Why do people dislike glock?

My first gun was a G17 back in ´94. I wanted something "modern", something with a future
and from the future. Polymer guns we´re
supposed to be "IT".

My choices where i live were simple, G17 or
endless wait. Just couln´t wait.

I have no complaints but since then i have got
4 HKs and absolutely forgotten about my dust
gathering Glock. Can´t get rid of it, first love.

But if i have one thing to say is that i have
forever in my mind that "click" the gun does
every once in a while instead of going BANG!
My HK´s don´t go "click" they just go BANG!

NB

I think Glocks represent modern times, like new
cars they function but produce no feeling when
viewed.
Like the modern police all the same (one gun
fits all), or the uni-sex gun neither male or
female,again modern times.

I guess I compare the Glock to an earring on
a boy/man and ask why.??

You guessed it I don't like Glocks but guys
buy them if you like, got to keep the economy
going.
:D

you don't fall into one of those categories do you?

The haters and worshippers may define the arguments.
But most should be able to admit that any medium priced firearm of your choice including the glock leaves the individual armed with a durable and generally accurate weapon. Everything else is just individual preference.

denfoote,

Glocks point high for me.

Never touched a Luger in my life. If Glocks point naturally for you and Lugers have the same grip angle, I'd guess they point about the same. You just can't please everybody (which is why there are lots of different brands and styles to choose from). My hands aren't going to change anytime soon.

Mithirium,
Those who hate glocks are as annoying as those who worship them.
So far I haven't seen anyone say they "hate" Glocks in this thread. A lot of people who don't care for them for various tangible reasons, which is perfectly OK.

9X45,
What other handgun can you buy for that price that will go over 300,000 rounds?
The round counts just get higher and higher, don't they? How many Glocks do you own that have fired 300,000 rounds?

Allegedly, there's one (1) in Glock, Inc.'s hands that has accomplished this feat on the original frame, slide, and barrel.

This has as much relevance to my, or anyone else's, needs in a gun as the knowledge that Saab drove a couple of 9000 Turbos around the oval at Talladega flat out for some 48 or 72 hours...

Interesting factoid, but the odds of me driving 140+ mph for 3 days straight while continuously shooting 300,000 rounds of ammo are precisely zero. ;)

Shake,
I agree nobody in this thread has cummunicated viceral hatred in their dislike of glocks. Nearly all the reasons fostered for their non preference are completely acceptible. I meant simply to suggest that I find non-sensical "glock hatred" as rediculous as the "no compromise glock is the only answer" type. I have detected these types of feeling in other threads and was eluding to those of which no doubt some of us have come accross.

Tamara,

I don't dispute the fact that its been done, just question the relevance to individual gun owners (as you seem to).

Mithirium,
You are correct.

Like all guns, Glocks have advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages include:

- moderately priced
- reliable
- simple manual of arms
- high capacity

The disadvantages include:

- grip is very block and just too big for many. My Glock 17 is just a touch too big for my hand. The blockiness makes it uncomfortable.
- the trigger. Yuch. I HATE that "sproing" when the striker finally trips. As a result, I'm not very accurate with the gun. Give me a M1911 trigger anytime...
- the stock sights aren't great.
- I find the mag release hard to operate

I'm a whole lot faster and more accurate with an M1911. Does that mean I hate Glocks? No, my first gun was a Glock and I own two. But I prefer other guns.

M1911

Disklike Glock? I don't even know him! ;-)

As for the line of Glock firearms, liking or disliking them is just a matter of personal preferance. Reliability isn't a problem with them, but it isn't a problem with others either. Beauty is subjective, and it's really not much of a consideration in selecting a handgun. Utility is the key, and that's also a matter of personal preference.

If Glock decides that models appealing to those who aren't attracted to their current line would sell at a profit, they would make them.

I prefer to shoot my 1911's and Ruger Vaquero but I carry a Glock 27 because it's a totally reliable tool.

