9MM Hollowpoints: Not impressive

Winchester 127gr.+P+, I carry these in my Glock 19, an impressive feel on firing, no loss of control though.

A very accurate round. I think with the overall weight of the pistol (not too heavy) making for a rapid presentation, is a big plus.

The fact you have 16 of these potent cartridges ready to go, is good, yes?

I personally do not feel under gunned, and that's what it is all about, your confidence, is it not?
 
The 45 auto rounds just look ridiculously big.

And thinking that the mass of the bullet is twice that of a 9mm,I would think that being hit with a 45 round would almost knock a bad guy off his feet.

I know that's not true but from those rounds it would seem that way to me.

I mean the expended bullet is three quarters of an inch around and still weighs 230 grains!

I've been lucky so far, never had to shoot a people; but the
230 gr. .45" dia. slug with its blunt nose would have a better chance of breaking straight thru forearm and rib bones than would the 115 gr. .35" dia. slug with its relatively pointy nose with more propensity to deflect. (IWT)
 
I prefer the Buffalo Bore 124 grain +P+ at 1300 fps!

I prefer the Buffalo Bore 124 grain Gold Dot bullet that they load to 1300 fps in their +P+ loading!!:D

The Gold Dot is the best bullet out there and loaded to that power it's like a 357 Sig.
 
Not impressive looking at least . I now see why they use .45 or .40 for the glamor shots on websites. And I wondered why the ones in the plastic cases (federal?) were in cardboard for 9mm.


The numbers look good, and a few water jugs will probably impress me, but I think I was spoiled from the bigger ashtrays . I think I've tried every caliber except 9mm, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

By all means, stick with whatever "impresses" you, if that helps get you through the night. Don't let the fact that 9mm has a long record of lethality break through to your consciousness in any way.

My advice: carry a Desert Eagle. Impressive! ;)

I shoot so-called 'self-defense' rounds in both my 9mm and 45-cal. handguns. But, when dress, weather, season, etc. calls for me to carry the .380 ACP for self-defense, I almost always lean toward simple and reliable FMJ ammo, since I want penetration more than anything if I have to down a Bad Guy. Who cares how big a hole I carve out of the BG's beer belly fat if my round doesn't pass through it with enough energy to reach vital organs?
 
Wow, this is still going on :rolleyes: I can't beleive people bash the 9mm. With good loadings it's just as potent as other standard pistol calibers.

Brit, I too love those 127 grainers. Very accurate and the recoil isn't bad at all.

Harry, what pressure is the 124gr. +P+ Buffalo Bore round loaded to? That's gotta be pretty toasty :eek: I know the Winchester 127gr. load is 40,000psi which is a 127gr. at 1250fps.

One round left of center, he was charging me with a knife trashed the heart through the lower lobe of the lung stopped just before exiting .612 on the micrometer go to http://www.armsmaster.net-a.googlepages.com then scroll down to Negrete for the story he took about 1-2 steps after being hit. DOA My dad was lodge brothers with the deputy coroner and at lodge he told my dad here your kid might want this.

I know it says that IA cleared you, but did the dead guy's family raise much of a stink?

If .07 inches saves your bacon, then why wouldn't you want it?

Sorry, I understand why people would want to carry a 9mm (there no such thing as "less dead"), but all things given, I would want to kill a group of bad guys with a gun that starts a hole size that the 9mm has the potential to reach.

I am not usually one to randomly quote "sayings", but it it true the the 9mm could expand while the .45 doesn't shrink.

Then where's your choice stack up?

At that point you might as well spill the guts of a sheep and try to divine the caliber question in the entrails.

Can we agree every size works? And fails?

Can we agree placement matters most?

Can we agree the founding principles of IPSC are true ("Accuracy, Power, Speed")?

Can we agree no one wishes to be shot with any bullet of any caliber?

If not, we need further study.
