The Walmart Ammo thread

I have been to a few Walmarts in the past couple of days. Seen some 9mm, lots of 40, but no 45. Hoping to go in one day and catch the 45 jackpot.

Ya I thought long and hard about getting the XDM40 instead of the XD45, I don't regret my decision cause I love the 45 but life would be much easier with the 40.

I visited my local Wal-Mart today and asked when they expected deliveries of ammo..... The response from my regular ammo person was that everything was on order, but the company assigns "something" for each store...So, on any given delivery, "something" was offered each store...In my case, plenty of .40.......... Patience, friends......

After about my 100th visit my local Walmart actually had 9 boxes of Remington 38 spl. $14.57/box. I was shocked. As much as I wanted to clean them out I didn't. I bought 4 boxes and left 5 five the next guy. The guy working the counter actually thanked me for not buying them all. IMO this hoarding is ridiculous and I chose not to be a part of it. A lot of people will regret their hoarding when the supply comes back and prices drop back to normal. They will be left with a closet full of over priced ammo.

Today. I went to Walmart and bought some 25acp, 32acp, 44mag, and 45acp. Just one box of each. That left about 10 boxes of 25acp; 0 boxes of 32acp; 15+ of 44mag and about 3 boxes of 45acp.

But for what it's worth, we have 2 gun shops and a sporting goods store in town. Sporting goods store is out, but both gun shops have 45acp. Prices range from $19.99 to $29.99 depending on the brand and type of ammo. I haven't looked for a while, but it seems that 380 is now about the only thing not available. Well, actually it's not available in plinking type ammo. I saw some Corbon and Federal Hydra-Shok at one of the shops.

9mm was available in central OH Walmarts today. In one there were 2000 rounds of WWB. Plenty of .40 and little less of 45. Still no .22lr:mad:

Beentown

Never thought there would be a day when I wanted/needed.22 so bad:barf:

The lady at the ammunition counter at my local Walmart doesn't know much about ammunition...but she did turn me on to a good Mexican Restaurant!!

I've stopped by the local Walmart several times a week for the last month and haven't seen any 9mm even once. Yesterday I ventured over to the next little town about 20 mi. away and the sporting goods section was basically deserted and lo and behold they had about a dozen WWB 100 rd. value packs on the shelf behind the counter. I grabbed two and left 10 for someone else.

After weeks of calling everyday and stopping in I found a few boxes of 9mm blazer brass. I was hoping to get WWB. I'll keep my rotation going, I only have a couple hundred rounds. That goes pretty quickly.

Two weeks ago the WalMart in Lewistown, PA, was almost completely cleaned out of ammo.

I'm going to see what the situation is at the one WalMart in Manassas, VA, this afternoon.

.25, 7.62x39 and some 30-30 yesterday afternoon at the Wally-world here in NW Florida... I stop in once a week to pick up a box of 40 S&W or .380

I've been to the local Walmart a few times this week....

On Saturday, they had no 9mm or 45ACP ammo, and a few 100packs of CCI Stingers.

On Wednesday, they had about 15 boxes of 100pack Remington UMC JHP 9mm ammo, still no 45ACP, and 4 boxes of Federal 22LR value packs. (I bought 3 boxes of 9mm for myself.)

Went back on Thursday for 22LR (on Wed, I could have sworn I still had some at home!), and all the 9mm was gone, no change on 45ACP, and the same 4 boxes of the Federal 22LR value packs were there. I bought 2 of them.

I work there, I have for about 12 years now. Not in that part of the store, but yes i work at Walmart. The first thing that everyone needs to understand is the person behind the sporting goods counter IS just an 18 year old kid, that doesn't have any interest what so ever in firearms or ammunition. They don't get very many hours and don't get paid very well. It's just a job, a job they need so that they can have money for gas to go running around with their friends, or what ever it is they do. And no, they don't know the difference between a .380 and a 9mm, and really don't care what the difference is. But you really can't blame them for that. Blame the store for sure, I know I do. I can honestly tell you that I have not seen any ammo there in a long time. It really started to fly off the shelves since about Oct. of last year. The other day, two customers got into a fist fight over a case of .40 S&W, Seriously. People are freaking out because they are scared Obama is going to try to take everything away from them, and raise the price of everything else that he doesn't take away. There was one lonely little 100 round box of 9mm over there the other night, and i bought it. They have since posted a sign over there that says they are going to limit the sale of ammunition to 6 boxes per customer, each time they buy.

All this hoarding makes no sense. IF nothing happens, you now are the proud owner of a bunch of over priced ammo. IF the messiah decides to place large taxes and or restricts ammo purchases, well, now your ammo is too valuable to shoot/sell/barter with so it will just collect dust. Either way, jokes on you.

First of all, this is the Walmart thread. The prices at walmart haven't been gouged. They are about the same price as they were before christmas. Hell; half the stickers on the shelves look like they are a couple years old.

Our walmart doesn't have the 18 year old kids in the sporting goods department. They are 50+ year old guys. 4 of them. Different ones at different times. But I don't blame them and I don't blame the store. How can you blame a store? They just want to sell you stuff and make money. If they don't have it, they can't sell it, and they can't make money. But our walmart seems to get ammo in every day. Might just be a couple of boxes scattered, but they get stuff in. I saw 3 boxes of 32 auto. I basically have enough for defense and survival purposes. So I didn't buy any of it. 3 days later, there was still 2 of the boxes left. So I then bought it. There's been 25 auto and 44 mag on the shelves for weeks. 9mm, 45acp, 38, 357, all come in and out sporadically. No one really to blame except for the scum who buy the entire shelf for the sole purpose of reselling it on gunbroker or a gun show. Those who shoot a lot, reload and/or buy in bulk online. They've gotten most of what they needed. I have. The average gun owner or new gun owner who might shoot a gun once a year if they're luck; aren't buying cases of ammo. They bough 5-10 boxes and probably believes they have enough for years. Which they probably do.

Here is the key...

If you have a 24 hour Wal-Mart you need to be there when the truck comes in. There will be other shooters waiting. My Wal-Mart has ammo on the floor between 9:30 and 10:00 at night. I was there with two other shooters last night.

Then you have to hope for your chosen caliber. They only had one case (ten boxes) of Federal 550 .22 LR. The local Wal-Mart has a limit of six boxes per customer per day. I split the .22's with another shooter and the third member of our little club took 9 mm.

We had to get the manager to ring us up as the sporting goods section closed at 10:00. If he/she will not do this you may have to go back in the morning. You'll need to be there when the dept. opens, and there may again be a line.

Good luck.

Our walmart (24/7) doesn't do the time thing. If there's no one at the sporting goods counter, just ask and someone will get what you want. We pay for almost everything at the regular registers. We don't have to pay at sporting goods. Most times, I buy the couple boxes I want, throw them in the basket, and go buy other items and pay for it all at once.

I stopped in a local pawn shop this afternoon, and that same WWB 100 round value pack I bought at Walmart last week for $20/box, the pawn shop had it priced at $41.95/box. No doubt one reason Walmart is constantly sold out is because people like this go there and buy 'em out and then try selling it for double the price.

Other than looking and getting to handle various guns to get a feel for them, I'd never buy anything from that pawn shop.
