What caliber was your first handgun??

Same as Casparado, Military issued M9 9mm (Berreta 92f). My first & only personally owned pistol for protection is a Glock 23 .40 S&W. My son was given a Smith & Wesson .22LR by my dad. It has a 8 3/8" barrel & is pretty accurate.

Actual real life handgun was a 1911 .45 ACP

First handgun quasi-look-a-like was a crazy colored .44 magnum based water pistol.

after the 1911 was the .460 S&W Magnum 460V

then an XD-40 Service

Then the latest has been a Mark VII .44 Magnum Desert Eagle that dazzled the range 3 weeks ago with the Remington 180 grain flame throwers. lol That was fun. Full range so they had no booths to skip over to and caught all the sound and fury of that one. The whole range went quiet and everybody looked around to see who brought the hand held artillery. lol Dad said the overpressure shook the range but I didn't feel anything. Lit up the whole range with one big flash I know that happened. lol :D

.460 is hard to get locally so I hardly get to shoot full on factory loads which is a real shame but that's what the DE is for. I love that thing. A target pistol on steroids. lol

LOL!!! Had sorta the same kinda deal with one of my buddies. A bunch of us went to an indoor pistol range. Well he had just bought a Taurus Judge. When he lit up with that beast w/ the .410 rounds...the entire range stopped firing & came down to his booth to investigate the WMD. It reminded me of the scene in RoboCop when he lit off with his full auto pistol!!!:D

I haven't seen Robo Cop in ages but yeah the thought of Stallone in Judge Dread with his pistol on "Rapid Fire" comes to mind. :)

Makes you wonder what you get out of non pre-rifled slugs from one of those things doesn't it?

My dad said if he had to have a large caliber pistol he'd want the Judge but I think he's slowly changing his mind after borrowing my 460V. He's got Arthur in his shoulder and I loaded him up with factory .45 Colt Winnies (Winchester) at listed 830 fps and he didn't like the weight till he started pulling the trigger. :) Hard to argue with close groups, a bullseye and almost zero felt recoil.

.25 acp

It was a $50 gun I bought 30 years ago for protection. I took into a carpet shop in Columbia, SC because they wanted to see it. Their 260 lbs. warehouse guy comes in and says "Wow, that is just like the one I got shot with in Florence last year". I asked him what happened to him & he said "It made me so mad I took it away from him and beat him to a pulp with it". I sold it for $40 bucks the next day... True story.

The first handgun I ever shot was my Dad's High Standard Sport King - .22.

The first handgun I ever bought was a 1851 Colt Navy - .36. Am still using it along with a '61 Colt Navy and a .36 cal. 1858 Remington. I've shot blackpowder for over 45 years - everything from flint to percussion - rifle/smoothbore - full size 10 pound Parrott Rifle (cannon) and an original Civil War seige mortor.

I recently got interested in the new fangled cartridge guns. I had a 1911A1 Colt given to me when I was 14. I know a lot of fellows love 'em but it really was more power than I liked. It was in pristine condition with the original holster, clip pouch and clips - just the way the Navy pilot had it when he brought it home fromt he war. I recently sold it as it was almost "mint" and I felt it was too good to shoot. I recently bought an old H & R "sidekick" 9 shot 22 with I think a six inch barrel. Lots of fun to shoot and plink with. I also bought an old model Ruger Bearcat 22 - a real beauty and another fun one to plink with. I wanted something larger so I picked up a new Ruger Vaquero with a 5 1/2" barrel - 357. I wanted something to shoot as well as HD since I spend half the year in the east and half in the southwest. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but am looking forward to putting some 38 specials through it next week. Since I pretty much cut my teeth on BP and shoot cap & ball revolvers, I'm kind of stuck on single action.

I "wandered" over here from the BP section and am enjoying reading the posts and getting educated on the cartridge handguns. Many thanks! :)

If I recall correctly my first handgun was an FN Model 1922 in .32acp, waa140 proofed with correct WW2 holster and two mags. Still have it.

.22lr

It was a High Standard Duramatic that was missing the lock washer for the screw holding the barrel to the frame. Accuracy was sketchy at best as the barrel loosened with each shot. :)

First gun

First gun I bought was a T/C Contender with a .22lr and .44 Mag barrels. I figured that would take care of both extremes. Found that I enjoyed the T/C in all calibers up to the .35 Remington more than any revolver more powerful than a .44 Special.

1st

First handgun - Ruger Mk.II Gov't .22rf.
Second was a T/C Contender 10" bbl. in .357Mag
Third - a Colt Gold Cup .45

My first gun that is my own, and not shared, is my Smith and Wesson M&P 40. So the caliber of that gun, my first gun, is obviously the .40 S&W.

However, I did have a Ruger Mark III 22/45 that I paid half of while my dad paid the other half, that we got about a year before I acquired the M&P, and it is a .22lr.

The first gun actually purchased by me was a Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec (With the lowered and flared Ejection Port, not the GI) in .45 ACP. By far my favorite gun in my collection. I guess there's nothing like your first love. ;)

First gun I ever shot was an old single shot Remington Targetmaster .22 rifle that I've since inherited from my father. It has a few good memories associated with it.
