following the First Rule

Please remember, and act on, the First Rule.

1) "HAVE A GUN"

Mr. WildSanctimonyAlaska simply offered his invited and solicited opinion, and must not be castigated for doing so (even if the delivery style upsets you, as I have been similarly pooped on for my style).
In those oh-so-famous words: "Lighten up, Francis". Ay?

This kind of reminds me of that one Steven King book, (The Lawnmower Man?) where the bad guys come and gun the guy down with Uzis as he mowing his lawn on a tractor. He reached for his snubby, but they had the drop on him and got him.

Then, the kid across the street, who had just finished cleaning his lever action 22 (Marlin, I think) sprung into action and drilled one of the bad guys in the head as they were making their escape, who later died in the van.

I guess the moral of that story is to carry more than a snubby if you're mowing your lawn. ;)

Smaug

It was Tom Clancy's book, "Clear and Present Danger" and the cop was dirty that's why the Colombians shot him.

Usually have a P3AT in my pocket even if I have my G26 on me. The Keltec doesn't get in the way when working in the yard, on the car, etc. My Spyderco C07 is also clipped on at SOB all the time.

This is why I bought a derringer. I often have it in my pocket while doing yard work or just sitting around outside in the sunshine. A derringer isn't the best in SD, but it's the easiest gun to carry in the world.

Carry my S&W 442 all the time; I sweat thinking about yard work; so, by the time the grass is actually mowed and trimmed revolver and I are pretty drenched.........I just have to remember to be dilligent about wiping it down and oiling it afterwards :)

Carry the same thing and have found holstered, pocket carry to be my preferred mode to carry while cutting grass. Usually wearing cotton, athletic style shorts(not gym shorts) with elastic, double snap, waistband, that have large pockets.

The pocket carry helps to keep the 'dusty gun' thing down to a minimum while the holster helps to keep the sweat off the gun as well.

They live there cause they have to
Not really, most folks get used to a place and hesitate to ever change.

I lived in town for a very short time, I saw kids sitting on the wal of an apartment complex smoking pot and drinking beer. My kid wanted to be allowed to go there and play with her friends.

We moved to the country. Cost wasnt so much, I found a nice place after looking for awhile. It wasnt as hard as some imagine it to be.

I mow with a tractor now :) and my dogs are out so I doubt if anyone could get close to me without me knowing it. Cant wait to get home, I love it, birds singing, no noise, no kids screaming, no dogs barking. Peacefull and relaxing.

I hate to go into the city now, everyone has a gun and many get shot there.

Dont move out hrere tho, stay where you are and keep them criminals there with ya :) it sucks out here, gets dark at night, no streetlites, wild animals all over the place...

In Wisconsin it is currently illegal to have a weapon out of a case or in your possession when you are in or on a vehicle. Tractors and lawn mowers qualify as vehicles. Yes, even in your own yard.

Governor is sloooooooooooowly signing the CC bill that will allow carry (open or concealed) of a handgun in or on a vehicle.

It's been illegal for decades to LEAN a rifle against a tire, bumper, fender or lay it on a vehicle.

It was reported recently in my neighborhood that a homeowner came out of his house to find a strange vehicle in his driveway. As he came out of his house the vehicle backed out and pulled away.

What if it hadn't, and someone had gotten out and rushed the homeowner? Would you rather be prepared to deal with the scenario immediately, or would you rather try to run and get back into your house, with someone coming after you?

Since the OP's question was about carrying during 'yardwork', that would entail more than just mowing the grass. Raking leaves/grass, working in the flower beds/garden, sweeping/cleaning street gutters in front of your house etc., would all seem to relate to 'doing yardwork'.

A few of the response's talked about the noise of a mower which may allow a thug to sneak up on you.

To those that have yards they maintain, what about carrying when doing these other type's of yardwork that doesn't involve the noise of running power equipment?

We have a few trees and bushes that need trimming/ pruning; have to get on a ladder and occasionally clean gutters......We had a huge tree limb snap during recent storm, had to cut it up with a bow saw; still packing doing all these chores; better to have it and not need it.........

Shortwave, thanks for the tip on pocket holster, I'd never thought of it, will give it a try......

I carry all the time, even inside the house. I don't have the luxury of
living way out in the country somewhere or in a state where the
population is small and dispersed. I wish I did.
I live in the Country through the Summertime, and I carry there always, just like anywhere else. I'm by carrying, like I'm by Insurance on my home. If I need it, I have it. If I don't, then I'm just that much better off. :)
BTW. I used my House Insurance when we had a Storm a few days ago, that took the roof off my house, and an adjoining storage building, and uprooted a big Pecan Tree across the storage Building. We just never know when we might need it.
