Going Back To The Wild West In A Time Machine.....?

Also, everyone wants to make some money by lugging things around (gold, guns, etc.). Heck with that. I'll make more money just by knowing the future.
ya, I'm thinking buying gold at $1800 an ounce to take back isn't the most thought out idea. I'd probably just grab a bottle of tylenol or better yet amoxicillin.;)

I'll take a 4 5/8" 45 Colt Ruger Balckhawk.

As long as I can take the science for centerfire cartridges, smokeless powder and the metallurgy to make guns that can use them; I don't care what revolver I take with me.
I suppose a K-frame S&W will do the trick till I get Buzzcook Armaments and snack food up and running.:)

As long as we are playing

As long as we are playing the going back in time fantasy.. I had read that Captain Cook had to place Marine Guards on the deck of the Endeavour to keep his sailors from literally pulling the ship apart. They had discovered that for the price of an iron nail they could buy a beautiful young Tahitian woman.

So I'll go back to 18th century Polynesia with a keg of nails, a 686 plus and an m-60. Good times to be had by all.

There was a movie about this actually - a guy travelled back in time, and he took a modern S&W .357 revolver and he was challenging people to gun fights and winning them. I think he also took a Kevlar vest - but I don't totally remember. But anyway, he was killing all these people in gun fights with his .357 magnum.

Gun fight movie

CountZero, thinking about the movie you sited; a guy with a.357 challenging people to gunfights. It got me to thinking. The Post Civil war west was populated with veterans of the bloodiest war in American history. They were a hard Scrabble people whose daily life hardened them to discomfort, hardship, physical work and danger that few 21st century Americans experience. They may have experienced violence at a level unknown to modern Americans.
If I went back in time I would be the best armed but most humble time traveler possible. I would not want to face one of those guys no matter what we carried. My 686Plus would do me little good after he drilled me through the chest with his 44 rim fire conversion.

It's all BS, but fun.

smith/wesson 25, 45 colt, 6", couple of speedloaders..
oops...mis understood OP's ?

better make it a remington 1858 in 44 cal, with extra cylinders...

If y'all had a time machine and could go back to the WildWest around
1860 to 1875, and possibly run into troubles, but you could only take
and carry " ONE Revolver " with you.
...which would it be ????
Pics & Caliber welcome too
:confused::confused::confused:
Was this point of the OP missed by most, or would they prefeer the firearms of the time rather than a modern revolver of today?

This thread would seem to benefit from a few more parameters, such as "for a 10 year period" or "indeterminate period," etc. That way it would force or at least strongly suggest certain choices over others beyond favorite firearms based primarily on modern operational characteristics, capacity, etc. (Though I've often fantasized about the looks on both friend and foes' faces upon showing up at the Alamo with a 1928A1 :) ) Local ammo availability and repair considerations would then (likely) come more into play.

My choice if the "visit" was for an unknown or prescribed but prolonged period of time: If given the choice, I'd land in 1873 and it'd be a Colt SAA in .45. Permit as late as 1876 and make it a .44-40 to match the '73 Win that makes its way into my scabbard! And make that a 24" round barrel if I have to regularly put meat on the table.

I hear that, Imagine opening up on Santa Ana's men with a B.A.R/ Browing M2 Ma Duse/ M249/ Tommy Guns/ a plethora of MP5's and M4's (and many more just tired of listing them :)) for all our men. :D Also they should each have a modern pistol on their hip like the 92FS or G19.

I am going to assume we don't have to worry about ammo availability b/c we pretty much have to go with the guns available at the time if we do. I'll take a 4" stainless GP100.
