Your Favorite Wheelgun

Any Smith&Wesson N frame in a decent caliber, As my wife says "Hard Ball has never seen an N frame Smith&Wesson he didn't like!"

Make mine a Python!

Howdy,

This is my first post; I'm a new member as of today. My first gun was a Ruger GP 100 4-inch barrel, blued finish. I still shoot it well, but I'm terribly fond of Colt Pythons, any length or finish.
Pythons are smoooth and accurate. They've got a certain..mystique. Perhaps it's the vent ribbed barrel? If I were robbing a bank and a cop produced a blued Python and shouted: "Stop! I got one of these!" I'd turn..gulp and reply: "Don't shoot mister, Pythons are LETHAL". LOL
I must add a second favorite; a "workng man's revolver" if you will. The GP 100 was my first and still my most reliable gun. I felt a bit comforted having it as my riding partner on some muggy nights driving in New Orleans several years ago. Loaded with .38+ P's. They're rugged, affordable and arguably a better value than the Python. Sort of like comparing a Toyota Corolla to a Jag, but there it is!
Respectfully,
Larry C. :)

My favorites are the big N-Frame S&W's.

1. Model 58, 4" .41 Mag, blue.
2. Model 25 1955 Target Model, 6.5", .45 ACP, blue
3. Model 57, 4" .41 Mag, blue

The model 58 was about as close to a perfect duty gun as I've ever seen. Plenty of power, pointed quick and enough mass to absorb the recoil. The 1955 Target .45 is massive, shoots a formidable round and recoil is about like a .38 wadcutter.

.44 magnum.

Just got my new favorite...

Ruger Blackhawk .357 magnum 6" w/ 9mm conversion cylinder.
Next to that, my joyous Taurus 608SS4. (heavy, 8shots, and stainless)
After that, my S&W Model 19. Very classic, very "original" magnum

I have this thing for .357s...they are fast, powerful, and flexible.
From 110gr to 180gr (or even 200gr if you can find them) for bullets and speeds ranging from 700fps-1900fps. (from a rifle)

Lead, plated, jacketed....its all available.

Brass is cheap, loading dies are plentiful, and ITS STILL A MAGNUM!!!

I agree with Ramcharger on this one.
My 4" S&W Model 19 feels right in every way and is easy to hit with.
I keep a Hogue Monogrip on mine.

Like you, the Official Police

The first real handgun I every bought was the Colt Official Police .38. It was made in 1944. Since I bought it 2 years ago, I've had it repaired and reblued. It is accurate and the action is just about as smooth as a Python.

It is a classic .38 double action revolver that police and law enforcement used for well over 100 years. It has more of a story to tell with it's long history than the modern Glock 19 or 9mm Berretta. Has a nice feel and plane jane look to it unlike modern revolvers with nickle plate, stainless steel, rubber grips and shrouds and ribs along the barrel. Makes a good shooter and even, with a hip holster or shoulder holster a good concealed carry handgun. I carry it over my 1911 .45 auto just about every day.

I like this gun so much, that I even found and bought another one in the later model (with the slanted sight and long ejector rod cap) as an extra.

Hence my screename Doug.38PR (Police Revolver)

Though I usually carry it as a concealed handgun, I bought a smaller 431PD for summer carry whenever it is too hot to wear a sportcoat or blazer.
