Wheelguns Are For "Oldtimers"??

Revolvers:
H&R M925
Ruger GP-100
Ruger Police Service Six
S&W M1917
S&W M10
Colt 357
Colt Official Police
Colt Police Positive Special
Colt Detective Special
Colt Cobra

Autopistol:
Tokorov 7.62x25

My collection is 10 to 1 in favor of revolvers, so that must make me an "oldtimer".

The only consistent sound argument I have heard for autoloaders over revolvers is magazine capacity.
In the right environment, reasonably easily arranged.I think the revolver would snot the auto.
Consider this,at the range there is one shooter with his auto and two mags, and another shooter with his revolver a speed loader, and his comp box tray loaded with 84 rounds.
Who do you reckon would get most rounds down the Range first?

I'll be 34 next week.....I've shot a lot of friends auto's(and I love my MKII)but wheel guns are my favorite.so far my GP100 is the most accurate gun any of my friends have shot!it's my fav. and I'll keep it forever!Still looking for a 4"Security 6 though>

This age thing has a way of creeping up on a person. I was 18 until I turned 30 just last week and now I am almost halfway to 40. Dang nab it, those years just fly! The 1990's went by when I just blinked and its like I am still wondering what happend to the 1980's.

Salt, I concur with you – couldn’t have put it better my self - my first handgun was a 6” barreled M-66, (not too long ago in the 80s). My favorite currently is a Beretta 92FS Centurion. One day I will convince myself that I need a .40 Auto.

sorry i'm late

I think i'm the only one who asn't replied to this thread, twice.

I'm 29 and enjoy shooting autoloaders, however they are all my friends, everything i own is a wheel, just more comfortable with them, enjoy them much more, andno pesky little magazines to load

No, you're not the only one. I am 30ish and only have revo's. Someone give me a bucket of ammo and I'm sure I'd return bucket of brass long before someone with a semiauto, although some may quibble "so what". The ease of operation and fit to my hands made it an easy decision. And it seems more mature to hold onto your casings instead of showering them everywhere on people and on the ground, much like a child.

I believe I may be an "old-timer"....

I am 26...I'll turn 27 on April 9th. I've been told that "I have an old soul" or that "I'm very mature for my age." Between that and all the scratches, nicks, and dings I've collected over the years, I do feel a bit old sometimes. LOL Sadly, my firearms inventory is not as diverse and far reaching as most of the members here. But I hope someday it will be.

Thus far, I have one handgun and one new one waiting to be picked up at the shop. My current companion is a Ruger KGP-141 .357 Magnum revolver. "Sylvia" has been my one and only for quite a while and has made me a believer in wheelguns. I can't say enough positive things about my Ruger. IF anyone here has ever even considered adding one to your inventory...*run*, do not walk to your nearest/best shop and get one today. You will not be disappointed.

That said, after 18 months of searching, renting, pouring over magazines, doing research, and generally trying to make a decision....I will soon be purchasing an auto. I've fallen for a Glock 30. :) I can't wait to bring her home and introduce her to her sister. Man what a family.

Cheers!

I'm 22 years old and I like wheel guns and autos. I prefer wheelguns on the range. they're just more fun to shoot plus you don't spend all that time loading mags. I carry a 2 1/2 inch Ruger SP101 in .357 mag every day. I sometimes leave the Ruger home and carry my H&K USPC .45 but not too often. For me there is just something about revolvers that I love. Maybe it's the fact that they been around for ever. Maybe it's because of the reliability. Or maybe it just the look of them. Not to mention how mean some of the larger ones look. I don't think revolvers are just for old guys. I'll take a nice 5 or 6 shot .357 revolver over most autos any day.

Most old people didn't have to many choice's of autoloaders when they were young, that may be why they like revolvers.I like both, Im 40 so I quess Im not young or old.

As far as age goes,I shook hands with Honus Wagner when I was a child.I don't prefer either type of handgun over the other. When dress permits I carry a 1911 of some kind or another but every other day of the year I carry a J-frame S&W.tom.

