Smith and Wesson serial number search

A model 36 with serial BNS4*** is from the early '80s, correct? I think this one may be unfired.
1993.
Grips are not original.

BTW, if that is the original box the the 4 digit "special order code" would be the date it was packed/shipped. Example: 3060 would be 60th day of 1993.

Thanks. The grips are Pachmayr. I assumed because the box lists Stock: "RB" that they were original, although it seemed odd that they don't have a S&W logo.

The book shows S&W going to Uncle Mikes grips in 1994. Prior to that was wood grips. "RB" can also stand for "round butt".
BTW, the box shows the packing date as Nov 6 1992. So, the early 1993 date was likely when it shipped.

Need a date for a Model 10

I got a old Model 10 (I think) after my grandfather passed. The serial number is C 3576xx. Can anyone tell me an approximate date of manufacture. Also is it a Model 10? M&P?
Thank you.

The serial number is C 3576xx
Serial numbers an from C277555 in 1954 to C402923 in 1956.
It would be a .38 Military & Police which became the model 10 when S&W began model numbers around 1957.

Hello everyone, I wondering if yall could help me with the date of manufacture (approximate) for two Smith's that were left to me by my grandfather. I have scoured the internet but to no avail.

686-1 S# AYH0018
64-3 S# 26528

Thank you so much.

model 25-2 sn N805xxx
The N8xxxxx range ran from 1980 to 1983.

686-1 S# AYH0018, 64-3 S# 26528
AYH00xx = 1987
26528 = This is an assembly number. Take the serial number from the underside of the grip butt. You may have to remove the grips to see it.
It will be 7 digits and will have either a "D" as the second digit or three letters followed by four numbers. Post #7158 (17 before this one) has a picture with the SN location.

M36-7 inheritence

Mother left me a fine M36-7 has Hogue rubber grip. She had it loaded with Win Silvertip +P's. Can someone point me to where I can find a mfg. date for this BPW87XX serial number and if it's +P rated. I want my wife to use it for CC.

Should be the very end of 1993 or very early 1994.

Smith & Wesson states that unless otherwise directed -- any .38 Special revolver with a model number (1957 or later) is safe for use with SAAMI-spec .38 Special +P.

Hey all,

Picked up a nice 686 no dash at the gunshow today. Sn AHS74xx, anybody able to nail down a date of manufacture?
