Both of these are kept close by and with thier 45 ACP cylinders filled with 230gr. Black Talons. Since they are not being carried at that point they get all six chambers loaded and put on the safety notch.
My nightstand gun is a 4-inch Springer 1911 Loaded ... one of the key reasons is the excellent night sights, which lets me find and index the gun quickly in the dark ... another is its excellent accuracy and total reliability since new ... and of course, nobody wants to get hit with a .45 ACP ...
My "night-stand gun" is usually whatever handgun I carried that day. If it serves well as a self-defense gun, then I see no reason that it can't also serve as a home-defense gun.
After all, my carry guns are the ones I'm most familiar with.
Pythagorean- me and the little lady also sleep with a CZ52 ready in a flap holster in a cubby in the headboard. She feels very comfortable with it anf its just a good old gun. I trust it (just not the de-cocker).
The last few days my wife had my usual 1911 nightstand gun on her trip with the kids.
I was "forced" to go to plan B for the nightstand, my PS90. 50 rounds ought to clear any situation I might find myself in and would annoy any would be burglar counting shots and waiting for a reload.
Love the CZ52, but ooof are they loud and the muzzle flash is pretty unreal. I reload for mine and have a very nice cast bullet load that would work, but to use the factory stuff, you're probably gonna go a little deaf.
XD9 subcompact with my Surefire flashlight and an extra mag.
Have a Win 1300 Defender and Mini-14 under the bed, and a 5mo old Shar-pei/Husky mix who I'm hoping will grow up into a good line of defense. She has potential.
I used to rotate between a Colt combat comander in .45 God and a S&W M 19 with a 4 inch tube. Then I found out even tho my wife could shoot them both she was'nt confortable with them. So now I keep a Glock 19 in the night stand. She shoots that thing very, very well! I'm very pleased with that!
