Nightstand Gun

I just want something that's double action,,,

It could be a revolver or a semi-auto pistol,,,
What I do not want to have to do,,,
Is fumble with a safety.

Choosing from what I had in the gun cabinet,,,
My Trooper in .357 seemed the choice,,,
grab, point, squeeze-n-shoot.

the cimmeron on top, this is my bed side gun. hammer back bang 45 long colt will do the job and I hope I never have to shoot anyone

Heres mine but when doing night duty it's cylinder is a 45ACP stoked with some of my stash of 230gr. HP Winchester Black Talons
COLTSAA35.jpg

Mine is a Glock 26 with night sights. On my wife's side of the bed, hers is a blue S&W model 36 .38spl. I also keep a stainless Springfield 1911A-1 .45acp under the mattress and a Colt SP-1 leaned up in the corner by the bed.

I sleep way too soundly...probably due to a clear conscience.:D. Unfortunately it's a near catatonic state and that bothers me but, I have an alarm system that will blast you out of bed the instant a door is opened or motion detectors catch movement giving me enough time, hopefully, to wake up and realize I'm alive and there's a BG in the house.

All I need do is reach under my pillow and grab the 4566 stoked with 230 gr Ranger T's and someone's going to pay the price. My dog would probably run so he's no help. I reckon it's up to me.

I also sleep like a "dead man". I don't like that fact either. However, I rigged my bedroom door so it would be hard and loud to get through. By that time I feel(1-3 sec/s) I will be concious and alert because of the possible threat. All I have to do then is reach for my S&W 1911 45ACP (loaded with 230gr. Hornaday XTP and 3 more reloads; one the same as the 1st-the other both 185gr. Remington Golden Sabers.) and flick that saftey off. No one can get in my sleeping area without waking me up.

night stand/last stand

Like the others siad over and over, be equisitely familiar with whatever handgun you choose that may be called upon to save your life and your loved ones.
Practice religiously in POOR LIGHT and all others in the household should also be familiar.
As for me, a Browning HiPower with 147gr sub sonic hollow points.
My wife has a S&W mod 36 with 38+p 158gr lead semi wad hollow point (FBI load).

Both very good choices for your SD weapons. The 38+p 158gr lead semi wadcutter hollow point is perfect for the 36. The Hi-Power is one of the best performing pistols I ever fired and those 147gr. HP's should serve you well.

I never thought about my wifes .She has a taurus judge with 3 chambers 410 buck shot 2 with 45 long colt hunting load. The two 45s pack a pretty mean walup.

I like your wife's choice. I either keep my 21sf or my Judge in my night stand. I also load the judge with 000 buckshot & Hornady 45LC jhp (3&2). I feel safe with either the Glock or the Judge.

Currently a S&W Sigma 9mm on my bedside table and a Maverick 12 gauge in the corner. I also have a small flashlight and an extra mag on the table. I do like the idea of a "bed holster" though.

I've never understood why people have specific "night stand" guns.... if any of my guns are good for SD, they're fine to have there near the bed.

I don't keep a "nightstand" gun, technically. I have a quick access Gunvault that sits on the floor by my bed at night (I have a small child). That Gunvault gets locked up in the morning inside my big safe when my carry piece comes out, and it gets taken out in the evening when my carry gun goes in. It is simpler to just leave the bedside gun locked in the gunvault 24 x 7. And it was an excuse to buy another gun :D .

My bedside gun is a 4" 686 Plus loaded with 158 grain 38 +P lead HPs. No manual safety to mess with, and a firm long trigger pull to add an extra measure of safety if woken suddenly at o'dark 30, grasping for the gun out of the safe.

I do have a Mossberg 590 in the closet loaded with 00 buck, which I will retrieve if I have time. If I do, my 686 becomes my wife's gun.

I don't keep it by the bed. It's in my dresser drawer.
That way I have to get up and be somewhat awake
before grabbing my gun.

I used this colt 38 Special for many years,

But I recently replaced it with the most reliable 9mm
auto I own. This Taurus has never failed to function.
The light/ laser are nice for the dark. 17 round mag
is reassuring,

My night stand is for the alarm clock, a couple books and my glasses. The glasses are the most important item on that stand. The handgun is in a location that requires at least 3 steps to get it, allowing me time to get the glasses on...:D

Despite most people making fun of them Taurus handguns are actually good and reliable. Especially the PT92, tell you the truth I like the Taurus design better than the Beretta. The frame mounted saftey is awesome. I have a 92FS and love it. However, I got a chance to shoot a PT92 because a guy saw me shooting my Beretta. We both wanted to compare them since they are pretty much clones. He liked the Beretta alot. I was suprised at the accuracy and feel of the Taurus. The Beretta had it beat but not by much. I rather own a Taurus semi auto than a Ruger, I had 2 bad experiences with Ruger Semis and dont trust them.

I've never understood the wisdom of using the cheapest gun for self defense. The life of me and loved ones is not cheap.

I keep a S&W M36 by the bead and carry an Armscor M206 on my side. Although the Armscor is not an expensive gun, it works every time and is quite accurate at 25 yards.
