Gun show carry ban??? Support or not?

Do you support the prohibition on loaded firearms inside an organized gun show? Why?

I was taught that it is good form to unload before going into a gun shop, for all the same reasons that it is required at gun shows.

No it's not. It's like trying to prevent accidents by kicking out people who ski dangerously.
It is dealing with avoidable tragedy after the fact when a simple rule can prevent it from happening.

One of the biggest problems with gun rights, and the reason I feel they will some day disappear, is the inability for some gun owners to realize that everything is not an affront to their person freedom. The fact that you cannot carry a loaded weapon into a private event where adequate security is being provided in in no way in opposition to the ideals of the founders. It was common practice for non-officers to surrender firearms in public hearing, activities, etc. The inability to yield even an inch when it makes sense to do so, instead staying firmly rooted to their soapbox for reasons that do not even exist, will be the death of the movement because it will turn the rational minds against us.

having to park 4 blocks away due to a school zone when dropping my kid off?

Not in SC. With a CWP, you can now drop your kids off with your gun in the vehicle.

It's Peetza Killa, BTW. As in Pizza Killer, not Pete the Killer.

Shouldn't your last line be not Pete's a Killer, instead of not Pete the Killer. :D Just a thought.

As to the thread, Those of us who have been through the background checks do not suddenly act differently just because we go to a gun show. The holstered gun stays holstered, if we handle a gun, it is because we picked it up from a vendor's table, which should be unloaded (typically with a cable tie through it). I carry into places that are posted if the signs posted are not conforming to laws pertaining to them. If it is a legal sign, then I choose not to patronize that facility.

I am fine with the restrictions due to the number of people and the amount of weapon handling going on. I am 6'7" tall and I can't tell you how many times I have looked down a barrel or pushed one aside.

The Indy 1500 Gun & knife Show has Police oficers at the door and require an UNLOADED firearm. They also put a removable sticker to the firearm.
I am all for unloaded weapons at a gun show.

First,

the reason I feel they will some day disappear,...

is because we give them away, one tiny piece at a time. Rights don't just "vanish", all gone, all of a sudden. They dwindle away. "We don't want your guns, it's just that it makes sense not to carry (insert favorite place). That's all, no more." "Well, Ok, I guess..." and then "It made sense in (place), don't you see that it makes sense when (XYZ)? If you stand so firm on your convictions it will just turn people away.... we don't want your guns, just this one thing, because it makes so much sense, can't you see that...."

Favorite argument of the radicals.

Secondarily, I'm not even particularly arguing about the "rights", I'm mainly arguing on necessity and logic. The two examples of the cars and skiing make my point perfectly well, just as you feel they make yours. Pretty well anyone following the discussion has made up their minds by now. I really have nothing left to say. Our arguments are clear and concise.

My thanks for yet another civil debate.:)

many people are openly handling many guns including their own carry guns.

My point is, that there is no need to handle a carry gun. You wouldn't do it anywhere else and a gunshow should be no different.

Eggzackly!

The extremely small chance of an accidental discharge at a gun show is still too dangerous to our rights, what with the anti-s out there looking for any propaganda to use against us. Remember, some of the people bringing firearms into a show are there to sell a piece that they know nothing about - ever if it is loaded or not.

My rights should not hinge upon stupid people.
But they do...and to pretend otherwise is both naive and irresponsible.

All it takes is a swing in public opinion and you can kiss CC good-bye in as short as a few years.

That is rhetoric bologna. No one has ever "given away" anything. They have been forced to make concessions due to public will turning against the movement. That public will often comes from the perception that gun owners are fanatics who will not listen to reason.

So you are of the opinion that one or two idiot's carelessness should dictate how the rest of the population is be constrained from then on?

I hope you are not confusing "recognizing" with "condoning."

One idiot kills a child at a gunshow with his CCW and presto...a new law against all private guns/gun sales inside gunshows...or maybe even a ban on gunshows all together.

Doesnt make it any less wrong. I will state my opinion again: my rights should not hinge upon an idiot's stupidity and carelessness.

Am I to be deprived of my right to life when I enter a gun show where alongside of law abiding citizens there are also gang members and criminals lurking about?

I am not a slave to Political correctness and public opinion...... Anyone who is a slave to what others think has lost his way.

Here's Why

I feel perfectly safe at the Gun Show with an empty chamber and mag out because of the security provided. What I have issue with is the fact I have to carry unloaded to the car with my new purchase in a bag and no ammo on my person. If we were allowed to re load our mags and chambers after exiting the show in a protected area, that would be perfection.
