Smith and Wesson serial number search

what about a model 10-6 ? "C6585xx" on the butt & "D039xx" in front of the cylinder - just noticed that tonight. are non matching numbers unusual?
C6585XX = 1963/64.
When you say D039XX is in front of the cylinder are you refering to it's stamped on the frame or on the actual cylinder?

Jim

thank you very much - '63 or '64 sounds like good years for +P ammo

its "on the yoke" below the model # , only visible with cylinder in the open position

While we're on the subject, I have an older 4" K frame I've been curious about. Markings are as follows:

Below cyl release: S&W Trademark logo
Right Side:
Barrel: 38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG
Frame: MADE IN U.S.A.
Top:
Barrel: SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A (no period visible after the "A")

Butt: 582xxx (in different, poorly aligned stamping: 6683)
Cylinder face: same 582xxx as butt.

You have a 38 Military and Police Model of 1905, 4th Change.
They were made from 1915 at SN 241704 thru 1942 at SN 1000000.
With your SN of 582XXX I'm guessing 1920's.

I put a Smith mdl 37 airweight on layaway today. I'm very excited about this little dude. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow! Can you help with the year it was made and whether +p is okay in this?

ser # is 408xxx..

Thanks!

Best regards,

Chuck

295000 started 1962 till 786544 at 1969, so about 1965ish.
Because it's a alloy frame it is not recommended for +P. However, many folks have used +p with no ill effects.

Thank you. I enjpoyed the 90's and am glad a couple of its guns caught up to me. I'd bet you have a handkerchief near by when you sit down to date the guns here. Much appreciated.

pre war m and p

serial 139xxx six inch bar was reading my new g and a saw old smith and said hey ive got one of those was my dads good shooter, any idea on what it might be worth?

I could use help with my gun serial # N626xxx. I'm not sure on the exact model because the gun was heavily modified prior to my purchase
1979/80. The model number should be stamped on the frame just forward of the cylinder. You'll have to open the cylinder to see it.

38 M&P model of 1905, 1st change. Made from 1906 to 1909. Value depends on condition.

What is that?

Thanks. That's in line with what I was guessing. Unfortunately, granddad didn't leave much in the way of notes, so all I know is that he was pretty accurate with it, and it still shoots great. I keep it on a diet of relatively light loads, and clean it well after each range trip, as I suspect he did, (I sometimes think he shot mostly to have an excuse to clean and oil the guns again) so the finish still looks good.

Hi everyone, new here just registered. Doing a search on a piece that is old for me. I got it after my father-in-law passed away. Hope you can help. Its a Smith&Wesson 22 long rifle 6 inch revolver 279xxx Thanks in advance. "wannalearn".

Just picked up a 3913, s/n VJN89XX, stamped, not laser etched. Anybody know the DOB for this one? Thanks!

"K" 279XXX would be 1956. Known as the "K22 Masterpiece" they went on to become the Model 17 when S&W started assigning model numbers in 1958.

Unfortunantly, the "book" only covers their auto pistols up to 1998. A call to S&W customer service will get you a DOB over the phone for free.
