S&W Issues Recall for Walther PPK/PPKs Models

I told the guy on the phone my anger wasn't directed at him but rather whoever up there in charge has done a crappy job of this recall and told him to pass that along as well as about losing a customer.......

What tha?!!!!!!!

I am not a big time guy like some of you guys, I just love the sport and just like shooting.
As you all know my gun has been in S&W's hot little hands for over six months. I sent it back to get the slide tightened, then the recall came along, and all went to H**L. In the beginning of the recall (months ago), I asked the question....what is the recall for? I was given the answer it was a skeletonized safety. Does this affect all the Walther guns? As time has passed S&W has changed "horses" numerous times....no straight forward answer! There are so many mixed answers on the threads, no good info there either.
I know the gun is complicated, but with all the Expert Knowledge and Connections I see on these threads, can someone give me a definitive answer? What is the problem with the Walther PPK/S? What is the recall about, what are they fixing and is the S&W different from all previous Walther's (are they fixing an old problem)?

They are repairing the safty/decock mechanism so that the gun does not fire when you use the decock to lower the hammer. When I called, the guy on the phone also mentioned they were still working on guns received in January and when I asked why, since the recall came out in late February, he replied that any of the guns that came in for some other reason are being fixed as well. Who knows if this includes yours?? If they had yours for 6 months that is uncalled for as well. You should call them and demand some answers, but who knows if you will get a corect one. S&W doesn't have a clue about what they are doing!

Has anybody (gunsmith?) compared the inside safties and hammer drop of the S&W and Interarms to see the differances? This seems simple.

It's the same decocking mechanism they've been using since the PPK was invented, it's always been a weakness in the design. I'm no happier than anyone else, especially since my gun is a PPK and not a PPK/S which seems to mean my gun will be there much longer than S&W originally told me, but I can't fault S&W for recalling the gun to fix a potential safety issue, especially in this lawsuit-happy world we live in now.

Well, while we're here

This may or may not be the time to ask the question, but how did you guys decide whether to buy the PPK or the PPK/S? As for me, I wasn't real sure about the differences, but I knew the PPK was once banned under the old laws, and the PPK/S was the "answer" to the ban. Fearing another ban, I bought the PPK/S. I know the PPK is for the "purist," and is one round smaller. Any other reasons why you guys chose what you did?

I like the way the PPK looks just a bit more (proportions of upper and lower, wrap grip - - makes for what I consider one of the best looking guns ever made) and it is slightly more concealable. That said, I like the way the PPK/S feels in my hand (especailly with my Hogue grips). So I wend with the PPK/S.

Based on how the recall is going for those of you with a PPK, I feel like I shouldn't complain but I emailed them 2 weeks ago and they said "1-2 weeks" and I emailed them today and they said "1-2 weeks." It's like I'm stuck in PPK purgatory.

I originally picked the ppk for it's slightly smaller size and ease of using as a pocket pistol. But since all this mess with S&W I have replaced it with a Sig 232 that feels better, shoots better to me than the ppk did, and is as easy to conceal.

Potentially a Yay!

I finally called S&W customer service yesterday to see if I could get any info. When I told the gal who answered that my pistol was received at end of March she asked the S/N, checked, and said it was done, due to go out Fed Ex 2nd day air that day. If so, I should get it (at least the notice) Monday. As the Fed Ex office is a block from where I work, easy to pick up. Here's hoping!

I'm glad to hear some are finally getting back to their owners. What a nightmare! I'm glad I have waited to send my PPK/S back so far. I think I'll wait a couple more months.

Rex, I don't know if 2 more months would be the best. It might just be at a time when they get the springs for the PPKs! The best time (unforetellable) would be as the PPK/S line winds down, but before the PPK springs come in. Good luck!

It is a Yay!

I have the Fed Ex 'door tag' in my wallet and have my PPK/S being held. I work only about a block from the Fed Ex center so I should be able to pick it up this morning. S&W received it March 30, so the better part of 3 months to get it back, but at least it is here.

My PPK/s was shipped back on Wednesday. I finally picked it up from UPS last night. It looks great.

The work papers indicate that they replaced the decock and polished the feed ramp as well. Hopefully there is a steady stream of them coming back in now.
