Smith and Wesson serial number search

My dad has an old Smith & Wesson 38 S&W Special that belonged to his uncle. he would like to know its DOB. The serial number on the butt is C541XXX. Thanks for any help you can give!

Date of manufacture please. Serial number starts with C219XXX
Pinned barrel. Non-recessed cylinder. No model number that I can see.

1948-1951. I cant tell by the pics, but the book says it is either a Model 10, 11, 12, 45, or Aircrewman and their pre-model variations.

Just to add, it appears the barrel is stamped .38 S&W Spl. (Special). That knocks out the pre model 45 and 11. The frame is steel so that knocks out pre model 12. The SN puts it at the end of production in 1951 so that makes it a .38 Military and Police (postwar) which went on to become the model 10 when S&W started stamping model numbers ~1958.

Info on 2 please;
Mod 10-5, C717XXX

Old hand ejector with a list of patent dates on the top of the barrel, the last one being Dec.17, 01 and 32 Winchester CTG on the side of the barrel. The 5553 is on the inside in the same location as the 10-5 for the other gun SN on the bottom of the grip is 109XX

Thanks!

Hello - I'm looking for a production date of a mod 60 serial R141xxx smith in cal 38 w/ 2". Also, can anyone give me feedback on the weight difference between this one and a newer 442/637 model? THanks in advance! Great site here!

1974 to 77 range.
The earlier 60's are ~21 oz. The 442/637's are 15 oz. The difference being a steel vs. aluminum frame.

What caliber and/or model# is it? The top breaks are a little tougher to ID.

I have a Smith and Wesson model 60 S/N 54834. The barrel only says 38 S.&W. SPL. Can anybody tell me year it was made and whether +P ammo is safe? I think I have it narrowed down to between 1965-1988 but somebody who actually knows would be appreciated. Thanks

Take the serial number from the underside of the frames grip butt. It should have either an "R" prefix or a three letter prefix.
97J*** which is a .38,
1971/72.
