just a little sorry you made that statement...just a little?:D

illegals paying taxes? sales tax maybe when they buy a hamburger, but not the income tax that the rest of us are robbed of (and redistributed to them via health care, social services, public education, etc.)

A lot of illegals work under fake or fictitious SSNs, which means that their employers withhold their income taxes...which go to the big tax pot.

Don't forget property tax. Whether they rent or own, at some point that money's getting collected as well.

And, as Marko Kloos pointed out, a large number that work under assumed SSN's are paying income tax, social security tax, etc.

EDIT: Note that, unless I'm mistaken, social security and medicare taxes are pulled out regardless of exemptions claimed. Can anybody verify this?

Again I have to ask the question why are we arguing about dollars when there is a right thing to do? What have we come to when we aren't willing to pay an extra dollar for a head of lettuce or a hamburger if it means enforcing the law.

This if course assumes that the net effect of getting rid of illegals would be a cost and not a benefit. Either way the state of our country is pathetic.

This is what is happening. The pro-illegal groups are having more and more problems selling the myth that they (illegals) add to the economy...not detract. If you want easy proof just look at what is happening. Many cities and now some States are making laws restricting illegals. Simple straight forward reason. They are finding having high populations of illegals cost much more than the benefit of their so called low labor. A few free visits to the hospital can more than offset any benefit in low salary. Not to mention the crime increase. The facts are there by definition. Cities like Escondido CA, or Hazelton Penn., or Oklahoma City (Also the State) would not be in the process of limiting illegals if they were a good thing. It is the results that is really winning the argument for anti-illegal supporters. It cost cities more to have illegals than not having illegals....just the facts. This is why the pro illegal crowd is in such a sweat.

The myth that illegals add to the economy...busted!
