Do you have a gun that is commonly thought of as crap?

No, but I had one that was often damned by faint praise.

Ruger P90. All Ruger P-series are often referred to as "good solid guns with poor triggers." Mine had the heavy long gritty pull, but was VERY accurate for a combat gun. Focusing on the trigger pull issue, I just bought a 1911 this year, and found that it is not in the same league as that old Ruger from a reliability standpoint.

O.P. - Regarding S&W ruining the PPK, that is one of those things that gets repeated very often, and is seldom (if ever) substantiated. To the contrary, everything I've read from actual owners suggests that S&W improved the PPK, as slide bite is no longer a problem and feeding reliability, esp. with hollow points, is better.

The only point I can make against the PPK is that they are expensive. One could argue that the Bersa Thunder 380s shoot at least equally well for half the price. But there seems to be a niche market for well-made 380s. Walther PPK, Beretta 84 and 85, Sig Sauer P230 and 232. Only now are simpler, cheaper-to-manufacture 380s storming the market.

I would also argue that Taurus are a different animal.

With Taurus, it is the quality control and customer service that are not good.

By definition, this means that there are good ones and bad ones, but more bad ones than a company with good QC policies.

My first gun was a high point .40 s&w. It was heavy as a house brick and kinda shaped like one. It was an early 90s model before they went plastic. It ate every kind of ammo I could stuff into it. The full warranty was nice too. Also have a savage edge .223 with a ecw rail and $100 barska. I can hit 12 oz. Coke cans all day long from 300-500 yards.

yep... a couple... both antique & modern... I keep on topic by just listing the modern guns

scurge of the earth... I own a Rohm Gumba... 6" 22 & it shoots too good to get rid of it for what they sell for...

I have a trifecta of Tauri... a 4" stainless Tracker in 22 magnum, & Raging Hornet ( used as the base for my custom fast twist Hornet ) & a new 380 TCP... the only issue with any of them, was the plastic insert broke out of the Tracker front sight ( which could have happened with with any plastic insert front sight )

got a couple of AMT Automags a 2, 3, 4, & 5 & all of mine actually work ( couldn't say the same for my AMT 380 Back Up... which would not function even after being looked at by 2 gun smiths )

I surely must have some other junk, but I guess that's all I can stand to list...:o

All of them. Someone always hates something. Someone out there is going to hate at least one brand of gun, car, refrigerator, cigar, something. Don't sweat it.

Crap

I had a Tauras PT1911 that shot well but had problems with faiulure to go to battery, sent it back for repair, came back, shoot well until the ambi saftey fell off while shooting. I sent it back to be fixed. It came back all fixed with a free mag. I tested it, put 100 round down range, shot great no problems. I sold it. I didn't trust it. Without trust it would have beem a save queen.

I bought a sub-compact for SD and it is (was?) a POS. I wouldn’t depend on it nor get rid of it because someone else might depend on it, and it fail.

It’s now back in the box but it went through that big anvil in the sky first. The barrel, pretty much an oval bore now, is still out there in the brush and I hope to find it one day to add to the box.

Five hundred down the drain but worth every penny to see a POS flattened into what it should be.

Good thread idea.
Charter Arms Undercover: .38 Never a problem. It's been my little friend for over 20 years.
Walther (S&W) PPK/S: Nice little gun.
Taurus 85UL: Underwhwelming? Yes. But it is not truely crap.
Colt Python- The timing is fine. And yes I shoot it regularly. I've even looked at it crosseyed. Yep still in time.

Armscor M206 .38 special revolver. Cast metal with minimal finish work and a bargain-basement parkerized finish. As ugly as it is, it has a great double action trigger and is easy to shoot accurately. I actually enjoy shooting it more than my more expensive revolvers. Had to replace the grips though. The cheap wooden jobs the gun comes with are horrible.

I gave my brother my old Arminius Titan Tiger 4" in .38. I've had some light strikes, and the trigger is a mighty 12 to 14 lb pull, but what should I expect from a $75 revo? Definitely worth more than what I paid for it, and a fun gun to boot.

Some nay say on the Norinco type 54s, but mine has NEVER had a problem. Only once when the hammer slipped from off my thumb and discharged and grazed my stomach. Needless to say, I learned to take my finger off the trigger right away when bringing the hammer down. Operator failure, no the gun's fault.

My PF-9 on the other hand is new to me, and a pretty well-reviewed gun, but I'll be damned if I'm not having a few feeding problems. I bought a brand new mag and the extractor seems fine, but I just don't have the time these days to bubba with it.

I have a S&W Sigma in .40, It gets alot of trash for the trigger but in my opinion it is perfectly serviceable and i have never had any problems shooting it.
I also have a Charter Arms .38spl Undercover. I have read alot about them but mine shoots great and I trust it enough to have it ride along with me in my car where ever I go.

Ya !! I have 3 Kel-Tecs P-40s I love'em. Light-powerful-dependable-no nonsense gun. Two carries, and one for parts gun just encase, (Kel-Tec has no more parts) ;)

Ravens count?

I have 3, a P-25, an early model MP-25, and a later model MP-25. All function well. None are tack drivers - what do you expect from mouse guns like these? Pain to field strip and clean because of the complicated placement of springs.

I have a P-11 Kel-Tec, (works great for me) an XD 40 that also works great, and a Kimber Custom Classic (not the K2 series, an older one) that is flawless. All three I have "heard" bad things about... go figure.

I suppose I have 2. My EDC is a Kimber Ultra CDP II, that has had nothing done to it other than larger grips installed. Don't like checkering and need fat smooth wood. It has been a flawless carry with my chosen load for over 7 years. Granted, most don't think of Kimber as crap, but many do, and the Ultras are the most-maligned of these.

More than the Kimber, I would say most think of the Taurus PT-22 as crap. Mine, however, is not only perfect, it has been perfect with a load Taurus specifically recommends against as unreliable. It is a well-made fun little pistol.

My dad gave me an old .22. It was depression era and kid sized. Single shot. Only problem was it had no safety and could NOT be unloaded until you fired it! That was no problem as the sear didn't engage well so it went off with just a bump  and it had no trigger guard:eek::eek:. Plus it was easier to find the spots that were NOT rusted than the spots that were rusty! It was crap!

Don't have one now, but I used to own a Raven .25 semi auto. Considered to be total junk at the time. I kinda liked the little piece of crap. Actually, I think the cartridge was the bigger piece of crap. The Raven never had a malfunction of any kind, was very inexpensive (paid around $60 new), and easy to pocket carry.
A buddy of mine owned a Jennings 25. Now, that was a whole different story. Don't think he ever made it through a magazine without a malfunction of some sort.
