Do you have a gun that is commonly thought of as crap?

llama micromax

My llama would fall into that category. A Micromax .380. A blowback action but otherwise scaled down 1911. It has been very reliable, no service required in 15 some years and is as accurate as any other small pistol. To partially borrow from an old watch commercial. "it takes a bootin and keeps on shootin". :)

a CZ52 -- in 7.62x25. Big, obnoxiously LOUD, almost accurate, cheap to shoot. Pigskin holster.

Hey, hey hey now, I never mentioned my Rossi 461 .357. I'd much rather have my CZ52s (7.62X25) in the long run than my .357.

I have personal experience with several "POS" guns.
1. Kel-Tec P11- this was my first gun, ev
2. Glock 29- my second gun, oh, how I miss it!
3. Beretta Model 84
4. Hi-Point .380
5. Springfield XD9SC- apparently thought of as "crap" by some- I beg to differ!
6.Kel-Tec P32- not bad for a pocket pistol
7. Hi-Point C9- yeah,yeah I know!:)
8.Glock 26- this is my EDC pistol, hasn't failed me yet! But a buddy of mine swears it's just a "mere toy"

I think I have the most "crap" guns out there. I buy them because they are cheap because no one wants one. Every one functions fine (some needed some tweaking) and are wonderful for what they are. I also own some top of the line guns as well. I love them all the same. Some of my collection includes: HP22a, Raven .25, Charter Arms Undercover .38Spcl, 15 or so Llamas from the .22LR up to and including the .45 Sub Compact II and a Taurus PT145 Gen 3. I also have a Mossberg 30/30 lever action that the purists turn their nose up up. I believe every gun listed there is considered trash by the gun snobs. Who cares? I love them all and they all love me.

Tons

I currently carry a Taurus 650 as does my wife. Over the years I have owned, shot and been happy with:
Taurus P145 X2
Taurus P745
Rossi M88
Dan Wesson 722
Dan Wesson 15
Mitchell Trophy
Sterling 22
Atigua .32
Keltec P11 X2
Keltec P32
Grendel P10
Grendel P12
Phoenix HP22
I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. I've also owned my share that "they" say are POS's and I would agree with.

This thread makes me want to go buy a Hi-Point!!!::D

I got 2 of 'em!!

Hi-point 45. Shoots great, and does not jam as long as I field-strip and clean it every 200-300 rounds.

The second (and my favorite handgun) is one of the old little Jennings J-22s. It was terrible when I first bought it. Jammed like a S.O.B.! First off, this gun needs hevier loads in order to cycle properly. Mine works best with CCI Mini-mags. Also, the factory magazines in this gun SUCK. I have an aftermarket mag which is MUCH better. Took the gun to my gunsmith and had him polish/grind the snot out of it... Has not misfired in over 40 mags now:D If you own one of these little gems, you gotta ask yourself one question- Do I want to spend 80-100$ fixing up a 50-100$ gun? For me the answer was yes, and I'm looking fo a second one.

Is that a re-post?

I own an AR-7 Survival Rifle. It's a newer version currently put out by Henry's. I have run almost 350 rounds through it and from the very first shot to the last it never jammed once. I kinda sorta hit the target some of the time...but it never jammed!...LOL!

I have a S&W9m(pre-Sigma) pocket pistol. They were only made for two years but mine has been flawless. They are getting rare and have received a lot of bad press especially in the .380 version. It has no external controls other than the mag release on the grip and I was able to find two extra mags.

I have a West Hurley Auto-Ordnance 1911 that was handed down to me that had never been shot. It would not go through one single magazine without a FTE or FTL. I polished the ramp, installed a Wilson main spring and extractor, and I bought two Kimber stainless 7 round magazines. 1000 rounds later it has been fully functional without a problem. All I shoot in it is hardball but thats before and after the changes.

Glockfan36-

Who in their right mind would consider a Beretta 84 a "POS"?

You might argue the cartridge it fires is weak, but I don't think I've ever read anything bad about the gun itself. IMO, it, and the Browning BDA 380 are the BEST 380's ever made.

I have a Jennings J-22 that I shoot occasionally over the last 20 years - still runs like a champ...as long as its clean.

Tanfoglio EXCAM .25 - never shot it, it was given to me.

Lorcin .380 - Fired it a couple of times - worked.

I have both a HiPoint C9 and .45 Carbine and they have both been very reliable albeit with less than 1k through the C9 and only 100 through the brand new carbine (which feels like a very well made beast of a rifle). I like the C9 very much but the carbine simply ROCKS!

All the rest of my stuff are 'reputable' vendor items though people will forever debate the definition of 'reputable' gun manufacturer as well. It's very subjective like anything else.

-Cheers

I don't know what the common opinion of Llama guns is. I know I have one that is a "piece of crap."

It's a 32acp 1911 undersized knock off. I bought it about 50 yrs ago but have only about 500 rounds through it. It no long functions, in fact it won't cycle, can't rack the slide. Finally got it apart (the problem made it very difficult) It seems the the pin the recoil spring is on is worn at the end that presses on the lug that is on the bottom of the barrel. The metal of the lug and the piece that the recoil spring surronds is so soft that it has worn away. If I were a welder I would try to build it up, but I just don't feel that it's worth the effort for such an anemic round and who knows what will fail next.

JimPage: I friend of mine has a Llama in 32acp that looks like a small 1911. He was in his yard when a dog attacked and bit him. He shot the dog 4 or 5 times (the dog did not die) and the dog let go and ran away. I messed with it a bit and thought about getting one (if I can find one). His was made in the 70's. It was kinda cool. He loves that little gun. He takes it everywhere. That funny how some people have no issue with something, and others can't ever get it work right?

I've got a Taurus 445 stainless steel 44 special 2". It's been a good gun and recently has been shot a lot. It's my wife's favorite gun to shoot when we go to the range. We've put 150 to 200 rounds through it several times in the last couple of months. Not a problem. Mark
