S&W Issues Recall for Walther PPK/PPKs Models

I've had lots of issues with WWB. My PPK/s runs FMJ and JHP just fine, but won't run with any flat-nosed round.

I've had at least a 10-15% failure rate with WWB. Since I switched to Federal and PRVI (each of which is a round nose FMJ) the gun has run really well.

If PRVI runs well for you too, you might be having the same issue as me.

new ppk/s

just bought a ppk/s, hoped it would be fine because it came with a letter from s&w and the repair stamp, speer gold dot's jammed at least 3 times, same mag, i've been told that in general semi-autos, and especially ppk's were not made for hollow point(flat nosed) ammo... aguila fmj ammo's been running fine through mine.

when I had my ppks, the only hollowpoints available were reloads with the old speers with the exposed lead. they would not function but the pistol was completely reliable with ball. Same with older PPKs of wartime vintage. My stainless ppk american had been chamber throated and functioned fine with commercially loaded hollow points from the major sources and this seems to have been normal with ppks from that period.
It sounds like s&w took care of the safety issues on your gun and maybe satisfied themselves that it is functional with ball ammunition.

PPK/s

My favorite gunshop had a used S&W PPK/s on the shelf yesterday. I looked, and it had the recall punch on it.

I had not logged into the forums for some time. I was surprised to see this post. I just checked my serial number and mine is affected too. I have requested the shipping supplies.

After reading all of the issues everyone else is having I sincerely hope that I do not suffer any of the same issues. I will have to keep my fingers crossed I guess.

Received Mine Back Today

I received mine back from S&W today. The barrel is dirty, I assume from the polishing of the feed ramp. The included repair document says they polished the ramp and repaired the decock lever assembly. I will have to take it to the range soon to make sure all is well, but it was a quick turnaround. I shipped it out on Saturday and received it back the next Friday.

Well I finally broke down and sent in my PPK/S On 3-19-10. It was delivered to Smith and Wesson on 3-23-10. Signed for by K. Barton. We will see how long the turn around is. When I spoke with someone at S&W they told me around 3 weeks. I waited this long because of the stories on here of ridiculous wait times. Just couldn't bare to have it sit there for months.

Fed Ex delivered my PPK/S Monday April 5th. Thats a 15 day turn around total, not too bad. Letter said they "polish ramp of bbl" and "repair decock lever sys." Serviced by Houlton repairman 1. Haven't taken it to the range yet, hope it works!

My ppk/s does the same thing. It loves HP but it is not running 100% with FMJ. I always thought it was strange. If it did not feed HP properly I would not own it.

My "new" PPK/S, sent back for recall work...

I just bought a Walther PPK/S, manufactured by S&W, in 2006. It had been kept in a safe since my friend purchased it and he put less than 50 rounds through it. He never sent it in for recall work, so I did last Friday. Fedex shows that the pistol was received and signed for today, so we'll see how long this takes. As soon as I get it back, my wife and I will take it to the range and compare it to my Manurhin PP from 1953, that we both love. My wife currently carries a Ruger LCP and she does not like the recoil, slide bite on the web of her hand and her tendency to "limp wrist' it.

I'll post updates, when appropriate... Thanks!
