Nightstand Gun

My wife may pick pistol up and shoot me!

My wife walks and talks in her sleep. I have awaken in the middle of the night finding her standing in the bed taking down picture frames above our bed. When she has a nightmare she sometimes thrashes about. I love her and have never been hurt but for my own self preservation I keep the guns out of her reach. My wife may pick a pistol up and shoot me! She agrees with my thoughts on this self preservation strategy. Lemmon

Personally I have & stick with a M-13, 3 inch barrel, 6 shot revolver, DAO, loaded with "low flash" 38sp 125gr +P ammo. I know it will work, is quick, accurate, and still has enough trigger to let me think when half asleep.

My sometimes daily carry is my nightstand gun. I keep a Glock 36 in a lockbox next to the bed. I keep it loaded but uncocked. I feel that if someone breaks into my small house and gets back to the bed room before I hear them, I have worse issues.

The G36 is there for bump in the night/make my way to the shotgun duty. I adore the brutal effectiveness of the 870.

A Sig 226 in .40S&W / and one extra mag ....stays in a drawer, inside a folded 15" bar towel - in the night stand ...

Its not my primary carry gun / but its a gun I'm very familiar with - and very confident with .... Its also a gun that I know runs 100% - and always has. Its not an inexpensive gun ...its not a "throw away"...and the house and the bedroom are monitor-alarmed...and I don't have any kids at home.../or it would be in a safe.

( the .40 is the gun in the middle / the other identical one is a 9mm - same model all stainless 226 with nite sights / the other one is a Sig X-Five - which is a competition gun - not a gun I would ever carry ).

Glock G22 with Insight M6X light/laser combo with 180 gr. HST and 1extra mag

Keep in a Gunvalt Multi Vault during the day. Unlock at night. Reclose in the morning.

Extra lights Surefire E2DL with extra 200 lumen head
MG P Rocket 700 lumen flashlight.

Backup is Rem. 870

I use my daily carry piece, a Glock 22 with Hornady JHP and a M3 Streamlight. I keep it next to my cell phone in the dresser drawer. I prefer to keep the chamber empty to help avoid any IDs.

I rotate between a S&W 629 loaded with 240grn Speer Gold Dots, a S&W M28 loaded with 158grn Remington JHP's, or a S&W M66 loaded with the same ammo as the M28. One of these revolvers is within immediate reach. I also have a Remington 870 loaded with Remington #4 Buckshot, a Saiga .223 loaded with Winchester 45grn JHP, a large Maglite, and a Cold Steel Counter Tac II close by. My S&W M36 loaded with 135grn Speer Gold Dots is also usually pretty close by, but that's just because I carry it quite a bit. Once in a great while, I'll get a wild hair and replace the revolver with one of my autos (usually either my CZ-75 loaded with Winchester Ranger-T 127grn +P+ or my S&W 1076 loaded with Double Tap 180grn XTP) but not very often.

Whatever I carry during the day sleeps next to me at night.
Depending on the time of year, it may be a .45acp semiauto pistol or a .45LC revolver.

There is also an 870 within arm's reach...and three dogs to sound the alarm.

No I did not either time, nor did I feel the recoil. I will say from personal experience, anyone who fires a weapon W/O hearing protection when it is possible to use hearing protection is a FOOL.

+3000.....(what good hearing aids cost these days)

I prefer a K frame with +P 38's......at HD distances, it will work very nicely, and as my little corner of FL has a very low crime rate, it's enough

My wife does not actually sleep, she slips in and out of a coma. We tried a Ruger Speed Six for a while, but it is rather pointless; any intruder would think she is dead and would run from the scene, terrified in being implicated in her death. Or have sex with her, in which case none of us would know until the STDs began to show up....

On my side of the bed, I now keep a XDm in .40 S&W. After shooting for more than 40 years, I feel more confident with a good semi-auto than with any revolver.

I must admit, for the first 30 years of my life, I only trusted Ruger Blawkhawks in major calibers. They were the only guns which always fired when I pulled the trigger.
I kept this Blackhawk loaded with .45 Colt (Long Colt) 200 grain hollowpoints, guaranteed to ruin your day no matter how many drugs you ingested:

I call it nightstand gun but its really a bookshelf gun right by the head of my bed and just below the mattress, out of sight of anybody coming into the room but easy to grab hold of since I sleep on my belly and its not far from my right hand.

Dan Wesson 357 but I have 38 spcl 158 LSWC in it. Plenty for bed to bedroom door distance.

Once on my feet I have my choice of two loaded shotguns by the door and I switch from handgun to long gun if I have to come out of my bedroom. I'm in the middle of the house and its an open floor plan so when I am in my doorway I can see everything but inside my brothers and sisters bedroom.

Revolver because when I first wake up I don't want anything complicated in my hand, focus on target, ID target, point at and shoot target if it is not verified as friend. Friends and family know to announce themselves before coming into the house or my room so ID is made simpler.

I use my Smith & Wesson model 627 Performance center (2-5/8") as a night stand gun. It is an expensive gun. It leave ZERO doubt about its reliability, and zero doubt about the .357 Magnum's ability to take down a scumbag with one well-aimed shot. Not saying that you have to have a $1,000+ gun in your night stand, but I mean it's your life and your family's life, how much is all that worth?

I havent posted in a long time, just been lurking lately.....

But you always hear people talking about having a "Nightstand Gun" most of the time the people are referencing a gun that wasnt too expensive and was reliable. I just want to see what everyone else is using as a "nightstand gun" and also the night stand where you keep it

the reason im asking is im moving and I have never had a nightstand next to my bed, and i need to find one. So if anyone wants to post some of their pics thanks

stoked with 14 W-W 230gr Ranger T (RA45T)

combined with my Cree flashlight, i'm ready for anything that goes BUMP at 3am

My Colt 1903 .32ACP, I keep a full mag of FMJ in the gun so all I have to worry about is chambering a round and squeezing the trigger. Sure I could get a fancier and new firearm chambered in a higher caliber, but my 1903 suits me just fine :).
