One Handgun - Forever?

Ruger Redhawk

It's perfect for everything except concealed carry, and we can't carry here anyhow.

I hand load, so I can make it feel about like a 22LR and target shoot. A bit more juice, and it is a defense or small game gun. A bit more, and deer are on the menu too. Heck, it would even do OK in Canada or Alaska.

For versatility, pistols don't hold a candle to revolvers, because they cannot handle the high power stuff.

If it was to be my only handgun, I'd probably swap it for a blued 5.5" barreled model.

Ruger must love us fanboys.

GP100 in the 6" varietal. It just feels like serious business in my hand. +1 on KISS.

And, Smaug, I wouldn't trade that iron for anything. Beautiful revolver. Kudos!

Wow! All of my revolvers are S&W, except for a LCR I traded in for my 637. Perhaps I need to get myself a Ruger revolver. This thread is a testament to their quality. Maybe a SP101 for ccw when the Governor signs off on it. I have a Ruger Red Label 12 gauge and a Ruger .22 rifle, but I never got into their handguns.

Ruger's semis were never much to write home about, but their revolvers are very nice. The GP is all one piece, no plates, so is very rugged. Apparently the new 1911 they just released is pretty rugged as well. Low price point, too!

That would be either my model 28 or 686 S&W .357 mag. I love my M1911a1 but I can do more with a revolver from light pinking to full house loads without worrying about feeding or extraction...

Ruger LCR, because It makes the most sense out of my collection for CC.
However, if I had a few days warning prior to having to make the decision, I'd definitely go window shopping and might make a last minute purchase!;)

The hunting for survival part switches up my SW M&P .40 choice, to the previously mentioned .454 casul (that I don't have), instead of my .500, for acceptance of .45lc as well.

Ruger SP101 3"... BTW, I'm almost in that situation now. If I get much weaker, it'll be my Ruger Security Six Convertable 22.

It's probably the least effective handgun I own, but I'd have to hang on to the High Standard .22 short pistol that was my dad's.

Guess I'd just have to come up with something else for defense, hunting, etc...

If I had to use it for all purposes, it would be my Ruger Single-Six 22/22mag. It would be the most versatile gun I have.

If you wanted to CCW it they make hacksaws. and with that I might change my answer to my custom Redhawk.

S&W 686 Plus

S&W .38/.357 Mag 686 Plus. It is a seven round medium/large frame stainless revolver with five-inch slab-side tapered barrel and underlug.

As good as a 686 is, a "plus" is that much better. There is also a heftier but similar TALO 3 5 7 version with heavy full underlug and wood grip.
