I vote against the Taurus because I've seen enough of their guns malfunction that I wouldn't trust one for anything important. But they do have a lot of neat ideas for new models.

I voted yes. Sometimes I carry my UL85. It is usually my backup but when it is my only one on board & sure trust it.

Matter of fact you better trust your back up. Carrying a backup can be seen as a little distrust to your primary.
If primary gose down :o the backup better be reliable.;)

Can't agree with that. I think it was well written enough for most to get the idea if what was being asked.

and i cant agree with that
regardless of the question, this thread has been turned into a "do you like or dislike taurus?" thread. which still doesnt answer the poorly written question of whether or not you "trust" taurus to be your only handgun, assuming price is no option.

your answer for example should have been no....

I answered yes.....but my answer was based on the one Taurus I own. My PT945 has been great, and I shoot it a lot. But I must admit I think Taurus in general does have more quality problems than other major manufactures. So my answer of yes was if the Taurus is the one I own and have proved to be reliable so far. If I had to pick a pistol at random to load a shoot the first time for SD I probably would pick something like my XD.

I don't know how useful these kinds of polls are, but I sure would like to have a dollar for every "is Taurus good, 9mm VS .45ACP, Glock VS XXX, and 1911" thread.

given infinite choices and the cost being no object, you would choose your xd... which still doesnt answer the question since you are solely looking at the weapons you own and discounting what few stipulations he did include

it's just a horribly written question.

I had to vote yes because I did for a good long while. It's an M85, and I still have it and carry it often, although not exclusively now. And yes, it needed repair right after I got it, but that was twelve years ago, back in the day when they paid shipping and turned guns around in ten days.

And as far as this poll goes, you can reword the question two hundred different ways and give two to twenty options, but it is the same question, and you will get the same results:

Q: Do you like Taurus?

A: The frame of my PT145 cracked after 47 rounds and it took three trips at my expense over four months to get it fixed.
A: I love my Model 85UL, and carry it everyhwere!
A: I've had sixty-eight Taurus' and all of them broke. I sold them all. Matter of fact, I just got home from the gun store with a 24/7, and when it breaks, you can bet I'll sell it, too!
A: I've got 726,000 rounds through my PT92 with no FTFs or FTEs. And it cleans itself.
A: I traded a buddy a .25 Lorcin and a 9mm Hi-Point with a "KEEP HONKING, I'M RELOADING" bumper sticker on the slide for A Titanum Tracker in .41 Magnum, and as soon as I got it home, it drank all my beer, crashed my car, and ran off with my wife.
A: A Taurus saved my life in Grenada. Pulled me from a burning tank under heavy enemy fire. It was a blued Model 82 with a 4" barrel. Never got a chance to thank it. If you know this Taurus, please tell it I've done my best to earn it.
A: lol hlr glock!!!!!!!!!

Allow me to hazard a prediction as to the outcome of this thread: some people like Taurus guns, and some people really, really, really hate Taurus guns.

I chose no, There isn't a Taurus in my top 10 at all. Not because of anything I've read etc. more because they don't make weapon that fits my needs. Although a Raging Bull .454 would be a cool gun to own.

i would not choose a taurus handgun as my only handgun.

would i trust a taurus ?

it would have to earn it.

the only taurus i would consider buying would be an older pt92. preferably old enough to have beretta roll marked on the slide.

taurus revolver, one event yes, over time...i think so...based on a few taurus i owned years ago.
but if i had a choice, between a few other brands, it probobly would be #5.

automatic, no clue, never owned one.

Never!

I would not! In fact, I would not even keep one as a fun gun (unless it was free).

Why?
I have never had one that actually worked well.
Nobody I know has ever had one that worked well.

In short, their quality is so bad, across the board that I would never own one, much less as an only, because I need a gun that is reliable and accurate, especially as my one and only. Taurus cannot fill these needs.

Funon1

Until I started reading "gun boards" on the internet, I didn't know the Taurus' I've owned sucked so bad. All the time before I was confused and thought they worked as well as any other gun I've owned, and trust me, I've owned a fair number of them.

To better answer the question would I choose a Taurus from what I have? No. A Tarus would not be the first thing I'd choose. It would not be the last thing I'd choose either. If it was "all I had" would I trust it? Well, if it was all I had, I'd pretty well have to, wouldn't I?

