Why do people dislike glock?

Alternatives?

Please bear with me, I'm new to this stuff. (Yes, another 9/11 newbie.)

I'm still waiting on NJ to issue me a piece of paper that says they trust me with firearms. When that happens, I think I'll be in for two pistols: probably a G21 for home and a 9mm for practice.

I was originally planning on a G19, but discovered (a) they don't like to shoot lead, and (b) FMJ ammo is kind of expensive. So, with that in mind, what is the most reliable semiauto that shoots lead?

Thanks,
- pdmoderator.

P.S. Don't blame me; I DID vote for Schundler!

Further revelations

And yea, thou shalt find infidels who hath a pall of darkness cast over them, that they not see. And these shalt be, in their delusion, satisifed with the lesser handguns that they possesseth, and so shalt thou heapeth scorn and contempt upon them in measure unfathomable, because it is what they deserveth for their folly. And thou shalt point out to them that steel rusteth, but polymer is forever, that they may know no peace.

Dear Mr. PDModerator:

1. You can shoot lead in a Glock, it's just not recommended. If you really want to, though, go ahead - as long as you CAREFULLy remove the lead from the barrel after each shooting session. Can't imagine why you would want to though (see below).

2. Who told you 9mm FMJ ammo is expensive ?? You can buy factory, new FMJ and TMJ ammo from Natchez Shooters Supply for $4.85 per box of 50. Unless you shoot a heck of a lot, it's hardly worth reloading.

3. Who says you can't reload with jacketed ammo ?? Shooting jacketed ammo sure makes cleaning the barrel a lot easier.

4. If you REALLY want to reload and shoot lead in a Glock, the best option is to buy an after market barrel (about $80). Use it for reloads and use your factory barrel for CCW (swapping barrels takes about 15 seconds with a Glock, without any tools).

5. Keep in mind that if you shoot factory ammo only, Glock will fix any problem free of charge for the life of the pistol.

Glock grip angle

The one and only thing I hate about Glocks is the grip angle. It doesn't allow me to point the pistol very naturally (too high).

For all of you that do not like Glock's grip angle. What are your thoughts on the Luger. Glocks have pretty close to the same grip angle and the luger is famous for being the most naturally pointing gun in the universe!!! I own both and have found this to be true.

Who told me 9mm ammo is expensive?

Dear Mr. Dawg23:

Uh, the guy who saw me coming? :o

Seriously, the last time I had an opportunity to shoot, I bought Speer Lawman. The price was about the same as it is on Natchez.

As far as reloading jacketed ammo: Like I said, I'm new at this.

I read that thread on the other board. Allow me to go on record as saying that I have had my Glock 17 jam. More than once. Was it the gun ? the ammo ? the mag ? me ? I don't remember what I decided at the time. I have had every autoloading gun I ever owned (probably at least 50) jam at one time or another. Some more, some less, so what ? That doesn't mean to me that a gun is a peice of junk. All machines fail, all machines need maintainance, parts wear out, lubrication vanishes........ We need to face that fact if we want to be realistic. I personally wouldn't consider any gun collection serious that didn't contain at least one Glock.
Note that I often will fire an individual gun for 500 rounds between cleanings. No gun I ever did this with ran well when finished including revolvers. I know someone will tell me about some torture test done by some special ops group that fired millions of rounds without a failure; all I can say is that they are luckier than I.

Why don't I like 'em??

Well I'm not really against them there a good design and they must be doing something right to have all those contracts . For me they dont fit well in my hand, and I've not found that I shoot them well. I definatley dont like the looks.

The only thing that bothers me about them is every #%$! damn
glock owner insisting that your poorly armed with anything else.:barf:

I used to hate Glocks. One day my daughter looked at me and told me how uncool I was expressing my Glock opinion to her. The next week I was in the local gun shop looking at the ugly things and bought a 23.

