Rudy Guiliani ahead in Republican nomination race

Voting for Nader is a hell of a sabotage tactic for undermining the Democratic party. I tossed one his way in 2000 because it was the only line I could mark on the ballot that would have any impact on anything in the long-term...

Illinois makes you get creative if you want to go against the grain.

I wish Pat Buchannan would run again.:D

In my opinion we have major problems facing our country, loss of manufacturing, outsourcing, medical care, selling of our highways to foreign investors, uncontrolled borders, and on top of this a dying middle-class, it now requires two incomes in larger number of families to just survive. We need a new direction and I do not see either party brave enough to step up to the plate and take a stand.

Rudy has said he supports the 2nd Amendment, but also thinks guns are a bad idea in a heavily concentrated urban environment like NYC. He really did clean up NYC, and he has the balls to stand up to the rest of the world if need be to fight terrorism. He believes in low taxes and more individual freedom. While I would much prefer the gun views of Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo, neither of those guys have a chance to gain the nomination. I personally believe that if he gets the Republican nomination, he will not push for gun control so that he can gain the support of the NRA and most pro gun voters. Don't fool yourself about Hilary or Obama, both believe that you have absolutely no right to own, let alone carry firearms and both would actively work to take your guns away. Both are big government socialists who hide their positions so as to seem more reasonable to the middle. I think Rudy will be good for America, and will likely not get into gun issues if he can possibly avoid it. If you don't like Rudy, you could just support Hilary or Barack by wasting your vote on the Libertarians or some other fringe, powerless third party.

I read the reviews.
Can anyone come up with any event of such immensity as 9/11, where the person in charge did not make some mistakes?
I was there.
I know people that worked closely with him.
The guy was outstanding and did his best.
The facts and aftermath speak for themselves.
If he runs, he's got my vote.

I hate to disagree with you, but I was there, too. I lived in New York when this happened and members of my family were called upon to volunteer at Ground Zero. I went to high school with two of the firemen who were killed. Not to open a can of worms - and any talk of that terrible day IS a can of worms, on any forum - but Giuliani's poor planning prior to 9/11 severely limited the resources - namely, police and firefighters - needed to properly deal with the situation. It seemed to me then and it seems to me now that Giuliani was more concerned with the ramifications of losing New York's hallowed business district than anything else. Instead of being deified for his heroism, he should be condemned for his negligence, which is why I'm glad this book exists. He's no more a hero in the face of tragedy than FEMA as far as I'm concerned.

If it comes down to Giuliani's or Hillary, I'll vote for the Giulian anyday! Last thing "WE" need is her back in the white house !

Just remember ! that when your voting for a 3rd party can,

Why does everyone think in terms of an election 'coming down' to only two people? I know it sounds like a broken record around here (even if that particular broken record is very refreshing to my ears!), but it's that kind of tunnel vision that will keep this bipartisan cycle of "bad" and "slightly worse" going and going. If this upcoming election shapes up the way it looks like it's going to - like the last one, a strict lose / lose prospect - it would be the grandest of all opportunities to send a clear message!

I personally won't vote for anyone who's wimpy on the 2nd Amendment, tax reform, or immigration. Period. You can cut your losses all you like, but you're likely to regret it in the long run.

Mistakes were definately made, but he, and everyone involved, did a graet job regardless.
Can you imagine if it were Dinkins!!!

"Americas Mayor"? why, because he happened to be the mayor of N.Y.C. when a horrible tragedy occured?

It will take more than that to get my vote.

I am hoping Tom Tancredo runs myself.

Lets face the facts, all states, cities, towns are run by clerks that are never seen, mayors, govenors are just the ones in the lime lite. when things go good, they're there to take the credit, when things go wrong, someone is blamed and fired..
it looked to me like the operation was run by firemen and police officers, they were the heros.
people calling a mayor an American Hero just because he was in office when the SHTF have their head in the sand..

I noticed some of those stating that thye would vote for a third party mention Nader. The man who was completely aghast that people would put laws in place against gun confiscation by the government.

Like Das Boot, I too was there. I lost friends, and I lost family. I will never forget.
I don't care what he runs for, Rudy has my vote. Thank God he was there when we needed his kind of leadership. I can't help but remember that while Rudy was crawling around in the midst of the destruction at ground zero, another of our leaders was flying around at 40,000 feet in Air Force One looking for a safe place to land. I'll take Mr. Guiliani's guts and leadership any day. Lead, follow, or get the ++++ out of the way.
I need say nothing more.

Let's face it- in '08 we will get to "choose" between the parasites picked for us by the elites of both parties. The Dems vs. the Reps is the Evil Party vs. the Stupid Party. It's like choosing between gonorrhea and chlamydia. They all suck. As far as voting 3rd party- those who voted for Perot put Willie the Lecher in office. I am completely disgusted and depressed over the potential candidates. None who have a chance are worth the contents of the cat box, minus the litter. Just when I think the People can't be presented with a more dismal slate of candidates I am proven wrong. Once again, I will have to vote against the lying tapeworm I despise more than the other because if I don't vote I have no right to bitch about the results. If voting made any difference it would be illegal.

revjen45,
Cynical, colorful, and apt. But if I may...

A large part of the reason that the worthy candidates don't have a chance is the collective belief that they don't have a chance. Why don't you consider joining one of the two majors and supporting someone you actually want to vote for?

I'm with revjen45; it's basically come down to picking the lesser of two evils. Though, I WILL vote for a candidate if I believe in their politics, regardless of whether they can win or not. I am very thankful I have that choice.

I could also care less whether they are Dem/Rep/Ind. IMO, anyone who votes strictly based on party lines, no matter which side, is a fool, plain and simple. Too many sheeple in this country is, IMO, the reason we are in the predicament we find ourselves in.

As far as Clinton or Giulliani; I wouldn't vote for either one of them.

It's like choosing between gonorrhea and chlamydia.

I always liked Dennis Miller's take on it; it's like choosing between the 1:00AM showing of Beastmaster on TNT or the 1:05AM showing of Beastmaster 2 on TBS.

In principle, I fully agree.
But what do you actually gain by voting for someone that doesn't have the remoteset chance of winning?
I'd vote 3rd party too if the candidate was so phenominal that he/she just MIGHT win.
Unfortunately, with something as serious as voting, I'd much rather help the candidate I don't like rather than help the candidate I hate.

This country needs some sort of election reform, and soon. I'm a fan of instant-runoff, personally. But nothing else will ever allow a third-party candidate to win. And if there's one thing I think we need in our presidential elections, it's more than two "viable" options. '04 was a nightmare.

Rudy has said he supports the 2nd Amendment, but also thinks guns are a bad idea in a heavily concentrated urban environment like NYC.

Yeah, this is a common view among moderates regarding gun control; basically that it shouldn't really be touched at the national level, because what's needed/appropriate in NYC, NY is entirely different that what's needed/appropriate in Cody, WY. And regardless of what level you think is appropriate/constitutional in NYC, this still seems like common sense.

The only person I've heard speak that I would like to vote for is the Gov of Montana Brian Schweitzer.

Yeah, I asked him nicely but he seems pretty determined to spend as little time in Washington as possible. I can't blame him.
