Why do you love revolvers?

I don't know really. Probably the same reasons I like classic side x side double barrel shotguns. There's a certain je ne sais quoi about them that appeals to me.
All the practical advantages are really just excuses to own one.

As Skeeter Skelton once said, "Handloading for the self feeding pistil is a pain in the neck." Plus automatics can be too finicky about their ammunition and their magazines.

Why revolvers ?? Because no auto ever looked this good----and let's talk about pointability----this one's in 45LC------John

I prefer tall and thin to short and fat... of course I am talking about bullets.;)

Bottom feeders (automatics) tend to prefer short fat rounds.

As a reloader, I simply do not like walking the range hunched over picking up brass. I also like the fact that revolvers can be loaded to MUCH higher pressure than semi-auto's when it comes to hunting rounds.

And this

No FTFs

No FTEs

No stovepipes

When I started shooting handguns it was about speed and defensive use so I got autos with big magazines. Now it's about precision and not having to pick up my brass. I also trust carrying my revolvers afield because I don't carry autos with loaded chambers. For field use 6 shots at a time is plenty. It would be rare to empty a revolver in a field situation. rc

Revolvers? "Why"...?

Because Raquel Welch wasn't packing a semi-auto pistol when she played Hannie Caulder...:D

No FTF

No FTE

No Stovepipe

AND

No safety....to worry about for CCW

If you to get an FTF....you pull the trigger to a fresh chamber.

As far as simple? only in use.

Making them is an art.

I don't love them yet, but I'm developing a bit of a crush on them lately.
A few shooting buddies have older style single actions, a Navy Arms Schofield and a Uberti 1873 replica. Along with my Ruger GP100 and 1860 Colt replica they have been the most fun at the range lately.

When you grew up in a time when 75% of movies and tv shows were westerns, the good guys wore six-guns. In crime movies the cops had snub-nose 38s and the bad guys seemed to have semis. In the tv series opening scene, even the speeding bullet that superman was faster than came from a revolver. Therefore handgun=revolver. The other reason I like revolvers is that they are near idiot-proof, and me being an idiot and all...

I was introduced to handguns via semi-autos. Specifically, the M9 (in the Corps) and the 1911 (first handgun I bought). I bought a myriad of semi's since then.

Now, I still have more semi's than revolvers. I would have to call myself a revolver man, though. If I knew I was going to be in a shoot-out with several folks, of course a semi would make more sense. Just all-around SD, hunting, woods, around the house, all around gun? Revolver hands down. I can carry a .357 snubbie, pack it with .38+P, and rock on down the road prepared for most anything. I always have the option of changing ammo for different situations. Which leads me to the real reason why I have become a revolver guy... they are just more versatile. Yeah, you can't fire 15 rounds without reloading and the reload is slower... but that's the only trick the semi has on the revolver.

Basically put: If I'm going to war or if I'm on duty, give me a semi. Every other time? I'll take a revolver.

I have both 3 semis, and 2 revolvers but I can say that I really take pride in my revolvers, semis are good tools and are fun but the last 2 guns I would sell are my revolvers. When I pull out my engraved .357 or my 500 out at the range everyone is asking questions, I just don't think you'd get that with semis. Also I love the BOOM from a magnum revolver, haven't heard or felt anything close from a semi auto.

Revolvers, I Carried them for many years as a LEO and because they never failed me I have confidence in them. I own six revolvers and only one semi. Nothing wrong with the Semi just like revolvers better.

Practical Reasons
Simplicity
Reliability
Versatility of rounds
Don't have to chase brass
You can store them loaded forever without worrying about spring compression.

There is also
Something manly about holding a revolver
Pulling the trigger slowly waiting for that click, then bang!
The fact that I like cowboy movies may have something to do with it.

All the aformentioned attributes plus two more; Josey Wales and his collection of Colts and Dirty Harry with his Model 29 Smith. Gotta' love those wheel guns!