Trigger took some getting used to. That was my only problem (with the Glock). Trust me, they grow on you.

glock dislike

I don't dislike Glocks - I prefer other options. I have shot three Glocks and they just didn't feel right but I assume there has got to be some reason that so many people own and love their Glocks. Glock pistols are easy to take apart and clean. They are light and have a great sight set-up. For some unknown reason, they just don't feel right in my hand. I am also an novice and have been told that you have to be good and willing to practice to get efficiant with a Glock.

I think the real problem is the lack of real evidence. Everyone makes decisions based on other peoples experiance and opinions and it is often difficult to tell the difference.

I met a smith that refused to sell or work on Kimbers because some of his friends/vendors were damaged by Kimber filing for bankrupcy. It took me half an hour to get him to admit his problem with them was business related, not performance.

To PDmoderator:

Hey, if you're a fellow NJ resident, and are interested in some side-by-side comparisons, let me know. We can head down to my range. They rent everything there from SIG to Glock to Kimber to H&K, and I have my P99 stored there, too... until the state issues me MY Firearms ID card!

It's always a good idea to shoot different guns, before making a final decision.

Regards,
RK

Because Glocks run and run and run, like the Energizer Bunny, and they are cheap at $500! Come on... What other handgun can you buy for that price that will go over 300,000 rounds? What's a life worth? All a handgun has to do is go bang each time, every time.... Beyond that, good sights and a reasonable trigger are a plus

I like Glocks, I like Desert Eagles, I like Sigs, I like almost all of them. Who cares what somebody else dislikes? Vote with your wallet. Buy and shoot what you want. I'm just very greatful, and I hope you all are too, that we in this country have a very wide selection to pick from. I don't know about you, but I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go into the local gun store. For $5 and the cost of the ammo, I can shoot any of about 50 guns on his "loan out" list, heck of a deal.

Plenty of handguns go bang everytime you pull the trigger AND offer you nice sights and trigger. Why not have it all....

This thread is typical of the Glock versus every other semi-auto ever made threads.

First I have to agree with many, if I owned a gun shop I would try to stock just about every quality brand. I too like to "finger" my guns before purchase. And I have lots of guns that are not Glocks.

But Glocks are dependable weapons and I have a G19 and G17 that are totally reliable, indestructable, accurate, and although not beautiful, are totally functional under almost all conditions.

I have said this before, but I will say it again. If I had to choose one handgun, it would be a G19. It fits my hand, has never ever failed me, it is concealable, it fires 15 rounds of the most common handgun caliber in the world, and it is proven combat accurate.

It just don't get much better than that.

Let's see...
Glocks are ugly.
The finger grooves on the ones small enough to carry are simply annoying.
They are plain, no real differences in between the basic looks of any of the models.
No manual safety on a gun with a 5.5# trigger.

With that said, My Glock 17 will be here next week.

When Glocks first came out i was in love with them. Ofcource I was 7 in '85 and enamored with the techno looks and space age technology. <yes I was into guns at 7> When they started getting so incredibly popular in the 90's I kinda fell out with Glock's just because of their rabid popularity. I still liked 'em, but got tired of hearing about them. I must admit to likeing unique, overlooked, and sometimes odd-ball stuff that you dont hear about all the time. This is why I'll never own a .270:) and why I was shooting a .300 win mag when most hunting club guys frowned on it as the next step down from a .50 BMG. THen I discovered the 10mm cartridge. I was in love from the first time I read the ballistics charts. By the time it was feasable to add a 10mm to my collection, the Glock 20 was my only viable option. I bit the bullet and bought a peice of glorified black tuperware with a nail punch on top. Now I have an odd-ball Glock and have never been happier. I can see how some folks can have a disslike for the Glock, but you cant deny that they work, and work VERY well. Since owning one I have developed a renewed lust for the Glock looks, but it looks less techno and more simply-elegant to me now. An unblemished Glock in stock trim seems to me like a well starched and pressed tux...simple and classy.
