Do you have a gun that is commonly thought of as crap?

I don't think people understand the question.

There are people who don't like Glocks but generally speaking, the majority of the people admit that they're reliable.

I've seen some bad reactions when Glock fanbois start their "My Glock is the best because the police use it" nonsense - but I haven't run into too many people who think they're crap.

I own a Colt All American 2000 with the standard and, impossible to find, short barrels. I find the design fascinating but the trigger lacking.

In response to Sir Gilligan, I have had 3 Walther PPKS's. First two great. Two earlier Interarms models. Thr last was the same just before s&W took over. Crap! Nothing I could do would fix the FTF / FTE issues. My son bought a new S7W model. A few early FTF's, I polished the feed ramp, and the chamber. Perfect since. Yes some were crap, good luck with which. Get an old German one, it will be worth it.

My Ruger P89. Most say they are good guns if a little bulky. I put some Houge grips on it, feed absolute crap through it and shoots like a dream. Never a malfunction of any kind. I trust it with my life. I just can't figure why they are so damn cheap.

I have owned eight Kimbers, and still own several. A lot of people talk smack about them, but each one has worked perfectly for me...that's why I keep buying them.

I have owned three Kahrs (and still have two of them). Again, some have had negative experiences with them, but each of mine has been perfect.

I also owned four Kel-Tecs, and my experience was seriously disappointing. And that is an understatement. :)

So, I guess that what I take from all this is...YMMV.

Do you have a gun that people on line often post that it is a piece of crap but you find it to be a fine or even excellent firearm?

I have a Taurus snubbie that's been just fine so far. Second runner up on the "gun brand most likely to inspire a hate thread" vote, after Jenning|Bryco|Jimenez|Whoevertheyarethisyear, and HiPoint.

Yep.

Phoenix .22; had it close to 20 years; never had a problem with it, except the slide safety is unreliable; it has loosened over the years and falls down, but for me that is ok, because I never have relied on it, just the frame safety.

I have an SW40VE I bought new in 2005. It has thousands upon thousands of rounds through it. It is utterly reliable and accurate. I have no complaints about the gun... not even the trigger. Shoot DA revolvers for a while and the trigger is normal. Mall ninjas will tell you it's crap obviously. And if they can't shoot it's obviously the gun's fault.

I don't know how many others have complained, but I had the misfortune to purchase one of the "made to strict NATO specs" Turkish 1911s. What a monumental piece of crap that is!

Just about every make and model of gun will have some one that thinks it is POS

I have had a 22 derringer and a 22 revolver made in Germany that were not hi quality but worked just fine. There are people that bash Glocks, Kimbers, S&W (with locks) Kahrs, and you name it, some of these folks have never even shot the guns, let alone owned them.

I don't pay a lot of attention to others complaints, there are guns I don't care for but that does not mean they are no good, just not for me. It took me a long time to accept plastic guns but now I own and shoot several different brands. :D

Yes. "They" say the following is crap:

My Auto-Ordnance M1911A1. Actually a good pistol. No superstar but good. People say they are junk
My P-22. Actually a champ. People say this zinc pistol is crap. Aside from .22s not going off, I had to run over 12K rounds on this used P-22 to get it to start making trouble- and then it was the springs finally wore out
My Pietta Colt 1862 repro. Great revolver, well made, great fit and finish and accurate. People say that in the 1980s (when mine was made) Pietta made junk
And now I'm hearing rumblings that my Ruger MKIII is lousy, but it hasn't had any malfunctions ever and I'm first owner, about 1500 rounds so far, and it's super-accurate

So I guess that all this means is that "they" are pretty full of it

Depending on who you speak to, all my guns are considered crap by some people. I enjoy shooting them. My opinion is the one that matters the most. They all work well enough for me.

Yep!

Kimber Pro CDP II 1911 (4" .45 ACP): This pistol is perfection; lightweight, accurate, eats everything, with no malfunctions out of the box with HP & ball ammo. Maybe older models are what all the Kimber bashing is about.

Taurus 740 Slim: Eats everything, no malfuntions of any kind. The slide/barrel fit is not straight resulting in a very inaccurate gun. I don't care about the lifetime warrranty (its a cheap gun anyway), I won't send it in because even if it comes back shooting to POA, I still won't trust it as a carry weapon. Instead, I will shoot it until it breaks and then toss it. Because its so difficult to shoot, I think shooting it actually improves my accuracy with other pistols.

Thanks for the responses.

I am not worried what other people think. The point here is that you have owned the gun and you know how the gun has performed. None of this, "I heard that BRAND X is crap and I would never own one."

This thread is an attempt to balance the scales a bit. I know I post when I am having trouble so it skews the amount of online data about a gun. Knowing that the unsatisfied will post more still doesn't help much when the well is poisoned.

When someone gripes about a gun I will PM them and ask if they own the gun, or have at least shot the gun (because maybe their brother or father owns it and they have actually used the gun a bit).

So, back to the original post, "Do you have a gun that others think is a piece of crap but works fine for you?" or "What is all the hype? Mine works great!"

I'd give anything to get my West Hurley Auto Ordnance 1911 and my RG 66 back. I've had several RG's and they're decent guns. You couldn't give me a Mosin tho.

No, apparently I've avoided them all! Did have a Sterling .22 once that was garbage.

That was a long time ago in a state far far away during my US Navy days tho.

i read a lot of people say the grendels are crap. i have a p10 and p12 that have ran great for me. i've also heard people say bad stuff about the p64, and i like that gun too.

I've had two S&W revolvers with the ILS and while many people call them "ugly overpriced junk", I've been extremely happy with both of them.
