I was "fake" robbed yesterday

by The Tourist:
"I was once accused on-line of not being a biker because my vocabulary and syntax was too good. To some kids being white-collar and a bike club member is too impossible.

But the 'fix' to the problem was quite easy. I work in public every day. Come see me.

And so it is with stories like this. The fix is easy. If the crime was committed and reported, there's a number.

My home has a public green-space behind it. My wife and I thought that kids or petty thieves were using the cover to "rattle door knobs."

After a number of garage thefts hit our area (neighbors would leave their garage doors open during the day and tools would get stolen), I called our beat-cop so he could check out our doors and yard.

The first thing he did was to ask my birthdate and assign a number to my complaint."

Yeah, right. You don't really expect us to believe those stories do you?

I still don't see that it matters much. Either this happened or it didn't, so what? So we discuss it hypothetically, something we do plenty of anyway. Granted, it does make everything Galilarm says suspect, but then most of what most of us say is suspect anyway.

This;

overreaction in cases like this is a real possibility. I think it does raise a legitimate point though. Are there things we can do that help prevent us from accidentally shooting someone for making a bad joke or stupid mistake?

And this;

I don't ever want to shoot someone and after the fact either know or even suspect that my life was not actually in danger. This incident demonstrates quite well that sometimes all indications are that our life or limb is indeed at stake when in fact they are not.

Are legitimate arguments worthy of discussion. These fall under Tactics and training so that we may hone our views and perceptions.

Bet you'll never let yourself get caught in Condition White again, will ya?
I'm taking some post graduate courses and going out to my car late at night. THANK YOU for the reminder not to get routine about it! I've added some vigilance in the past few days AND reminded my wife to do the same. - Questioned her the other night about getting out of work and she's been making the same mistake.
That's how this post started out.
Now;
important issue whether this particular event happened or not

That does nothing to hone our skills. It doesn't remind me of anything I didn't learn in Kindergarten. Sure, being honest is a virtue. I hope that GalilARM is being honest. The shame is personally on GalilARM if that's not the case, but threads get closed down when they stagnate, and the best way to do that is to bicker back and forth about something off topic.
One more itty bitty thing; I reported an incident on this post some time ago. I purposely neglected to mention which sherrif/police depts were involved. Why? Because they handled it professionally and gave me respect as a CCW holder, and I didn't want THEM getting phone calls etc from some Brady Campaign troll, making them sorry they gave me the benefit of the doubt.
Some important points here; What about cellphones? are they becoming a problem? Pictures on the internet? What about dealing with punks? Some tough calls there. Stay in condition yellow, it won't cause you blood pressure problems. Other points, please....

One more thing, We don't need to consider someone who disagrees as an adversary. I took a quote from oldironman to task (not against him, just for debate) He did not respond by questioning my integrity. That's what our opponents do - start name calling and generalizing. He instead restated his position. That is reasonable discussion. Hats off to you, Ironman.

Oldironman,

You know, your turn-about is a fair question. We have lots of Madison based TFL members here. If my credentials need to be verified before I can offer a rebuttal, then so be it. Name a representative, I'll sharpen his knife and show him my Harley. Big deal. Easy fix.

Now, to the crux of the comment I made. I have doubts, pure and simple. And if spurious comments are made here and someone gets shot, none of us will be laughing.

Do you want to know what's going on, or not?

Edit: If my credentials must be verified before a legitimate debate can go forward, please call Capital City Harley-Davidson & Buell. (608)-221-2761 so we can get this over with.

Please don't take offense, but it really doesn't matter to me (or most others here) if you ride a bike or if Gali is telling the truth. It is a plausible situation, and, as Tanzer pointed out, worth discussion. Someone said something about not being caught in condition white again. Well, in all likely-hood, everyone here will be caught in "white" sooner or later. The question is, will there be a bad guy present when it happens. I don't shower with a gun, so for at least 15 minutes every day, I am pretty vulnerable. I used to hang a holster under my towel. I used to sleep with my gun under my pillow. These days I do mentally enact scenarios to stay prepared, but I can't have a gun in my truck to and from work, so there is half my life with nothing but pepper spray (pretty much defenseless). The news article showed that it has happened, so we know it can again. We should prepare accordingly, whether Gali gives up a video tape of his ordeal or not. Right or wrong, I would have to say that if anyone gets in my truck or my house and points anything at me, my first instinct (hopefully) will be to kill him. I know I will be startled and scared. I just hope I react and draw/shoot quickly. If it turns out to be a joke - well I will leave that up to 12 of my Texas peers. This scenario is such a rare occurrence that some here even doubt the story. I think the odds are that if a stranger tries to open our door without knocking, and point something at us, our life is in serious danger.

Oldironman, I signed off about noon today to go to the gym and work, and after dinner signed back on about 9:00PM CST.

I was gone about nine hours. Like many of you, I mull over my own opinions and wait to read yours. Besides fun and interest, there is a decided element of safety at work here.

But I've changed my focus during that nine hours. I was surprised that some of you didn't really care if this was gospel or a hoax. And ultimately, our actions might be colored by info we read here.

There are thousands of TFL members here. With that kind of odds, somewhere, at sometime, another member will experience an intruder jumping into his vehicle.

And based on the story here, someone may think, "Oh, this is one of those gag robberies I read about--I'm in no real danger."

You have chosen to interpret that slant on the information here. I have chosen to research acts like this a bit deeper. YMMV, but if you're happy with that, nothing I can say will matter, anyway.

I'm really not trying to argue with you, but I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. My post should have been read as, "the odds someone is going to do that to you or me as a joke are just about nil, so if we see that situation start to unfold, we should take it as an attempt on our life and react accordingly." I honestly don't believe there are that many people stupid enough to do it. Most people like that get hit by trains, electrocuted, shoot their own selves while verifying their gun is empty, or just fall off cliffs before they meet gun-toters like us. So when I say it doesn't matter to me if it is true or not, it is because I will treat it as the gospel in the interest of safety. Anyway, if we all agreed on every aspect of things, I guess this place might get a little boring, eh? Later, :)

You guys still in disagreement about this whole thing? I'm at home enjoying my fall break, but I would have been on here if I had known wht kind of party I was missing...I'll check back periodically, but try not to get this thread locked. Though I had no idea it would garner this kind of attention....

Haha I'm on Fall Break, no way will I be studying :D

On a sort of separate note, my University just sent out another email about a new safety system they are implementing. I dont know how it will really help, but it sounds like they are at least trying to step things up a notch. Something about sending out text messages informing students of campus incidents and emergencies. I suppose this is for like runaway rapist in the dorms or VTech type situations....

Oh boy Galilarm...you've just screwed yourself by stating what you just did....now people will be grilling you about the trith of the new system and trying to force you to forward every text haahhah. Good luck buddy.

By the way, I do agree with everyone that beleives this senario is plausable there for this thread is helpful, and if not helpful then deff brain food. The bickering about verifiyng and credentials has put a big damper on the topic.

Pretty much count on the VA Tech deal. That's happening all over.
