In this thread we advocate at least 10 round capacity

Jihad or Militant BLM: Take your pick. I live in Dallas. The first week of July 2016 changed my mindset forever. The day after Dallas, I quit carrying the S&W 442. A handgun is definitely not the best answer but again, I will carry as many rounds as practicable. On a normal day, I have 57 rounds in tow-----two Glock 22 mags in my briefcase, one fully loaded Glock 23 mag in the off hand front pocket and a full mag plus one in the chamber of my Glock 23. I'd rather hit what I aim at than to spray and pray as well and I train accordingly.

I typically carry a Glock 17 with a capacity of 18 rounds 17 mag + 1 chamber), but keep it loaded with only 5 or 6 because it's much lighter and more comfortable to carry that way.

But I guess I'm okay since it has a capacity of more than 10 rounds.

It has been my experience that most women who are interested in carrying a weapon would disagree with you on nearly all of your points. (I hope PAX steps in and adds some insight, or corrects me if I'm off base). And, a large number of men who start out in agreement with you lose interest in carry guns because they are too heavy, to hot, uncomfortable, a hassle, etc.

So much depends on your location as well as what your personal "squeal point" is for size and weight. For women that are just starting to carry, as said, anything is better than nothing. For the guys I guess some have it in 'em and some don't.

Carrying everyday is a PITA for the reasons mentioned. When you get the right belt and holster, then things smooth out but there is still a commitment involved.

I went from a commander 45 to a high cap 9 when I was traveling and working in some of the real armpits of the Midwest. It was my decision and I have not gone back. 15+1 with 18 or 19 round backup mag on me, depending on what is in my belt. There are several more mags in the car for whatever I am carrying.

Will hit it, as our Country has changed in the last 7 years, I can not see me going for the easy option unless it for deep concealment.

All of my handguns are either 10 rounds or less. My Glock 26 is a 10+1, so I guess it qualifies, but I don't feel "unprotected" with my S&W Model 642 (and a spare speed loader) in my pocket either. :)

QUOTE: "...As far as carrying a large capacity handgun in case of being involved in a terrorist attack, that scenario is highly unlikely for the overwhelming percentage of people who conceal carry. If it makes you feel better, then do it, but the attitude that those who dont carry high capacity handguns are somehow foolish is ridiculous..."

The trouble is, today, any scenario involving a gun-fight with anyone else for the overwhelming percentage of people who conceal carry "is highly unlikely". But the likelihood of something bad happening is different than the possibility of something bad happening. Which is why prudent people carry insurance for the unlikely possibility of their home catching on fire and why some prudent people try to prepare for the "unlikely" possibility of being involved in a terrorist attack.
Whether you like it or not, terrorism is getting closer and closer to the home hearth every day and, all too soon (and I pray not), it will be upon us.

i guess you missed the rest of my post.

Been liking the Glock 26 lately. I'll swap between the 10 or 12 round mag in the gun depending on dress, with a 17 rounder backup.

That said, I don't feel underarmed with my 1911 or 5 shot snubbie either.

I've been moving more and more towards I can carry a smaller gun and lots of mags distributed around my body much more easily than I can carry a larger gun.

G26 with reload and two round extensions. 1+12 &12.

High capacity is great, and I've carried a HiPower or G17 plenty of times.
But, I feel pretty well armed with a 6 shot 38spl or 357mag, too.
Me too, but then I'm not in high threat area, nor am I employed as a LEO. And two guns makes no sense at all to me from a practical, day to day standpoint. YMMV, Rod

I don't think it matters all that much but I carry a CZ P-07 9mm (15+1) with a spare 15 round magazine. I carry it in a Remora holster (insanely comfortable, even with a heavier double stack gun) and it works for me.

The Glock 43 or Kahr PM9 (and other pocket pistols) are okay for when we can't do better due to work attire, this applies to me on work days.

Those that rationalize less still feel obligated to reply, predictable.

At least you rationalized your reply - predictable ......

A 7 round single stack of 230g hollow points for my Springfield Pro seems sufficient for me. I have two mag holders so I can always carry additional mags if I felt it warranted. Can't forsee a case where I would need to empty a 19 round clip in a self defense scenario.

Absent the possibility of running into a pack of coyotes in the woods I am not certain what situation I could actually extract myself and my family from safely where the difference between 5 or 10 rounds of ammunition (one extra reload) vs 15 or 30 would matter. If my attacker is so determined that one or two "good" hits does not dissuade him I am not certain that doubling or even tripling it matters. If I am so lacking in skill that I can not score one or two good hits out of five I am not certain that 15 improves the situation.

If I am facing multiple attackers its a desperation situation anyways. Might I be able to extract myself from 2 armed attackers? Yeh I have a chance. Three it starts to get REALLY iffy. Four... I'm not winning that fight regardless of how many rounds I have.

I'm not law enforcement. My definition of "win" includes being able to change the situation enough to make retreat possible.

Once again,I chose an M+P 9C. 12 rd mags with an option of 17 rd reloads,except I'm in a 15 rd state.

However, since the "changing times" has come up...( I do not disagree)

If you have a situation where you are up against a killer with an AK or AR,with a handgun,I don't think a face to face situation will go well for the handgunner.

Stealth and surprise matter. A CNS hit in the first 3 rounds would be ideal. From behind.

Failing that, you have become a target. And it will be a face to face shootout.

I am not knocking mag capacity and 9mm controllability.Good things.

But the very heavy percentage of your survival is what you do with the first 7 or 8.

If you felt it warranted why would you go?
"Today I'm going to a dangerous area, I'll take an extra mag"

My signature covers this:
Some places are typically safer than others, but criminals are mobile and may show up in a typically safe place without notice.
Strive to always carry the gun you would carry on the "bad" side of town.

Orlando, San Bernardo, Chattanooga, Aurora, Sandy Hook, Columbine, Heath, ... would any of those merit "warranted" prior to the incident.

My EDC flowchart starts with "town or country". Being out in nature usually means I'm carrying a full-size revolver with magnum loads. The "town" choice then gets to weather and what can be concealed with the appropriate clothing. If it's a double-stack semi, then that's great. If not, a pocket revolver with .327 Federal is alright with me.

I'm a "Glock" guy, even though I do own other brands. I'll carry any one (or two) of my Glocks.

The main or usual ones I've been choosing are either a:
-G26 (gen3 or 4) 12+1 or 10+1 rounds, 9mm
-G27gen3 10+1, .40
-G30SF or G30gen4 10+1, .45ACP
-G19gen3 or 4 15+1, 9mm
-G23gen3 13+1, .40

Occasionally, I'll carry:
-G17gen3 or 4, 17+1, 9mm
-G34gen3 or 4, 17+1, 9mm

This thread has gone for three pages villifying the carry of a pistol and a shopping bag full of ammo, apparently for self protection. I ask " How many of those respondents actually were involved in a situation where ten or twenty.....or in fact just one round was fired at an assailat"? Not many I'll bet and in most confrontations one or two rounds is the extent of shots fired in most shooting situations. There is no national poll behind my statement, just thirty plus years in a police department with 135 sworn officers in a very active community with a lot of low income housing.
I feel quite adequately armed with a Sig or Kimber 380 Micro pistol as i am not "on the hunt" but rather have it to protect myself or others until Law Enforcement officers can respond .