A revolver sounds good

Now that I have purchased my first rifle (Chinese SKS), I'm now looking to buy my first handgun. I'm not an old timer (22 years old), but .357 Magnum sounds like a better deal for my first hand gun. I would not carry it on me all the time but I will have it in the truck everywhere I go.

I'm 23 and I love my 625. Among my peers I'm unique for having started out with a revolver and sticking with one for a couple of years. I still love the design and will, from time to time, step out with the 625 but I normally carry a full-size 1911.

Following Tamaras lead, I was born the day of the Casablanca Conference.:D ;)

A few months ago I was at the range tearing up some paper. A voice from the next range called out, "That's pretty good shooting". Although I didn't really think it was addressed to me, a quick check showed that only the two of us were there so I responded, "Thanks". After a couple more runs I stepped back to the table to relax for a minute and the other gentlman came over to talk. When he saw my beat up old 4" M-28 sitting on the table his eyes got wide. "You did that with a revolver?", he asked.

It was just too funny. He had grown up in the post-Gaston period and I don't think he'd ever really seen a wheelgun before. I let him give it a try and he was shocked how well he was doing. He wanted to know which gunsmith had done the work on it and I think he was actually dissappointed that it was just as it had come from the factory about the same time he was born.

As to holsters for K, L and N frames, I really like the IWB Texas Heritage from Tucker Gunleather. I find it very comfortable and that I can conceal my M-19s with no problem.

When I'm wearing a coat or in the fields I'll usually use a paddle holster.

I'm 22. My first gun was a Glock 23. My second was a S&W 686p.
I sold the glock and am currently in the market for another revolver:)

I just turned 25 and I own four N-frame revolvers. If I have anything to say about it, I'm gonna own a whole bunch more of them too.

There is something about the way I can pick up and naturally shoot an N-frame revolver that draws me to them like a gnat to a bugzapper.

I started shooting my grandfather's old 38/44 Outdoorsman back when I was about 14. For rifles, I'm quite "with the times" in that my preference is for a self loader, preferably an AR15. But for a handgun, I don't consider myself undergunned if I have to carry a revolver and infact I flat out prefer them.

I will likely wind up being a person who primarily sticks to two types of actions for handguns, revolvers will likely be N-frames and semiautos will likely be 1911s. Might buy an HK P7 because it's the only other handgun out there that truely impresses me, but I am truely devoted to S&W N-frames.

Well than I guess I was an old timer at the ripe old age of 18 when I bought my first revolver, A Ruger Blackhawk .357. My next purchase was a S&W Md# 37, I was a little older then, 21:cool:
I've been buying guns now for 30 years and I still keep coming back to my revolvers, no matter what ever came in between. ;) Still have those first two by the way!:)
Now I guess I'm a really old oldtimer!:D

If you must know... I'm 43 married 19 years and my favorite wheel gun is the 4inch GP100. Followed closely by the S&W 45ACP Mountain Gun.

i'm 35 and have concluded that i'm a wheelgun man at heart. i like the 1911,and the fixed barrel 380's,second best.
i've tried a great number of handguns. i think the love of revolvers is a more intangible love, than that of auto's. it isn't about efficiency for me. i look for shooting and balance qualities that only a revolver can give.
i feel very much at home with large frame and caliber revolvers with short barrels. there is a rythm in the DA trigger, and a heavy cylinder that promotes better shooting out of me. short sight radius for the blind lefty in me.- ;)

Im 36 and feel older most of the time :D Ive had wheels on and off my whole life. S&W Highway patrolman at 16..gun great gun.
Shot many smiths my whole life...got my first SP101 in college..and sold it for tuition...in retrospect I should have kept the gun :D Ive had a LS60 J frame, a 650 cia and my trusty workded over SP101..Ill never give it up after thinking about selling it..Big mistake...its just to damn perfect. I also have had a miriad of s/autos over the years.....Taurus, S&W, CZ, Beretta...etc all have been world class guns...both are great but the snubs hold a place in my heart that only a great snub can fill.
Ill take my SP, K40 and PCR for now...all are world class.
Shoot well
