Smith and Wesson serial number search

Yes Jim, both are 6 shots and also both engraving of "32 Winchester CTG"

1st gun s/n = 197xx , has a patient date ending Dec 07.01
2nd gun s/n = 252xx , has a patient date ending Jul 07.03
1st gun is a .32-20 Hand Ejector model of 1905. Serial numbers ran from 18126 in 1905 to 22426 in 1906.
2nd gun is same model but a "1st Change". Serial numbers ran from 22427 in 1906 to 33500 in 1909.

Jim, On the 2991xx, the 36 (model) is stamped on the fore strap. What's interesting is you can see the 6 has been stamped over a 2 and to the right of that you can see a - something was ground off. Would it be a good assumption considering the change from the model 32 I frame (improved) to the 36 that there was an overlap and some 32's were re-stamped 36?

The serial number is too high for a model 32. Could you post or email some pictures?

Jim

Jim, Here's about the best picture I can come up with. It's hard to see with just a picture, but it clearly is a 6 restamped over a 2. To the right of that you can see the remains of a dash something that was ground off. I think this was a case of either a miss stamp or a left over 32 frame restamped. Just an oddity, and I have no doubt it was done at Smith & Wesson vs later...

Here's what it looks like with the 2 drawn in.

Hello! I have a minty 15-4 Masterpiece SN K3994xx. Any idea of the year of making? Also I know you don't usually but is this generally worth $500, $1000 etc. Highest Regards and thanks.

I believe you are looking at a 1960 birthdate with that serial number. Value wise I would look at Gunbroker and see what they are going for there. It's usually a good indication and don't just look at asking, look or monitor a few to see what they eventually sell for. I'd say your looking more at the $500 end than the $1000.

Your SN would date to 1960 but not likely a -4. The dash 4 ran from 1977 to 1982.

I have a SN C3954XX
.38 Military & Police made in 1956.

Supercub99,

It's hard to tell from the pic what the original model number was but I agree it was likely miss-stamped or a previously stamped then reused.

Thanks for the info, my next question if this is the right forum I need a replacement cylinder stop plunger and spring and also the screw that holds these in, any ideas where I would find these parts my revolver is a 1956 M&P

old S&W

Hello, I have a 5 screw .38 sp. snubby. Its a K frame. Serial # on the butt is 433170....inside the crane and on the crane is #65308..there is no model designation. A pre 10 I would guess, M&P? I have had the revolver next to where I sleep for over 30 years, and have allways wondered when it was made. Thanks in advance. As long as I am here, Mod 37, no dash, flat latch, j frame ser.#197334 .

Around the mid 1920's.

Mod 37, no dash, flat latch, j frame ser.#197334 .
All the book shows is 125000 in 1957 to 295000 in 1962 so my best guess is 59, possibly 60, I think, yeah... pretty sure...