If I had to choose only one handgun for all possible uses from my current collection, then no, the one I would choose would be my Smith 657 4" but my second choice would be my Taurus 627 4". It would edge out my Smith 28 4", my Smith 19 4" and my Dan Wesson. Now if forced to shoot only factory ammo the Taurus would be my first choice because of the dearth of good 41 Mag ammo. Now with unlimited funds and I had to sell all my other handguns I leaning toward an engraved Colt Python with ivory grips or maybe a Lee Jurris Custom Automag. Or maybe one of my contenders if I can have unlimited barrels with only one frame. Course with unlimited barrels now the Dan Wessons look better maybe one of the 744s I own. OH MY

It has nothing do with whether the question is well written or poorly constructed. It is nevertheless a simple question: do you trust taurus to be your only handgun? What part of it dont you understand or disagree with? PM me and I can argue with you on that.

Back to topic....
Glad to see that people are voting one way or other. Seems like a close one.
However +1 ACE

it's an open ended question. I would TRUST ANY GUN, that I had no experience with, to be my only gun.

This thing is playing out like you are trying to encourage Taurus bashing.
ie:
However +1 ACE

If ya don't like Taurus, why do you care who does...ya have a vendetta against them. Like I said, I could care less. I won't carry any gun unless it's proven. My 2 are proven. But I have other choices that I'd make for reasons other than reliability.

Another way to answer. There are times I travel and take one handgun for SD. I typically rotate my choice. No reason other than I have a lot of guns. But, many times I am on a long trip and only have my Taurus as SD. At that point that Taurus is the only gun I own. And I obviously trust it for SD or I would not take it on the trip.

I bet others out there do similar carry. So if you chose to carry a particular gun without back-up, then for that time that is the only gun you have.

Firepower. I actually the question was very well posed. You forced the answers more in the yes/no area rather than debate about what level Taurus is compared to others.

Firepower-hopefully your +1 was for the comments I made before they got deleted by somebody! My contributions have vanished into thin air! I never thought I'd have to sugar coat my statements for gun enthusiasts, but oh well.

I keep going back to the same question as before. Nobody has given anything close to a good answer.

What makes Taurus as good or better than other guns on the market? I'm not talking about the one Taurus you have that shoots well. I'm talking about design advancements and reasons that makes them great overall. I'm talking about components that make it stronger, more reliable, and more durable. Is the metal they use stronger than other metals? Give me facts that show a new level of quality that would change my mind(It's going to be like convincing Trump to drive an Yugo, but give it a try). What makes Taurus more reliable than my Sig, Glocks, or Hk's? What is going to prevent them from chronic malfuntions, cracked slides, and undue wear?

The information is out there, the polls show how people feel about them, yet people close their eyes and put hands over their ears to it. This is not a personal attack on anyone so hopefully this time I was nice enough not to ruffle feathers.

If the Taurus happens to be my PT-92 then yes, I could make due with it as an "only" gun. It has proven itself.

My only qualms with it is that being a 9mm autoloader, I'm not comfortable with it for protection against dangerous 4 legged threats -- you know: bears, feral hogs and such. That isn't something that's just related to the gun being a Taurus but is a fault with all 9mms. The other has to do with the physical size of the gun -- it really isn't something that I'd care to carry as a CCW as an EDC. It's just too big for that. Not saying that it couldn't be done, but it isn't something that I'd choose for that purpose.

FWIW -- My personal choice for an "only" gun would be a medium frame .357 Mag revolver, 3" or 4" barrel -- like my 4" S&W 686. Even better than the L frame I've got would be a K frame for ease of carry. I don't have enough first hand experience with Taurus's offerings along those lines to make an informed choice whether or not I could accept one of those as an "only".

I would rather put my money on a S&W - Ruger - Colt - Sig. Long after the extra money is forgotten, you still have the gun. I've never owned one though.

I don't want to start an argument, but I just don't understand where this mistrust comes from. I only own one, but I inspected many different models before settling on the one I purchased. They all passed my detailed inspection. You're not getting a S&W or a collector's piece, but you're getting far more than a paperweight.
