what was your FIRST handgun?

I've been shooting rifles and shotguns since I was very young. I hunted with my dad (shotgun, rifle and bow) since before I was old enough to have my own license and gun. I'd sit in the stand with him, watch for deer and learn. I didn't shoot a handgun of any kind until I was in the military and fired a Beretta 92. After I got out, MY first handgun was a glock 21. I choose it because I had always wanted a .45ACP and it was a great price as it was a used gun with very little use.

I've since sold that gun to a co worker, and I've got a number of others. S&W 22A, Ruger MarkIII, S&W 386NG, S&W 686 SSR, two Beretta PX4s and a S&W500.

And unfortunately, as for many of us, there is just not enough money to help me with this hobby. haha. There are so many others that I'd love to own/shoot.

S&W Mod 66 4"bbl

Shot a lot of 2.7gr bullseye under 148gr wad cutters out of that revolver! Scrounged lead and brass made the primer the most expensive part f the load!

I still think it or a Mod 19 S&W is the best first handgun

Ya know, as I said in a prior post on this forum, my first handgun purchased by me was that S&W Mod. 10 heavy barrel .38, BUT I got to thinking and the FIRST gun I ever used was my grandfathers .22 LR/L/S single shot, rolling block action, external hammer Sears rifle. Built maybe sometime around 1910. It was old and beat up when I saw it hanging up in my grandfathers garage on his farm in the late fifties and he used to let me shoot it out in the chicken yard into a big stump and by the barn at targets. Granddad before dinner time would load a .22 short round and shoot the head off a chicken in the yard backed by that stump for Sunday dinner. My dad used to shoot ground squirels for the bounty on them in the fields back in Minn., luging pail after pail of water out to the burrows to flush them out and get a shot at them. Enough ears and he got enought money for a new box of .22's and kept the cows and horses from breaking legs in the burrows. I still have that rifle, its so worn that shooting a .22 short in it will kick the rolling block back and open but its never going away. :D

technically, an mkVII desert eagle that was a little rough around the edges was given to me, a short time after it a sw 29-2, also given to me. The first gun I ever bought was a glock 22.

i don't think bb guns count - sorry.

I don't remember first handgun i shot. But first one that was mine was given by my Dad - ppk clone in .22 (Tangfolio). Not the best and ftf every now and then, but the thing was actually pretty accurate. Will never give it up.

First I bought - px4 full size - love it.

And A break top .32 Iver-Johnson.

was my Dads that was his Dads that he told me he used to play with when a boy he(my grandfather) was not home in his top dresser drawer. Good thing he did not leave it loaded or I would not be in existance! He still has and will pass on to me or my brother.

My first was a Benjamin .177 air gun. :p
I learned to shoot with my dad's old .22 rosco revolver.
My first rimfire handgun was a Ruger Mark II. It's still in the family and still shoots great.

My first handgun was a Smith and Wesson highway patrollman 357Mag.. i never shot anything but .22 handguns before then. My first shot with it was without hearing protection. Ouch.

A High Standard Dura-Matic M-101 .22LR (1966 or '67). The second time the one piece grip broke, I figured the Dura-Matic was short in the dura department and traded it in on a Target Ruger Mk1 (early '70s) which I still have.

Bersa 380 thunder duo tone. 380acp I love it ! ! ! Still on nightstand duty! You never forget your first!! Plus she plays nice when I hold other guns.... I thing I play with a sig p232sl and my bersa 380 at the same! Life is good! LOL

1969 young newly married junior enlisted sailor forced by finances to live in a seedy part of town in California bought the only handgun they could afford for the wife's house gun. I don't know where she is and I don't care but I still have the gun and still shoot it. H&R 922 at 25 yards last summer:

I absolutely LOVE hearing these stories guys! Especially the ones that still have the gun and ones that were handed down and have sentimental value! I wish my dad was into guns when I was a kid and I had those memories to share, but he's been disabled since I was 2 and hasn't been able to do a whole lot. By the way I just HAVE to say it..

PDOGKLR.. That gun is gorgeous and in excellent shape it looks like! I also love the pics of the old beat up revolvers and stuff that you guys still have and still shoot! That is great! This has turned out to be a great thread I'm loving it!

My first was a horrible Taurus Model 83, in nickel. Spit really bad, bound up after about 6 shots due to the lopsided cylinder. And worst of all, the worst rifling ever. After six shots, I had to chisel the lead out of the barrel with a brass rod. Went back to Taurus, twice. They fixed the spitting, but the barrel was never fixed. I saw a Dan Wesson 15-2 and bought it the day it came back from Taurus for the second time. Some bozo gave me a decent amount of cash for the Taurus, even though I told him about all the problems it had!
