Nightstand Gun

My HD Gun

My HD Gun is an XD9SC (CTC grips) with 3 mags fully loaded right next to it in the head of the bed. I use Black Hills 124gr JHP as my daily carry and HD load (this gun is my daily carry as well). I also have a 6-shot Mossberg 500 in the corner. I keep my pistol "cocked & locked" ALL the time. The shotgun isn't fully loaded-empty chamber for deterrent effect. I'm working on getting my 1st revolver...a .38 LCR from my local gunshot.

Beside the previous mention of larger capacity and the availability to add accessories, if any of your weapons is involved in a shooting, it will be confiscated by police and who knows when if ever you will get it back.

What do you use for SD i the meantime?

That's one more reason I have a G22 for the nightstand and a G30 for carry.

swinokur - your post illustrates my only concern for using my minty 1989
P7M8 as my nighstand gun. With nite sights and no safeties it is a logical choice but I would be crushed if it was taken away. On the other hand, if I ever actually have to shoot someone I'll be glad I have that problem to worry about...

if that's your only firearm, you're kinda stuck. i hope none of us ends up in that situation. but if you cant part with it, I'd try to find another weapon for SD

I have others but they are all collectable (at least to me;) ) so maybe I'll get a Glock 23 or something that wouldn't bother me to lose.

Rem 870 12 ga., 18" barrel loaded with 4 low recoil 00 buck nearby, and a Beretta 92 Brigadier with factory 20 rd mag loaded with Win +p+ 127 gr hp's.

Also in the picture is an alarm system and a 70 lb mongrel that is poorly socialized and highly territorial, and I have insomnia.

I sleep with a Glock 21sf (45acp) in my night stand. In the corner is an 870 Remington Shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot. I carry a Glock 27 so I am using the same type of action for daytime & nighttime. Keep it simple stupid.

We keep two weapons available in nightstands and one (12 ga shotgun) in a very near closet.

In the nightstands: My side is a Ruger .40 Cal, loaded and one clip very near by. On my wife's side is a Taurus 327 (.32 mag) 2" revolver, loaded with a speed loader ready nearby. Plus, we are alarmed (who isn't these days?) and have a creditable animal roaming the house. So far, good luck is with us and we hope it stays with you.

S&W 1911 45ACP with 3 reload plus the mag in the gun. It is on my right side of my bed on a nightstand with a LED flashlight as well. A good flashlight is a must in my opinion, but I do not want it attached to my firearm. I want it to be able to switch off when I release as well. That offers a tactical advantage to confuse your enemy I believe.

If I am still alive when the dust settles, both I and the hardware have done their job.

If my EDC was relegated to the evidence locker, I would buy another. In the mean time, I'm sure another resident of my safe would step up. :)

My nightstand gun is a Remington 870 hanging behind the Chester Drawers (Chest of Drawers for those that grew up somewhere else). The handguns are always locked away when I'm done for the day

I started out with only my 870 in the corner, but started thinking "what if I was incapacitated and couldn't get out of bed...maybe the BG already got off a shot before I got up. That's when I took the 21sf out of the safe and placed it in a drawer beside the bed.

Remember: There are times when 2 guns = 1 gun, & 1 gun = no gun.

I don't know about the "not too expensive" part ... my nightstand gun is a Springfield Loaded Champion, 4-inch barrel and night sights, loaded with Hornady Critical Defense rounds ... it got elected for a number of reasons, including incredible reliability, accuracy and the fact that it's the only one of my dozen or so handguns with night sights; they make it easy to index the gun when I reach for it and to line up the sights in the muted dark of my house ... I'm a light sleeper and not likely to mistake a 1911 for a cell phone, so I think I'll be okay ... I also keep a reload, a Surefire 9p and a Crawford Kasper 3 1/2 inch locking folder ...

Why do you speak in singular? I have 3 handguns on my 2 night stands. Colt 1911, Ruger gp100 6" and a glock 17 with 33rnd mag...

My CCW is my nightstand gun. Its a Ruger P90DC and in goes on the nightstand when I pull my clothes off. I'm a light sleeper, and fully wake easily. I have done this since I got my CC permit 5 years ago. I do keep a loaded shotgun where I could get it quickly after I get out of bed, if I need it.

My Sig P-226 is in a holster snapped to the Brass Bed - Head rail, it's loaded with 17 rounds of Remington Gold Sabres, & an "extra" full magazine hangs right there with it.
The Rem. 20 Ga. pump stands in the corner, about 5' away, loaded alternately with Buck & Slug loads.
My LCP is lying on the nightstand by the bed with my Cell-Phone, where I lay it every night when I take it out of my pocket to go to bed. (it goes right back in, every morning)

The KEG 12 would be a good choice:D
