Ruger Security Six few 38+ few 357 :D wanted something easy for me or wife if needed First responder if you will .

I have an 870 with 00 Buckshot in the corner, and my Kahr CW 9 on the nightstand. I carry the Kahr everyday, and the nightstand is where it gets set down every night. I have to say though if I hear something go bump in the night I'm reaching for my Remington instead of my Kahr.

I guess a flashlight is optional

Thanks, made me chuckle. I keep several lights close by for sure but my fixed light is on the Kel-Tec PLR-16 unfortunately it doesn't fit/sit well on the nightstand. :D

Poll

TBH when I took this poll I thought that the .45 would be in the minority, I’m pleasantly surprised that it’s in the majority

I'm using Federal 230 grain Hydroshocks in my Witness 45. It shoots tight groups exactly to the fixed sights' point of aim. I took that as a sign that that's what I should use.

A small flashlight and a .40 cal. There's no such thing as too much gun for home defense. I use a .40 cal. only because I don't have a 40mm.

An old but ultra-reliable S&W 4586 with XS tritiums, my cell phone, a couple of SureFire lights, two extra mags of 230 gr. Gold Dots and an Emerson folder, all on my "General Quarters!" belt rig in the nightstand. Backed-up by a Remington 870 and 5 rds of #4 Buck in the mag (with +1 extension tube, chamber empty) in a rack mounted on the inside of my closet door.

Put the rig together after reading one of "John Connor's" columns in AH. Made perfect sense to me, as where exactly does one temporarily park his weapon or light while trying to dial "911" or anything else that might become urgently necessary with one or both of his hands while wearing only pajama bottoms, skivvies or if caught "going Commando" when the klaxon sounds? Actually try just sticking your pistol in the waistband of your shorts or PJs sometime and see what happens. It might be best to do this while alone, if you're shy.

SIG P245 .45 ACP in my nightstand, 12 gauge about 5 steps away. I can't imagine the BG's buddies waiting for the second BOOM!! in a dark house. :D

Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt, stoked with 250 grain Hornady XTP hollow points, running an average of 1090fps over the chrono.
