Hey, I see Hecate is over here. Good!
As a woman with rheumatoid arthritis that is encroaching more each year, I shoot my 1911's when I can; and when I can't I have a couple of revolvers that have great triggers and minimal recoil with the right rounds. My prize, though, is an Ed Brown Custom 1911 that my wonderful husband got me for Valentine's Day this year. I thought initially I might have made a grievous mistake, because at first the slide was horrible to rack and I had visions of having just gotten a gun that I was going to have to make a safe queen
. Thankfully, after some breaking in, it is pretty easy to rack most days. In truth, I can rack a 1911's slide more easily than a Bersa's on bad days; the bigger the slide, the easier to get the grip.
But for those bad days: my brand new SP101 in .327 Federal magnum. I can plink all day long with .32 S&W's at the range, even DA, even on a bad day. And the .327's, while LOUD, have less recoil than even a plain old .38 spl out of my m37 snubbie (which has pretty much become Archerandshooter's truck gun most of the time). The other is a 66-3 which is a great ranch gun, but too big and bulky to carry concealed (at least except for purse carry, where it's too HEAVY to carry concealed).
There will probably come a day when those beloved 1911's of mine will only get shot at the range, and then only if I have someone to help if need be. I try not to think about that. But that SP 101 is a wonderful alternative for someone with RA, and I'd certainly recommend checking them out.
