3 must own handguns?

1. A quality 22 revolver (older S&W 17, 18, etc. or Ruger Super Single Six) or auto pistol (Ruger or Browning)

2. An older S&W 357 magnum revolver (66, 686) - no lock, no MIM, no 2 piece barrel

3. A Glock 19 or 1911 depending on your preference

I can't think of too many things you couldn't do with this battery of arms...

In my humble opinon.

1. A quality 22 of some sort, with big easy to see sights. Cheap trigger time, fundamentals, accurate. Say a Ruger Single Six/Ten for revolver buffs, one of the Ruger Mark somethings in semi auto flavor. My choices for both, Ruger Single Six and Smith and Wesson 422.

2. A medium sized mid-bore of some sort. Less offensive trigger time, reasonably powerful and handy. Say a 3-4 inch barreled 38/357 or mid sized 9mm. My choices here, Smith and Wesson Model 19 and Glock 19

3. A shortish barreled large bore. Something long enough to shoot easily, yet not something that resembles a buntline. Powerful enough for serious business, but not a wrist breaker. In this category, I think the revolver shines due to the multiple power levels. From mouse fart loads to bear busters. For me, a 4 inch 629 will handle anything that needs handlin, while being handy enough to tote around. Course I'm a big guy and spend most of my time in the boontoolies. When I still owned a Glock 20, I used that a ton. Heavy lead Double Taps mostly, blazers to plink.

I have a similar thought.
1) .22LR target or plinker.
2) CCL capable pistol. Carry or deep conceal depending on your preference.
3) full size pistol (ideally the big brother of the CCL pistol) for home offense and of course the Zombie Olympics (Armeggedon for others, but in Texas its a pastime).

Season to taste. My personal ideal for the above 3 are
1) S&W model 41 or Browning target.
2) STI eclipse or S&W M&P Carry with proper trigger action.
3) STI full size or full size S&W M&P with proper trigger action.

A .22 caliber semi or revolver

A 1911 just because

a polymer striker pistol like a glock or M&P.

Honorable mention: Ruger .357 mag

1.) Beretta 92FS, I wouldn't trade mine for anything.
2.) .22 Plinking gun, maybe the Ruger Mark III or a Browning Buckmark.
3.) Quality 1911 replica. Maybe a Springfield Mil-Spec.

Interestingly I have two of those three and agree. :)

Good to know I'm not too far off the reservation.

1) Glock 19 or 17: Glocks and cockroaches will be the only thing left in the apocalypse
2) S&W 642: Nothing carries better. They just go anywhere.
3) Ruger magnum-caliber revolver: Portable artillery suitable for hunting in case this is all you've got.
3a) 1911: Res ipsa loquitur

I wiill chime in with my thoughts

1) SA .22 LR Revolver
2) 9mm semi auto I w ould go with something with a decocker
3) Center fire revolver in .39 special

Three Hi-Points......ehhehehe

No, A Magnum revolver of your choice
An Auto 9mm
And a .22 revolver or auto.

Period.

1). Glock 19

2). 1911 in a 45ACP - Springfield (NM), Colt, Kimber, or Wilson.

3). Ruger 357 Magnum revolver or a 22LR Ruger Mark II Target

all of my guns I own are either 45/70 Govt, 357 magnum, 17HMR or 12ga. I like to keep my ammunition simple.

My top three must own hand guns are a CCW, a semiautomatic and a large caliber hunting hand gun.

so these are my picks:

1. CCW, S&W 640 (357 magnum)
2. Semiautomatic, Coonan Classic (not a true 1911 but it is a 357 magnum)
3. Hunting, BFR (45/70 Govt revolver)

357 mag revolver (686 or GP100)
9mm semi (Glock, Sig, Beretta)
.22lr semi (MkII, Buckmark, S&W)

only add on/replacement is a 1911 45acp (you must have owned one at one time or another if you have the above list)

Instead of must-have, I rather call it the three favorites serving different purposes:
