I was "fake" robbed yesterday

Tanzer

Sorry for the crap you have had to deal with. In Texas it seems to be a bit different. I have put two people in prison myself from my testimony. One for simply waving a firearm at me while driving down the highway. The second was for a terroristic threat made against my person. It seems that down here the LEO's are on our side a lot more than anywhere else I have seen on here. (Before somebody tries to take this as Gospel truth, see the words "I have seen.") I guess it just depends on which detective you catch on which day. I hope that these morons get what is coming to them, whatever that may be.

Tanzer, it sounds like you have been through a lot, and I can understand why you think the Police handle things pretty poorly. I agree, I have seen too many people blown off or pushed aside, or simply told "we're working on it". I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find out that they had a pretty good idea of who the group was, and they were trying to figure out exactly which one was the one who "robbed" me. Better than no progress, I guess. I dont expect much to happen to the guy at this point. Even if he gets charged, we all know that not much would become of it. I'd sure like to know this guy's name though....my friend and I are "Citizens on Patrol" for the city PD, and I'm sure we could find ample reason to keep harassing this trash.

Understood (Doug and GalilARM). We are products of our experiences. Glad all is okay, and I'm routing for you.

Find his favorite hangout, and convince the local store owners to play Glen Miller music outside the store. Punks up here used to hang around the local liquor store until the owner did that. :)

That kind of "kidding" would have gotten him shot in my town. He unlawfully entered your vehicle so it is a crime.

They didnt print anything in the paper. They sent out a campus wide email warning students of the risk and telling them what happened. It was pretty generic, but I think I deleted it.

Nah...its a relatively small private university, in a relatively high crime area. Theres practically a perfect line that divides rich college kids from the poor, high crime areas.

They emailed "warnings" to students several times since I've been here.....Once was when a homeless guy was caught masturbating in a girl's shower room in one of the dorms, another time was when a couple on a walk was robbed at gunpoint, another was when some local kids went on a pepper spraying spree, and now this incident.

I guess that makes sense. I lived in Athens Ohio for several years back in the late seventies. A person would pretty much have to die before it would even register as news.

Makes sense to me. Remember, to the college, the bottom line is $$$$. Negative press means less of it. Safety is secondary. They want it, and will budget a certain amount for it. when their bargain basement security falls short, they're not going to make a big announcement, but will do just enough to cover their a**es.

The longer this thread runs the more implausible the story sounds to me.

A crime was committed. If it was reported, duh, there would be a police report and a number issued to the file.

If this was reported to the school/college we would see more than an e-mail. No college wants a civil suit or bad press.

I don't believe this story is made-up. I went through a similar thing when I was in high school following a late-night football game. The other guys were 4 hispanic dudes from the opposing school who approached my car after I got in, 2 of whom had baseball bats. There is a baseball field attached to that football field, so seeing people with bats around there was not uncommon.

I had my windows down and 2 of them rushed in front of my car, keeping me from going without running them over and the other 2 approached my driver's window in a threatening stance with the bats drawn up as though they were going to take a swing. They got a couple of feet from my window, and I was ready to pounce on the gas pedal if they did start to swing. The one guy lowered his bat and laughed: "Just kidding fool!" They all started laughing. Oh I was pissed...glad I got out of there before I did something I shouldn't.

I'd feel more comfortable with something to confirm the incident.

For example, I know that credentials mean a lot to some people. I was once accused on-line of not being a biker because my vocabulary and syntax was too good. To some kids being white-collar and a bike club member is too impossible.

But the 'fix' to the problem was quite easy. I work in public every day. Come see me.

And so it is with stories like this. The fix is easy. If the crime was committed and reported, there's a number.

My home has a public green-space behind it. My wife and I thought that kids or petty thieves were using the cover to "rattle door knobs."

After a number of garage thefts hit our area (neighbors would leave their garage doors open during the day and tools would get stolen), I called our beat-cop so he could check out our doors and yard.

The first thing he did was to ask my birthdate and assign a number to my complaint.

Not only could my records be pulled if a crime derived from neighborhood watch reports, but statistics of crime could be sorted. If a suspect was arrested and a trial set, other crmes might be tied to his actions.

Now, this story may indeed be true. It should be easy to document.

umm...

The longer this thread runs the more implausible the story sounds to me.

Why?

A crime was committed. If it was reported, duh, there would be a police report and a number issued to the file.

Yea, issued to the campus officers. Since they are generally inept, I spent a few months helping train guards at a few Texas colleges, they probably don't know to ask around for that information. Also, paperwork takes time. Just down the road from where this incident occurred, the police are slow as molasses. They had never had formal training. In Texas, most police see security officers as morons or wannabes and are generally uncooperative with requests.

If this was reported to the school/college we would see more than an e-mail. No college wants a civil suit or bad press.

No, you wouldn't. How does more press make less bad press? There is no way to spin this to make it a good situation. The more the school keeps quiet, the better they look. By not acknowledging it wholly, they can make it out to be a completely isolated incident.

And so it is with stories like this. The fix is easy. If the crime was committed and reported, there's a number.

That number is also not the business of any of us that were not personally involved. I work very closely with law enforcement daily. The victim does nto have to provide that number to anyone non-LEO and is usually advised not to.

The first thing he did was to ask my birthdate and assign a number to my complaint.

One isolated incident. when my truck got broken into, the PD didn't even send a squad car, despite numerous calls.
