Why do you love revolvers?

With a single action revolver you can make a box of fifty last longer and have more fun/bang per buck.

To quote the Raisuli from the excellent movie "The Wind and the Lion":

"The Europeans have guns that fire many times promiscuously and rend the Earth. There is no honor in this..."

About the only things that havn't been said:
grips can be changed to dramatically adjust to the shooter or sport.

I think they carry better. The weight is better distributed. Rounded surfaces seem to blend better with my round body :)

You can use the cheapest filthiest ammo and it will still go bang everytime.
Blazer, Magnatech, whatever.

Also aluminum or steel cases, no problem.

when i look at semi's its simply me seeing bang bang bang. when i look at revolver I'm thinking and looking at beauty. I believe there's an odd sort of romance attached to wheelguns, for me anyway.

No jam, no misfires.
Well, semi-autos are pretty reliable now-a-days if you feed them ammo they like. But,... but when it does happen you have have to use the other hand to clear it. A misfire (rare) in a revolver is handled by cocking and pulling the trigger again ... all with just one hand.

My goal is not to see how fast I can push bullets nor the quantity of bullets I put down range. My goal is to find good loads that put the bullet on target. From mild loads to heavy loads. With a revolver you are not stuck with a 'set' range of loads (ie, load to light and pistol won't cycle, to heavy and you beat up your slide). Also, using a revolver, your cases never hit the ground after firing. Pull 'em out one at a time and put back into ammo box. Nice and 'simple'. I think a lot of shooters spend more time bent over searching for their brass than time shooting! Revolvers are a bit safer too. Dropping the magazine from a semi-auto doesn't mean the pistol is unloaded. Spinning the cylinder and a revolver is 'obviously' unloaded. Then, there is two handed operation vs. one. Try loading a magazine single handed, or work the slide to load that first round.... A revolver can be loaded with one hand. Of course you could argue to just have a dozen magazines ready to go and as long as you have use of apposing arm quite fast to reload.... Just some observations.

Now, why do I like them? Because I do. I like the o' Single Action over the Double action too. Just suits my personality. I can more relate to the 1800s era than the 'make my day' era. The S&W revolvers for example just don't 'look' right. Probably very functional, but no appeal. The 'only' semi-auto that has any 'slight' appeal is the 1911 only because it is a .45 and its long history. What more can I say?

Simple, reliable, no mag to loose or damage, and no safety to forget to take off safe if a situation arises. Goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

I have a Colt buntline scout .22 that has an extra mag cylinder.
I can shoot Colibris in the house (whenever the new phone books arrive that have a law firm picture on the back!). I can shoot CB, short, long, long rifle, hyper velocity, those crazy Aguila 60 grain SSS. With the mag cylinder I can shoot .22 WMR and .22 Magnum.

Talk about a great survival gun.

Why do you love revolvers?

Why is there air?

Not that I live eat and "breath" revolvers, I love all handguns. All gun's, boats, motorcycles, cars, cigars, women, and good whiskies. But wait, there's more.........:D

I grew up reading Elmer Keith's articles & books (good stuff!) and Colt & Smith&Wesson revolvers successfuly protected my hide the first half of my career. While I will never go back to carrying a revolver on duty, I will always own a couple for use in my personal life. Besides, like an earlier poster wrote "nothing handles the snake shot loads like a revolver".

I like simple things ( even though I like semis too ). I like the looks as well as the pull trigger bang effect. The fact that they are tried and proven is an added plus.

I like them because you can keep them fully loaded, and then empty them for cleaning or dry firing without worrying about bullet setback. Thats just one reason.:D
