Which handgun does your wife prefer?

Years ago on a camping trip, I talked my wife into firing my Ruger Single Six .22 at a few beer cans I strategically set up on the edge of a creek about six feet away from where we were standing. (I had strategically emptied these cans the night before). We had a talk about safety, I demonstrated good technique and shot a can CM. I handed her the Single Six. She pulled the trigger, screamed, and dropped the poor Ruger into the creek bed. It never crossed my mind that the "safety talk" should have included screaming or dropping contengencies.

Sometimes husbands and wives are just into different things. One time, I went to the ballet with her. I felt like screaming and dropping into a creek bed after an hour or so of that!

I still go camping. My wife will come along as long that trip involves reservations at the Sheraton, or possibly the Marriot.

My wife likes her 1911 Springfield Full Railed TRP Operator 45 acp.
She says the weight helps on the perception of recoil.

My wife likes a S&W mod. 36. <sigh>

I bought it at a sheriff's deputy's yard sale years ago. We saw it there on the table and I suggested, "That would be a good gun for you, dear."

She said, "Don't give me that. If you want to buy it, just buy it."

That weekend we took it out to try it out. I fired a cylinder full. My son fired a cylinder full. My wife fired a cylinder full, said, "I like it; thanks dear" and it stuck it in her purse. It's been her gun ever since.

Hey, I see Hecate is over here. Good!

As a woman with rheumatoid arthritis that is encroaching more each year, I shoot my 1911's when I can; and when I can't I have a couple of revolvers that have great triggers and minimal recoil with the right rounds. My prize, though, is an Ed Brown Custom 1911 that my wonderful husband got me for Valentine's Day this year. I thought initially I might have made a grievous mistake, because at first the slide was horrible to rack and I had visions of having just gotten a gun that I was going to have to make a safe queen . Thankfully, after some breaking in, it is pretty easy to rack most days. In truth, I can rack a 1911's slide more easily than a Bersa's on bad days; the bigger the slide, the easier to get the grip.

But for those bad days: my brand new SP101 in .327 Federal magnum. I can plink all day long with .32 S&W's at the range, even DA, even on a bad day. And the .327's, while LOUD, have less recoil than even a plain old .38 spl out of my m37 snubbie (which has pretty much become Archerandshooter's truck gun most of the time). The other is a 66-3 which is a great ranch gun, but too big and bulky to carry concealed (at least except for purse carry, where it's too HEAVY to carry concealed).

There will probably come a day when those beloved 1911's of mine will only get shot at the range, and then only if I have someone to help if need be. I try not to think about that. But that SP 101 is a wonderful alternative for someone with RA, and I'd certainly recommend checking them out.

I don't have a wife or a girlfriend - or a daughter, for that matter.

Having shot a metric boatload of all kindsa handguns in 9 years of serious handgun addiction, my personal preference remains my baby Glock 26.

Seeing as how my wife is only 4'10" and 120lbs. she's not too keen on the hand cannons. Her favorite pistol at the range is a Browning Buckmark Camper and for the nightstand it's a Taurus PT111 Millennium Pro. She did see a Pink Lady recently and told me when I get back from Iraq she wants one. I guess I can't argue with that seeing as how she recently bought me a Glock G35 just because.

My wife loves her Smith&Wesson Model 66 snubby with 38+P in it. Also has a smaller Taurus 5-shot 38. For target practice she likes the Ruger MKII 5.5" bull barrel. She will shoot my other guns but likes hers better.

S&W 686

My wife loves her 686 with teh 2.5" barrel. Shoots it like a laser. Won't let anyone tinker with or change any part of it.

Well, it used to be mine.......

I bought 2 used S&W revolvers, one for my wife and one (more) for me. I thought she would like the nickel plate 2" Chief Special I bought for her, but she fired the 4" Model 15 Combat Masterpiece and I never got it back, although I get to clean it at times.

Fortunately, I really like the old nickel Chief, and it's one of my prized handguns.

She also likes my Colt 1917 .45 ACP revolver.

I feel better

I'm glad to see that taking over your husband's guns is not limited to only me. He let me borrow his 686 4" so I could take a basic handgun class last fall and i kept it. Told him he gave it to me for christmas he just didn't remember:)

I love that gun and use it for competition.
My carry gun is a 442.
My 12 yo daughter prefers to shoot the M&P .38, but has a hard time with the DA. We're looking for a .22 for her.

My wife has staked her claim to my Sig GSR (1911) whilst at the range, but carries her Walther PPS and loves it.

Colt D.S. with standard pressure 158g LSWC.
She'll try our new/old Colt Police Positive Special w/4" bbl. tomorrow.
The D frame fits her small hands very well. Although she dealt with the recoil of S&W 637 and 642 airweights, she didn't like it.
K frames are too big for her hands; ditto for Ruger Service Six. SP-101s fit her well, too.
