85 acres of property, so yeh, pretty much all of the time, whether I'm checking the fence line, taking a few noobs on a trail ride or telling the contractors building the new barn.... "Put the D*mn cigarette out, your smoking areas over there."

Especially the 3rd lately.

Middle aged gentleman is mowing frontyard grass. He's pushing his mower out by the sidewalk when a thug walking down the sidewalk gets next to him and blindsides him in the side of the head.
Guy falls to the ground and thug robs him. Hopefully this punks been picked up by now.

So tactically, what do you do? You are down, he grabs your wallet AND your gun too?

Maybe carrying isnt such a hot idea:rolleyes:

If I'm outside the house, I'm carrying. If I'm inside the house, there's at least one gun in every room.

I like to keep things simple.

I guess you could say that about carrying anywhere, eh?

Maybe when he was down, he could have got to his cc and stopped the threat?

Maybe this thug knocks him down, but not out then continues to beat on him till he kills him.
Maybe if he would have had a cc, he could have got to it when he was first knocked down and defended himself before he lost consciousness?

Guess there's lots of 'maybe's' in defending yourself.

I carry a lot, but I do not carry while doing yard work. I sweat way too much and usually wear basketball shorts and a t-shirt so that doesn't leave me much carry options.

Or maybe the guy would have grabbed his wallet, and the downed lawnmower man would have shot him while he ran away, or maybe lawnmower man popped a round into the guy to finish him off...

Ya got to look at both sides. Not every incident would be better served with a firearm

"Always" includes yard work. I carry anytime I'm outdoors, whether it's for work or fun. You never know when a pesky critter or something edible might show up.

Yard work means do a little, shoot a little, do a little, shoot a little.............

Sounds like what Burt Reynolds said about his hat in the movie where Boss Hogg chased him across 3 states-

"I only take it off for one thing."

If I'm not mistaken, when I Google'd "man attacked while mowing yard", there was a story of a fella that got attacked by coyote when mowing yard and another by a pitbull....and if you're a real good shot, another was attacked by a bat.

Actually, that's one of the times I feel my home is most vulnerable. You have the man of the house outside walking behind a loud engine, in a predictable pattern. Typically, one or more doors are unlocked and the garage door may be wide open.

Attackers could run up behind me and I wouldn't hear them. They could be inside the house as soon as I swing the mower out of sight. And anyone inside would be partially deafened by the mower and could be overwhelmed before they are aware of the invasion. Also if you keep loaded weapons near the door, the invaders will arm themselves if they weren't already armed.

That's when I had my first encounter, while I was cutting the lawn in the front of the home. I had made 3 or 4 passes when I look up and see this yute running in between the garages toward me with 4 LEO in hot pursuit on foot, when the yute see me, he paues, about that time a black & white shows up, out he comes, cocked and unlocked drawing down on the perp. then the foot LEO tackel him, and escort him to the cooler. Come to find out, he's a juvenile with a past records for B&E, or fellony home invasion, this one was done to senior citizen around the block from my residence. My being Armed played no roll in this of any way, but I got to see my tax dollars at work.

When I'am up at my Northern Michigan home cutting grass, it's 15miles back in the woods, there's electicity, no phone servive, and in a dead zone for cell service, help is a long way away, so I'am cocked and locked with a long gun close by, I am not going to be a statistic, just like in the Boy Scouts, be prepaired, thats my .02 cents woth, thanks for the time, be safe all ~~~><>

Well, while I gotta agree with Wild that not every situation requires a firearm, I, personally, can't tell which one will ahead of time.

I was repairing my front yard fence (steel) using a stick welder and had the hood down when I felt something grab my leg. I popped the hood up and found a maybe 40 lb. dog chewing on my left leg. I stuck the molten end of the rod in his left ear, he gave a yelp and departed the area. I was lucky, he didn't break the skin through my jeans.

That being said, I had a 30 year-old Charter Undercover in my pocket which, of course, I didn't need.

Hiring people has risks, as well. I once had a friend who hired a nice young couple to help him around his house. They killed him to get $ for drugs.

I still miss him from time to time and I still carry the Charter when I'm doing yard work.

I wish I lived where you live, but most of us don't.

My neighborhood was nice when I moved here. It ain't nice anymore. I've got heroin dealers in the high school, prostitution in the high school [no kidding], Bloods, Crips, MS-13ers, the whole nine yards. I had to send my son some 100 miles away to school. Yes, I'm armed when I cut the lawn, and I keep my friggin' head up. God, sometimes I feel like the Clint Eastwood character in Gran Torino, absent the racial slurs.
