So, how many carry doing yard work?

Yep, don't do a lot of yard work anymore. I have a friend that mows and weeds for me since I can't do it because of my back injury. When I have to do some, I have my Glock 23 in the Serpa on my hip. The only times I do not have a gun ON me is when I am sleeping, in the shower or enjoying recreational time with my wife:D even during those times, my guns are a mere foot or so away.

Nope. No poisonous snakes, no violent crime in the area, and doing yardwork means I'm using some pretty nasty weapons as it is.

This: Carrying while outside on your property; Rational. You have a firearm to defend yourself and your property, what difference does it make if you are outside or inside?

This: "Ever since that scene - my situational awareness is so high, I even carry when I take a shower."

..headline for the next edition of "Crazyville"..

So, how many carry doing yard work?
I carry just about everywhere I go these days. Recently, I realized I never carry while doing yard work or other outside chores. Even if I have a gun on me, I take it off before starting the work. I sweat A LOT in the summer doing yard work so that may be part of the reason but I don't carry even in cooler weather for some reason I can't quite explain.

So, of those who usually carry when out and about, how many of you carry or don't carry when doing yard work or other work outside the house?

I had always carried around the house because walking trash is just a couple of miles away from our development. My wife wasn't always a believer being armed around the house, however, she has changed her mind recently, after she saw a coyote by our pond as we were driving off one day. My neighbor also mentioned to us that she had a coyote running through our yards at 7.30 in the morning. There's also been coyote turds and remnants of rabbits & ducks around our property. Now our cat is now afraid to go outside

Soooo, both my wife and I both carry even when just doing yardwork...for both the two and four legged predators.

I live in the middle of the woods and can hear traffic from a long ways off, so I do not carry in the yard all the time. I do carry part time in the yard but if I go into the back part of my 80 acres I strap on the 44mag.

I do, but as stated here I carry a stainless. Resists corrosions. Had a little trouble with sweat on the pancake holster so went to a fiberglass blackhawk.

I carry when working in the yard or working on the cars or motorcycles. I frequently have to strip the gun down that evening to wipe the internals and clear any loose crap that may have gotten in there but I love cleaning guns so it's no biggie.

I also leave a gun on the bathroom counter just outside the shower under the towel. Easily accessible. Just as long as I don't have soap in my eyes when a BG taps on the shower door! :D

Interesting responses so far. Let me just clarify my non-carrying around the yard. I don't consciously say, I'm going to get sweaty, so leave it inside. I'm just trying to figure out if this is what I'm thinking subconsciously. Maybe I just feel safe in the neighborhood, though I know even a good neighborhood is not safe in this day and age.

And it's not like I don't have options. I have stainless, polymer, alloys, big ones, small ones, etc. I'm beginning to re-think what I've been doing. Maybe this is the life purpose of my LCP, to ride around the pocket of an overweight, middle-aged guy mowing grass and killing wasps. :D

I often carry a 12 ga while mowing on my tractor, I take shots at stuff while I am turning. I use my knees to steer........

I hardly ever carry. Guns are usually nearby though.

Funny this topic came up.

It was either last week or week before, there was an incident that happened here in either Chillicothe or Circleville Ohio that was caught on camera that aired on our local news.

Middle aged gentleman is mowing frontyard grass. He's pushing his mower out by the sidewalk when a thug walking down the sidewalk gets next to him and blindsides him in the side of the head.
Guy falls to the ground and thug robs him. Hopefully this punks been picked up by now.

I live in the middle of the woods and mow 4-5acres. Never know who might wonder through. I carry when I'm outside mowing or not.

Just looked news film up Googling: "man attacked mowing yard"

Guess it was Chillicothe Ohio.

Also if you just google "man attacked mowing lawn/yard", you may be suprised of the stories.

I don't do yard work as my front yard doesn't really require maintenance. I do, however, carry a snub when washing the car. Lately, home invasions have been mentioned more and more often in the local paper's police blotter.

If I lived in an area where I thought the prudent thing to do was to carry my gun while doing yard work on my own property - I'd get the hell out.

dajowi,

Unless you live in a heavily guarded/gated communtiy, you better start packing your boxes.

Too, the tougher our economy gets the worse things will get.

While mowing since at times it takes me close to the road: Large frame 4" stainless revolver in a too small ( but strapped in secure ) holster to make it clear not to bother stopping by.

At other times LCR in a all covered up except for the grip holster for more discreet carry.

The only time I take mine out of the holster when working, is if I'm crawling or rolling around, like under a Vehicle, working on it.

I get up, put on my pants and gun and carry all day long. I go to bed, take off my pants and put the gun in the drawyer. So yes, I carry when I do yard work, when I work on the car, when I grow grocery shopping, and when I do everything else.
