what was your FIRST handgun?

On my 21st birthday in 1976 I bought a Ruger 7-1/2" blued Blackhawk in 45 Colt. This also led me to start reloading, so I could shoot A LOT!

Hi-Standard Double Nine in .22. Yikes. Wanted a single-six but I knew this guy who sold me the Double Nine with a quick-draw holster for about half the bucks. It looked good in the holster, anyway, and was handy the time my grandmother's place was infested with a bunch of rattlesnakes. Still have it around here, someplace. Trigger pull in DA was awful...

Mine was a Glock 19.

Not my first choice at the time, but a great deal sprang up.
No regrets, though: working well for me!!

Luckily, it is not so lonely now...

A Luger my uncle brought back from WWII.
I was only about 8 years old. While playing with it (yes, playing) I slammed the toggle on my thumb. It hurt, I got mad and gave it back.

Li'l Bertha,,,

She's an RG in .22 short that I bought at a garage sale back in the early 60's,,,
I think I paid $5.00 for it and never told my mother I bought it,,,
I was 12 years old but times were different back then.

It's pure fluke that I still have it,,,
I recently found it in a box in my sister's attic,,,
It was with some other stuff I packed up before USAF basic training

Back in '89 and fresh out of college, I picked up a Browning Hi-Power from a small gun store in northern Austin, TX. Still remember paying for the weapon and accessories (gun rug, ammo, grips, and cleaning stuff) and walking out the door without a waiting/cool-off period. The best was the paperwork - a standard State form that was "filed" in the bottom drawer of a file cabinet by tossing it on top of the countless other "yellow forms" that were haphazardly stacked/crumpled in the drawer.

Still own the weapon :)

Wow guys thanks a lot for sharing your stories they're really cool to hear! I can't believe all of the replies already!

FN/Browning 1922. I was 15, got hold of a friend I knew that had flunked a few grades in high school, and paid him $5.00 to buy it for me,:D

My mother found it hidden in my closet after a month or so, told my father, and...

Well, suffice to say, I didn't sit down for a month or so.

Springfield XD9, 4" barrel. Bought it at Christmas in '09 and it's still my primary EDC. Looking to shorten the grip so it doesn't print as much (use the XD subcompact 13 rd. magazines) and maybe add a red-dot sight. We'll see.

Caliber 44 cap & Ball Remington New Model Army Replica. Made by Ubetili.

Bought it in 1972. Wasn't 21 yet. All of my buddies were old enough to buy pistols. Still have it today and it still shoots well.

Knew abosultely nothing about BP. Read a couple of articles and went to shooting. Folks did not know. Was taking it down to show my cousin. Loaded all 6 cylinders and was just going to carry the caps. Screwed up and ended up shooting the door to my bed room. Dad never fixed the door and used it as part of his gun safety class for all of his grandchildren and a couple of his great grandchildren.

Loved to hunt squirrel with it. Never hit one but it was fun to see the branches fall as that big round ball flew down a tree line.

It was a great training tool and helped me develop in to a competent pistol shooter. Still recommend that Novice shooters start with a C&B revolver.
