What caliber was your first handgun??

The first handgun I owned was a Ruger Single Six .22lr. The first handgun I actually bought was a Glock 22 in .40 S&W. I still have the Glock but the Ruger is sadly long gone.

First handgun period, Jennings J-22, worked about 90% of the time. Traded it to a young lady many years later who needed a gun and couldn't afford one.
First serious handgun, Charter Arms Off Duty 38 snub, felt like one of the detectives off the many cop shows of the early 80s.

22 LR High Standard HD Military. My grandpa gave it to me when I was about a kid. Probably 50 years ago!
Still shoots great!

Late 1970's. A Ruger Security-six .357. 2 3/4" barrel.
Regretted selling it the same day, I finally replaced it a couple of years ago.

First hand gun

The first one I bought was a charter arms 32 cal 2" barrel. I got it for my wife when i was deployed on an extended TDY. Sold it when I got home. First issues hand gun SW 38 combat masterpeice. liked it wanted to keep it.

"...only 700 bucks..." Only? $700 was a pile of money in 1980.
My first handgun that worked was an issue .45. The first that I owned were an H&R .32 revolver and a Colt .32-20. Given to me. Neither in working condition, but they got me on Canadian paper for free.
