The Walmart Ammo thread

There isn't a huge conspiracy by all local dealers to buy all the ammo at all Wally Worlds. It's just incredibly increased demand, combined with certain unscrupulous loser local dealers.

It's hit and miss, but sometimes you get lucky. I just scored two 50 count boxes of 9mm Blazer Brass FMJ 115gr. ammo for $7.40 each (last two on the shelves) and a 100 count box of Remington UMC 45ACP JHP 230gr. for $36.97 earlier today (last one on the shelves too).

Now, the other day in the same Wally World I scored the ammo above, I overheard the Sporting Goods employee tell another customer that they've stopped ordering ammo, but you can place an order with them for whatever ammo they used to have in stock and it should be there in 8 days or less.

I've purchased 40S&W ammo from several WMs in the Phoenix Area. The employees know what they have, how many boxes, and the prices, and they sell it to me efficiently. I NEVER ask about firearms so I'm never disappointed.

BTW all the 5-or-so WMs I visit have the Blazer Brass 40S&W 180g. FMJ stuff for $12.47/50, and today a got a box of Remington 180g. HPs for $32/100.

Sure would be nice if I could get Lee to respond to my e-mails about dies in stock so I could start reloading the (thousands of) cases I have.

Corporate Culture

You go get a job at wally world, and show some knowledge about firearms. The way the managers treat you after that will shock you. For that matter, show some knowledge about anything, and watch how the managers treat you. I learned early on at wally world to keep my head down, look ignorant, and DO NOT volunteer for ANYTHING. What I should have learned earlier on (and later did), was to get another job. Two years of hell, and not a good start in life. Go easy on those poor souls, they deserve your pity.

Now that is worth knowing. Thanks for the info.

Walmart ammo

I do in fact occasionally use walmart ammo. The rounds aren't bad, i wont shoot the cheap off brand stuff though. for my xd .45 acp i will use winchester or remmington. 230 gr. havent jammed up or misfired yet. shot about 500 rds. just be safe and make sure you clean your gun well!

Where they dont sell guns

Try living where Walmart doesnt sell guns/ammo and you will quickly learn to love anyplace that will - stupid/unhelpful or not. If your Walmart doesnt - the government is winning.

I have a problem with the Walmart where I live. The department manager holds ammo back(or doesn't put it out) for her familyor friends. I am not talking about 1 box of ammo. I mean every box of 9mm 40s&w and 22lr bulk packs. I witnessed this early this morning. I was looking at the case where the ammo is and of course they were wiped out. A gentlemen walked up and asked the department manager if any ammo had come in. She said "yes it came in but it all got gone" He walked off and so did I. I walked 1 aisle over. Then I heard the dept manager get asked by a woman if she had any ammo put back. She said "let me go get it" When she came back she had 3 boxes bulk pack 22lr and atleast 900 rounds of 40s&w. I looked at the manager and just shook my head in disgust. Unfortunately, it seems like the deck is stacked.

I have experienced all the good and bad sales clerk stories as the rest of you, and sadly, it isn't limited to the ammo department.

But, I'm also a member at a high end shooting club and when I quizzed one of the owners about whether any .380 was trickling in, he replied that a case came in that week but a club member had spoken for all of it. When I gave him my opinion about how they chose to make one member happy with a case of ammo that 50 other members were looking for, his reply was "You snooze, you lose".

The club member that was rewarded with the ammo had a table at the gun show last weekend selling it for double what he paid for it.

So my point is, I would rather take my chances at Wally World with all the warts than a bad attitude at a club than I pay to belong to. This shortage will someday be over and when the club manager asks if I need any ammo for my range session I'll tell him why I brought it with me.

There are four Wal-Marts within easy distance from where I live. Of the three I visit, each has a knowledgeable shooter behind the counter five days a week for eight hours a day out of their 16 open hours from 6:a.m. to 10:00 p.m.. The rest of the time the counter person may not have much expertise but they do know the stock they have. That's easier to do now, of course.

Very well put, and amen to the sentiment as well.

hey, your club sells ammo?

no fair. mine doesn't!

It's all fine though. I really wouldn't get too personally upset if I knew that an establishment was holding back ammo for VIP only. I'll just spend my money someplace else. It's really their loss, because over time they will lose customers and they'll be left with only the few they actually sold to. Eventually when things go back to normal, they'll be wondering why they have dust on their ammo stock.

I buy what I can and share with friends who weren't so lucky with their search. It's no big deal to me, nobody owes anybody. Friends do because they want to. And shooting by yourself is only fun for the first few rounds.

If the department manager or any employee is saving out for friends, etc, that would be grounds for termination. Especially at the managerial level. If you can prove it, report it. The problem should go away. Saves driving further.

Our Wal-Mart at Flamingo & Griffen used to be stocked 24/7. Like everybody else they cannot keep the popular calibers in. Found out tonight that a lady arrives after shipment and buys all she can carry. Sometimes it's a man, they are snatching all the Blaser Brass 9mm at $8.97 a box. It appears to be going to the Gun Shows. It has been seen there at $14.95 a box.

Today they put a 4 box limit each buy.:(

I live in south Austin and the walmart off of ben white and 35 is hit or miss
They put ammo out when ever they feel like it not so much when they get it in. The staff knows nothing about anything when it comes to guns and ammo. they know just enough to be stupid IE you ask for 380 ammo and they hand you 9mm and when you tell them its the wrong size they say well its all the same caliber it will fit. I'm sure i got called all kinds bad names when i told em yes same caliber but different length of the round. But 9mm is 12 bucks for a box of 100 at walmart and at the local gun store it runs about twice that. unless i have the time to drive to gt distributors in north Austin

Can't believe some people think they can get "technical" answers about fire arms at Wal Mart, it's hard enough to get a straight answer from your local gun shop most of the time. The people at Wal Mart are just like the place I work at "Chinese Sales Reps" just trying to survive. Don't get me started on this country selling the farm from out from under us, you take away goods made in foreign country's and there will be nothing on shelves to sell.

are you sure about that? More like $16 on the current contract, I'm pretty sure.
