Smith and Wesson serial number search

Just picked up a S&W M&P (pre model 10 I believe) and struggling to date it. S/N 370xxx
370XXX would date it around early 1920's.
It did become the model 10 when S&W began model numbers around 1957.
It actually should have a 4th side plate screw hidden behind the grip.
I just wanted to add to Jim's note -- his suggestion that it is from the early 1920's is very much supported by the one that I own that is factory lettered.

Mine bears SN 357xxx and S&W historian Mr. Roy Jinks tells me that S&W shipped it on May 30, 1921. Yours with a 370xxx "should" be late 1921 or early 1922. Keeping in mind that S&W didn't always do everything in a predictable fashion. ;)

Looking for a date on my revolver.

First time posting.

I have my first S&W. It has been in family for a long time and i am looking to get some more info on it. An approximate manufacturing date would be great. S/n is 235XX

Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield break-top .44 or at least that is what i believe it is from doing some research. It has an 8" Barrell and is 13.5" in total length

I've inherited a S&W Model 10-5. The serial number is D2310XX. It is also brightly finished; since it doesn't seem to be stainless is this more likely to be nickel or chrome?

Thanks for any help

Hi Jim, I have 3 I would appreciate you confirming dob for me.

Mod. 36 Chief, 29991xx original box and a set of KB grips in addition.

Mod. 37 Chief, J9999xx

M&P S9927xx

Regards and thanks for your doing this.

Kurt

Just inherited two Smith and Wesson revolvers. A .32 long CTG serial# 4226xx and a .38 S&W SPL serial# 1667xx. Any information on these would be greatly appreciated.

1970 and if a factory finish it would be nickel.

Mod. 37 Chief, J9999xx
M&P S9927xx
299991xx = you have one too many digits but assuming 299xxx it would be 1962.
J9999xx = 1982.
S9927xx = 1948.

.32 long CTG serial# 4226xx and a .38 S&W SPL serial# 1667xx.
I believe the 32 would be a .32 Hand Ejector 3rd Model made around the mid 1920's.
Assuming the 38 is a 6 shot it would be a .38 Military & Police Model of 1905, 3rd Change made around 1910.
If the 38 is a 5 shot then it would be a Chiefs Special made around 1959.

The correct serial is 29913x

Thank You Sir!

K38 date of manufacture?

I just picked up a Model 14 (K38), in really nice condition. Serial number is: K366xxx. Can someone give me the date?

Quote:
Serial number is: K366xxx
1959.
Serial numbers ran from K350548 to K386804 that year.

Thank you. I knew it was a old one...it has a screw and plunger through the front of the frame to hold the cylinder stop in place.
