would a similar Glock, Hk, or Sig poll have the same results? Would 49% say Glocks kaboom on heresay so they don't trust them?

No, I believe Glock and HK pride themselves in quality control.
I believe Taurus prides themselves on re-inventing the wheel, and quality takes a back seat.

I will never claim that Taurus produces fine quality guns all the time. BUT, sometimes a few slip out.;)

As long as it's this one...

then yes.

Add me to the list

I also would say no. This is partly why I had offered my PT 145 for sale because I read so many bad personal reviews from private owners of them.
(I also don't like the small handgrip area for a .45 acp). And the minor machining flaws with it. It did not inspire my confiedence. That all being said I have an early pre ban PT 100 that seems OK. Does it have the fit & finish of another name brand? I can see some minor machine tool marks inside it, so don't know. I don't own a 96 FS to compair it to. I know I will not consider purchasing a Taurus again. Thanks, Uncleguntrumpet:)

I have been monumentally satisfied with my Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro (3rd gen). It was purchased after a great deal of investigation into the various problems that plagued other generations of the pistol's design. I just recently wrote up a review of it.

I rely on it as my only carry-worthy pistol. Compared to the other options in my price range, it has more than proved itself worthy. I've even added the PT-1911 to my wish list, because of my experience with my Taurus.

YMMV, but I'm happy with mine, until I can afford a Walther P99 in .40. (I love that gun, for some reason.)

at 180 votes the no votes are slightly ahead.
However i am surprised that so many people would trust taurus to be their only handgun when there are glocks, smiths, colts, hks, sigs and what not out there!

I think it was a good way to pose the question. Better than just general asking opinions on Taurus. I just got back from a 600 mile distant trip. I carried my PT945 as my only gun on the trip. I own lots of others..Colt, S&W, Ruger, SA, etc, but on the trip Taurus was the only gun available. So by definition I trust my PT945 for SD.

And, no I would not trust Taurus without having proved out that particular pistol for SD. But I would not trust any other of my guns for SD unless I proved them out for lots of rounds. Heck, I even had a failure on my GP100 (purchased new)....now figure that!

The question at hand is not "would you choose a Taurus over a Glock, a S&W, a Colt, a HK, a Sig, or whatnot?" It is "do you trust Taurus to be your only handgun?" For those of us who have a perfectly reliable Taurus, there is no reason why the existence of finer guns would make us less comfortable with ones that have served us well and earned our trust. The fact that one gun or another runs great has no bearing on the individual performance of any other gun. I can certainly understand taking brand reputation into consideration when making a purchase, but once a gun has established itself as reliable and durable, the name etched on it becomes irrelevant.

I am not sure what exactly you are trying to suggest by saying, 'Pakistan is third world country. Taurus is not made there'

I invite you make a clear statement so that I can respond to it appropriately. Otherwise, the statement is an incomplete thought that can be construed in multiple ways.

Firepower!,

Are Taurus firearms sold in your country?

If so, have you had any experience with them?

What is the average price for say a Ruger Black Hawk, or a S&W 626 (converted to dollars), in your country?

Thanks.

Yes Taurus are sold here in Pakistan. The semi auto costs about 687.5 US$ as of today.

I have had three Taurus semi autos. All pt 24/7. 2 in 9mm and one in45.

The 45 one performed ok. However the 9s were utter disappointment. They did not shoot accurately, and one of the consistantly mis fired and required two strikes, with occasional FTE.

The only ruger revovler I know of is Ruger SRH in 44 with bushnell scope. I bought it for 6500$ US, and was offered 10000 and I refused to sell.

Ruger P89 is available for about 2750$.

Glock is regarded as the best pistol around here.

I own two Taurus revolvers ... I answered no, imagining somebody took all my guns away and gave me a new Taurus as my only SD handgun ... I've had an 85 for years, and it is quite reliable, but I made sure of that with many hours and hundreds of rounds at the range. It rides in my glovebox. I also have a 617 -- 7-shot snubbie .357 -- which I bought to carry. However, it needed an $85 visit to the gunsmith, to smooth out the trigger so it didn't feel like it was being dragged through sand, and to open the gap between the forcing cone and cylinder. It was so tight that debris and the heat from shooting as few as 30 rounds would jam the cylinder so tight it wouldn't turn. I like Taurus guns, for their price, but I bet my life on a Kahr PM9 and a Kimber Ultra Carry II.

Oh joy another Taurus bashing thread. Hype is NOT a good thing. And most of the anti-Taurus hysteria is pure hype. For example people seem to love Ruger stuff but I've never seen a Ruger pistol I really liked when compared to other stuff at the same price. Those so called "target" pistols they make are not accurate at all. I can shoot a pistol very well. I know when one isn't hitting what you aim at. My Taurus isn't nearly as accurate as my Sig but it's accurate enough for what it's designed to do. I wouldn't say the same about a Ruger target pistol. In fact my Taurus shoots better than any Ruger .22 target pistol I've ever shot. My Raven P-25 SNS, $50 brand new, 2 inch barrel pocket pistol will shoot better than any Ruger target pistol I've ever shot. Yet the hype lives on. Go figure.

I have a Ruger MKII, a Single Six and a Bearcat. I could never shoot any of them as well as my center fire guns. I just came to believe that I just wasn't a very good shot with .22LR handguns. I relegated them to plinking/fun gun status.

Then I bought a Taurus 4" 94 and started shooting nice groups instead of patterns. My eyes were opened.

I took my 5 1/2"Single Six and my M94 out to the range for a side by comparison using three types of ammo (Win 333, Fed 550 and Rem Yellowjackets). The lowly, cheapo Taurus consistently produced significantly tighter groups than the Ruger. And (I really liked this) the POI did not change when I changed when I changed ammo.

I was so impressed I ordered a 5" Taurus 94, which I will pick up tomorrow.

I have a PT1911 that is one of the best pistols I've owned. I carry a Para Ord LTC mainly because of size. Taurus makes a lot better pistol then they used to.

I have an old Model 65 357 and a MK III Never had a hiccup out of any of them.
