Thank you much!
Assuming you took the numbers off the bottom of the grip butt and there were no letter prefixs (C,D or K), 595XXX would make it a 38 Military and Police, Model of 1905, 4th Change. Serial numbers ran from 241704 in 1915 to 758296 in 1942.Would someone be able to help me determine the year of my 6-shooter?
My grandfather just left it to me in his will.
The srial number is 595xxx
1986.a) .38 Special
b) 1 7/8" bbl
c) Round butt
d) 5 shot
e) Fixed
f) Serial #AHL81XX
g) Mod. 36
The "change" number refers to engineering changes made to the gun during it years of production. The original Model of 1905 ran from 1905 to 1906, the 1st change from 1906 to 1909, 2nd also ran from 1906 to 1909 with minor changes, 3rd from 1909 to 1915 and 4th from 1915 to 1942.Yeah, no prefixes.
Just 595xxx on the bottom of the butt grip in the metal!
It's got a really cool extremely old looking leather holdster too.
What's 4th change mean?
Is it worth a lot of money?
Or worth more keeping as a family heirloom?
Is it Antiques Roadshow worthy?
Or more like just personally cool in the family?

Unfortunately there is a big gap at that serial number range.Any idea about what month in 1986 it might be?

AHC in Jan 86 to AVB in July 87 is as close as the book gets. But I would guess that AHL would be pretty early in 86.

March 2000.Hello to all. First post and a question - can you tell me the production year of S&W 686-5, 2,5" barrel, № CEA47XX ?
Serial numbers ran from H60001 in 1972 to H99999 in 1976.Please tell me the year of this .325 caliber S&W pistol my father had. The serial number is H811**.
Serial numbers ran from S811120 in 1945 to S999999 in 1948.I know more about colts than S&Ws and i've been offered to buy a 'model 10' and I'm not quite sure it is what the guy thinks. he's describing it as a Smith&Wesson 5 screw 38 Special. SR# S975XXX with a pinned barrel.
a) .38 special

d) 5 shot
e) Standard, non-adjustable sites

Did you get the serial number from the bottom of the grip butt? If it says Model 10 on the frame there should be a "C" or "D" with the SN.I have just aquired a model 10, 5 screw S&W 38 special. I would like to know when it was manufactured, Serial no. is 123xxx. no letter. any information is appreciated.