Took a 3 day "concealed weapons combat course" a few weeks ago. Most carried 1911's with a few revolvers and a Browning Hi-Power for variety. My 27 and a 19 were the only Glocks. After several hundred rounds only the Glocks and one STI 1911 were trouble free (the revolvers suffered operator induced reloading glitches).

Several were interested enough in my mini Glock to ask to try it. Glad I brought lots of ammo as I was also the only one shooting 40 cal.

I have one friend from here in TFL and he dislikes a Glock very much. Three weeks ago, he called me and he said he bought one compact size.

Early this morning, he called me again and said he won an IDPA match yesterday. He is s happy with his glock for it gives him a trophy.

From the above, when he told me he bought a glock I did not comment negatively, and in his second news to me about his trophy, I have congratulated him. It just reminded me of many things I read on the board, that what fits to your hand and your likes, then follow it.

And last, I am a 1911 loyalist but I am evaluating the glock if it is worth of buying one. For Collection yes, but for side arm, I think I won't invest on it.

Grip and striker could be improved.

Mind you I like Glocks. The more you shoot, the better they work.

But I dislike the fact that a very, very good firearm could be made near perfect if it had

1. Restrike capability

2. Visible striker

3. Smoother trigger pull (less sproingy... more like a p7)

4. Grip with adjustable backstrap.

Wait, I guess I've sort of described a Walther p99. Maybe I should try one.

Yo

Those who hate glocks are as annoying as those who worship them.

I agree 110%

It's not Glocks I hate, its the horde of religious fanatics that worship at the altar of Glock that I can't stand

Despite what the denizens of Gaston Glock seem to think, there are many firearms out there of equal (and a few better) quality and utility.

That said, I'm still sure I'll be owning one someday :D

I'll just bet that the other dealer in the area are eating this clowns lunch, when it comes to selling guns. You can't sell what you don't have.

Why not Glock?

I agree with many of the previous posters. I owned 1911's, switched to Glocks, switched to Sigs and revolvers, went back to Glocks. now have switched to CZ's and Kahrs. I find it difficult to shoot a Glock accurately. I can shoot all the others accurately. I pull my shots to the left with the Glock. Is that the fault of the Glock? Heck no, it just doesn't work for me. My next purchases of handguns will be CZ, and perhaps the Walther P99. No hatred of Glock, just so many choices of good guns, pick the ones that work for you.

I've never owned or even fired a Glock. I happened by my gun store today for other reasons and decided to again give Glocks a look because I was decidedly neutral about them. They don't "point" right or consistently for me. Obviously, I don't grip them the same way every time or pointing would be consistent. Regardless, they never pointed to the "right" place, and that would affect accuracy.

Since I wouldn't own a pistol that doesn't point right for me, I doubt that I would ever get a Glock. I don't dislike them, but I wouldn't have one....

Mithirium,

Not sure exactly how to answer your question. In any case, my preferences in self-defense handguns does not include Glocks, rather SIG's.

My point is that the entire contention, "Why Glocks are better than anything else" or "Glock versus ______" is pointless at best.

Declare the merits seen regarding a particular arm, then move on. I see far too many Glock owners singing praises that I have little countenance for. They have their niche, certainly, but SIG's work best for me. Glocks work best for someone else. Life goes on.

My "profound" statement was a compliment. You said it better than I could have.

Shoot what you like. For a long time (up until recently) I didn't dig AR-15's, until I shot one (NON USGI-issued, I should add).
That doesn't mean it's a lousy gun. Someone in an earlier reply
said to "vote with your wallet", and I agree. If you like your
Glock, H&K, SIG, S&W, Shootzalot, then go with it.

For the record, the first time I ever shot a Glock (19), it jammed up on me twice in a row; First one was a stovepipe, and the second one was a failure to feed. Had me wondering, "what the he11 is the big deal about this thing?". Cleared them both, and never had a choke again. Runs great, but I still don't really want to buy another one.
