Smith and Wesson serial number search

Need a little help with serial number plzzz

I acquired a little sweetener in a trade for this smith and Wesson 38spc but can't seem to find this serial number or model number anywhere online can someone please help me identify the type and year it was made and perhaps a value on it? Serial number c91584 and the model number or at least I think that's what it is ..34842 thanks everyone

Serial number c91584
Serial numbers ran from C1 in 1948 to C223998 in 1951.
It would be a .38 Military & Police. When S&W began using model numbers starting ~1957 it would become the model 10 if it's all steel or a model 12 if it had an aluminum frame.
The other numbers are assembly/inspector numbers.

I have a Smith and Wesson 32 top break hammerless revolver from my grandfather. He was a Army Captain in the OSS during WW II, working with partisans and counter-insurgency. He apparently took this off a German officer, along with a awesome Walther PP... the S & W must have been the officer's CCW weap. Anyways, appears to be in remarkable decent condition and was wondering about manufacturing date and value.

Serial number is 4903x Also has a bunch of patent dates stamped on top of barrel (dating from 1880 to 1885).

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Not a lot to go on. S&W reused the same serial numbers across several model lines so first I have to figure out the model. See pic below for serial number location. Include any prefixes if there are any. Also, what is the actual chambering, 45 ACP, 45 Colt, etc. And I assume it's a modern swing out cylinder gun?

.32 Safety Hammerless 1st Model. Serial numbers ran from 1 in 1885 to 91417 in 1902. Serial number 53252 was August 1894 so yours predates that.
I'm not really up on values of antique guns but the book (as of 2006) shows anywhere from $200 in good to over 1K in as new.

My apologies, Jim, for the scant info. This is what I think (but don't know):

I believe it to be a 45 Hand Ejector Model of 1917.

It is a commercial model (with S&W medallions and no military markings), not Brazilian contract, and made sometime prior to the hammer block addition.

It is stepped to headspace the .45ACP and should also chamber the .45RIM.

No moon clips were offered with it and it has no lanyard ring (although the hole is there for it). It is an interesting gun, to me, so I paid the asking price and took it home. I had time to take only one pic.

It is marked DA 45 on the right side of the barrel, S&W etc, with patent marking on the top of the barrel, and Smith & Wesson on the left side of the barrel. The underside of the barrel (under the ejector rod) is marked with the serial number and, separate from the serial number, but nearby, a diamond with an S.

All serial numbers match; frame (marked on the butt), cylinder, and barrel. There is no prefix.

Don't know when it was made (although probably sometime between 1938 and 1948) nor what the value might be (which interests me for long-term collector status and support for my wife, if I decide to cross over before she does :D). So, I would be interested in learning what I could about it.

Addendum: There are some quite tiny markings on the frame under the crane where later model numbers were placed. I haven't yet been able to read them.

Thanks, again.

Will

psyfly,

It is a Model 1917. The first run made for the military ran from SN 1 in 1917 to ~169959 in 1919. The first Brazilian run in 1938 involved SN's 181983 to 207043. The book shows serial number 180445 shipped in Feb. 1929 so I would guess yours would be pretty close to that.

I have recently acquired my first Smith and Wesson reolver 66-2 prefix ABY and was wondering about the date if if someone could help that would be much appreciated.

S&W serial #77xx its marked as a 44sp DA top break
Not going to be of much help here but serial numbers ran from 1 in 1881 to 54668 in 1913 for models in 44 Russian and 1 in 1886 to 15340 in 1913 for models in 44-40 Win. (44 WCF / 44 Win. ctg.).
